Here's a different angle on this...maybe its us who want him gone and we are trying to put him in the shop window and get good.money for him.

I'd.be very.surprised if Wilder has anything to spend this summer other than what he raises in the market and he would provide a big sum of.money to reinvest.

Unless he's has a relegation clause we dont have to sell anyone...look at Norwich with Cantwell and Beundia !!!

I'm sure way back when CW said something like they had to agree to a clause they didnt want to or they wouldnt have got him or words to that affect so I wouldnt be surprised if its a relegation release clause. He might not want to leave, SUFC have only said it in so many words but he probably definitely has the option and he will probably be gone and do wonderfully well elsewhere.

What worries me is what price he will go for thats already probably in the clause. Hopefully its same money as we got him for.

Suddenly the NHS BLM Berge shirt up on my wall might be going up in value soon. :D

No one is going to sign someone for a lot of money who has had a detached calf muscle until he has proven his fitness , he will be here till next January at least imo

It is anticipated that he will play before the end of the season and even if not they have fitness tests

He's not suited to us at all. Put him in a team who dominate the ball and he will look a far better player. He's come into a truly dreadful side and struggled. People talk about Lingaard after his performance yesterday but does anybody think we'd give him the opportunity to perform like he did yesterday? He'd have been stifled and very soon his confidence levels would mean he'd be unable to impact a game.
So are you saying it's because of poor coaching then? Or that the players we have aren't anywhere near good enough? Not wanting to cause an argument, I happen to think that poor coaching is a big reason why we are so poor.

With the money raised from his sale I would expect us to purchase two top quality midfield players to play alongside fleck, assuming he is still here if not Osborn to replace Fleck.
lundstram and Norwood to hopefully move on
If Norwood moves on as well, we'd need a lot more than two midfielders... we'd only have two left!!

I read that as he has a relegation release clause (probably similar to what we paid) and a club or a number of clubs have already indicated that they will be willing to pay it. Good luck to him, just hope we invest the funds wisely.

I am referring to playing in the team but wholeheartedly acknowledge that we have no midfield players in what is a woefully unbalanced squad, full of strikers, LWB and keepers.

Klopp is an admirer of his. Maybe we can skank Liverpool like they did us for Brewster.
Buy one get one (back) for free

Crazy thing is, some on here feel he isnt good enough for us, and we are better without him, but in the next 1-3 seasons, you will see him at a top team here or abroad, dictating play and say nah, we were better when Osborn and Fleck were in the middle

Berge doesn’t have what it takes to succeed in the English game, he has the heart the size of a pea, he’ll drift off back to Europe....

No it isn’t. He’s had one really good game - Spurs last season - and the rest of the time flatters to deceive. Does some things well, but only in flashes.

And there’s no point in defending him. He wants out - despite being under contract. He has no stomach for a fight.
Many on here would disagree with you. Hence his consistently high match ratings and MOM awards on here.

would agree with you there and would think if berge has got a release clause in his contract if were relegated we would also have a clause stating a minimum starting price and hope that figure is at least 20m if lundstram berge and norwood all go we need a minimum of 3 midfielders to come in

We'd need more than three if we are to persist with the flat 3 in midfield. Whish isn't realistic at all, so Norwood won't be going anywhere.

I think we will make a profit, £30m should be the lowest we accept.
He is our transfer kitty for next season, 30-40m , I'd be happy with that if it means we can sign 2/3 quality players

Why would we get 30m for a midfielder with 2 goals in about 30 appearances, 0? Assists and 1 and a half legs?

As much as I like Berge, he's still got it all to prove

If you were going to get anywhere near that, it'd have to be a structured deal. Based on his time with us, I'm not sure we'd get anywhere near what we paid

We wont even see the funds, they will probably go from the club that sign him straight to Genk......

Yeah if someone offers 5 mill then snap their hands off 😂 it's the blades way

Berge is quality. I believe that and I think he will be a very, very good player.

But based on his time with us so far, there shouldn't be any reason we get any more than we paid for him. Investment wise, we really should keep hold of him for a couple more seasons, if we can.

As I’ve said before, forgetting pedigree, every one of our midfielders have proved themselves in the premier league for longer spells than Berge has.

So perhaps, it’s’s not the other players fault that a high earning, high fee player can’t do what he’s paid for without others being blamed for his shortcomings.

Well, he's not to blame now is he

Classic Sheffield United, if Diego Maradona had arrived here he'd have been a third division player before long, a second division team would have took a punt on him and Barcelona, Napoli and all the glory years would have passed him by and nobody would have ever heard of him.

Supply and demand
If enough clubs want a player of his type we will get more than we paid.
I fully expect there to be a clause in his contract but cannot see it being any less than we paid for him, in the old days under McCabe yes, but not now.

Why are people angry? Of course we're a stepping stone. We were never staying in this division long-term and even if we did it would be on a Burnley level. Top players don't sign for Burnley.

Sander is a highly talented and technically superb footballer. He could easily go on to play for the likes of a top 6 Premier League team. He was never suited to the way we play or the type of player who fits into the system.
Reight Blade!

Hate to say this as it’s Leeds but maybe do what they did and get a manager who desires to play at the top with technically good players.

Feels like we had a great manager in Wilder but he’s turning into a Warnock type.

maybe need to get out of this local,British stuff and think outside the box.

yes they probably will but we would have had to pay the full 22m within 18 months anyway so that money can be spent on 2 new midfielders plus get luke freeman back and get one of the young lads integrated in the squad and we should be ok not sure about norwood his confidence is shot to pieces and might not be able to do it in the championship

I just think we try to play a highly aggressive and intense game that just isn't Berge. We've barely seen him in the Norwood role but even there we have so little possession in most games that anyone who plays there as a deep lying playmaker will struggle.

Slightly off track: assuming Berge was fit, how much of the £90 odd million we spent on Ramsdale, Mcburnie, Brewster, Mousett & Berge do you think we'd recoup if we were to sell?
About half of that I would reckon. Would be a proper indicator as to the effectiveness of our transfer policy.

I know you're obviously a bit of a Sander Berge fanboy (going off the username), you laughed at my suggestion that he would be trying to get his agent to engineer a move away from us - well Wilder has more or less now gone on record and said he wants out.

"He wants to play for a top team." Which we're clearly not & we're about to be relegated.
"Hopefully he still has some games left with the club." This will be based on him returning to fitness this season.
"If he goes it will be with our blessing." Conversations will already have taken place.

Read between the lines pal.
He's more or less said Berge wants to go if / when we're relegated. This was obvious anyway, he didn't want to join us until we'd proven ourselves to him as a midtable Prem club. We're now nowhere near it and he wants out. No hard feelings.

I know you want to believe otherwise, but he's not sticking around for trips to Barnsley & Luton.
A/ At the time I made the statement, that report was not public. I was on our newsnow page before I logged in. Not a peep. B/ He only goes if we get the price we want. The worst case scenario is that he goes out on loan for a season. He plays well, we have a bidding war. If not he comes back to the premier league. ✌️

No, he goes at the minimum price his agent made us put in the contract which we have to accept if we're relegated
