Managerial position

He has shown enough, until the start of 2020 at any rate, to get a shot at getting us back up next season... but if we get to November next season, stuck in mid table Championship or lower, with negative performances, deluded post match interviews and the sort of rambling pre match press conferences that would make Adkins or Calos blush.. well then his time is up... Huge six months for him in my opinion.

The problem is the talent pool of managers in this country you would be confident could do a better job on our resources is minuscule.

Getting a new manager in now makes no sense since United are down. CW should be given a crack next season.

I want it now! Sack him like we did Warnock! Get Eddie Howe and give him a 112 million wage budget, that'll work!
“I want it now”. What a straw man. We’ve lost 20 out of 25 league games. Thats the sign of a very poor team and manager. Wanting him to stay is the weird position to take at this point.

He has signed poor players and the good ones from last season are performing badly. Once again that was a miserable performance. And tactically inept to boot.

How long are you prepared to let this death March go in? Do we have to watch him fritter away what little money we have on more poor players and start like Huddersfield did before you will be seeking a change? Or are you content with a drop to the third tier?

I was clutching at the straw of him getting his mojo back but performances like that have changed my view. He doesn’t care how bad it gets. He’s mailing it in. I want him gone.

That argument would make sense if he'd got the job in the Prem. He hasn't - so it doesn't. I don't accept that we've signed only poor players either; quite the contrary.

Keep Wilder and see where we’re at in Jan 22.

He deserves a crack at trying to get us back up.

It’s fucking rotten at the minute though.

Quite the contrary. None of last summers signings are PL standard. Bogle is closest. Of course, he’s hardly played because reasons.

And if you think they will be good for the Championship:

1. That remains to be seen.
2. That was not what they should have been recruited for.

Managers can lose it just like players: Wilder has lost it. Even some of his most ardent defenders on here are furious with him at this point.

We've bought players for the present and the future, not just for the now. We can't afford them. I couldn't give a monkeys what those that have turned think, I make my own mind up. The body of evidence that he's lost is is a hell of a lot shorter than the evidence that he has it? Who do you think should replace him?

Once again I am staggered by the assertion that we could not have got anyone better than the collection of Championship and League One standard players we have collected since Summer 2019 with over 100 million pounds. Other clubs have. And don’t give me that crap about wages. There must be better players from, say, Eastern Europe than Brewster or Lowe who will play for less than we pay them. Other clubs do it.

There is a body of evidence that he had it, not that he has it now.

Who should replace him? God knows. Someone who won’t play this formation with this group of players would be a good start.

I want him to stay, but he really needs to come out with a proper strategy for the future now, otherwise I'll lose my patience. As Chris used to say, "there's no room for sentiment".

I'd start playing like how we are going to do so in the Championship next season (i'm assuming/hoping it won't be like we already are); weather that's a change in formation, or reverting back to to the 3-4-1-2 style of before. Lose any worries about getting spanked 6-0 (does it really matter if lose by 1,2,3 or 4...?) and go at games like we will hope to do in the league below.

Secondly, where possible, play the side that are likely to be here next season. There's no value in playing someone like Lundstram any more. If we really are struggling with numbers, which we are in some areas, then fair enough.

Finally, have a proper plan for playing some of the kids. Many have been on the bench, but with the exception of Hackford, who came on and nearly scored with his only touch (never to be seen again), they've not had a chance. Focus on 3 out that we really think can make it and give them 15/20 minutes here and there. Again, what have we got to lose now - we are down.

Why?

West Brom changed managers, didn't do them any favours. Infact, it rarely helps changing manager when in the bottom 3 historically. The players need to take responsibility, they're the ones that play the games.
We’re not trying to stay up! That ship has long since sailed, we’re trying to build for the next attempt to stay in the PL

That's a nice set of baseless assertions you've got there but not many solutions. Wages are the key component of signing any player and any major critique of our recruitment would have the club strategy on that front and center as that's hat makes us unique at this level. Howe seems to be the man on here for the Wilder out brigade. You've done well to avoid that particular rabbit hole. That's the key question you need an answer for though; I'm yet to hear a plausible solution.

I suspect that if CWAK were offered a pay-off they may snatch your hand off.

I wouldn’t appoint Howe.

Im not sure I’d appoint a British manager at all actually.

Again, though, how long has he got in your eyes if we continue to play this poorly?

Are we going to get a better manager at Champ level? No way near.

If we make 2-3 midfield additions we will be right up there next year.

Again, that remains to be seen.

Meanwhile in the here and now we are historically awful.

Seen loafs of bread with more personality than Howe.

I’d look at the Barnsley manager if we made a change, but CW is best man for us in the Championship.
