I think people need to focus on our own results first.

I will show some interest in other teams around us if we can get over the 30 mark. Until then what teams are doing means nothing.

Are we going to have more of these threads?

Anyone with any sense knew we were down before Christmas and that the situation was irrecoverable.

We've had several, and each time our relative position has actually worsened in the meantime, but still people cling to the idea that you only have to "believe" and it will happen, like those twats on that twattish game show that twat Noel Edmonds used to host, where "positive thinking" was going to have an impact on whatever number was in the fecking suitcase.

All our team can do is try and get as many points as possible in what remains of this stay in the PL. I don't think we'll finish bottom of the league but the idea of staying up is for children.
Poor post from you, this. I don't know anyone who has claimed that all you have to do is believe and it will happen.
Perhaps you can answer the question I asked above:
What is it about some people that they don't like and don't want to see a fellow fan believing there's still a chance and willing us on?
Because there seems to be a need from quite a few people to slap down anyone who dares think there's still a chance.

I grant you Fulham will be paying top dollar
West Brom are similar to us
Watford and may still have big earners left on their books but any new signings will be on considerably less
Bournemouth have previous for paying stupid wages in the Championship so will probably do so even though they will break FFP rules

So I would say two possibly three clubs may pay more dont know how you get to the conclusion we wont be in the top eight. I dont think wages are particularly a big issue in the Championship when it comes to success its finding the right players to get out of that league and you can do that without breaking the bank look at Brentford they have always been there or threreabouts
We only have to look accross the city to see paying players high wages in the Championship doesnt always work. We have found out to our cost the PL is entirely different

Yes, we've proven it on no end of occasions that money is not the overriding factor in the Championship

Bassetts battlers
Warnocks battlers
Wilders battlers with a bit of style and quality thrown in, albeit cheap at the same time.

i wouldnt slap anybody down for still thinking we can stay up hamburg but it is a bit naive to think we can get out of this realistically we are down no getting away from that fact

Burnley, Brighton and Newcastle are already handing out the big cigars. It makes me so bloody angry that us and the other two muppets clubs at the bottom, have made it so easy for this trio of crap teams.
We have given them a get out of jail card mate that's for sure ,I can't remember a season were 3 teams have looked absolute bankers for relegation just after halfway ..its totally unprecedented....They must be laughing their knackers off

Well, being as this is the point of discussion, I have to question the "fact" thing, because it clearly isn't impossible. If you mean the chances of us surviving are so slim you've given up thinking it's possible, which I'm guessing is what you mean, then fine I can see that. We've entered into the realm of record breaking and unprecedented come-backs if we want to stay in the PL. I don't think anybody doesn't know that.
Which is why it's not necessary to jump all over anyone who expresses any kind of positive thought.
My problem is with those who are so quick to jump in with a "we're down" that it seems almost gleeful. Let people discuss it, what's the problem? Even worse are people who are criticising others for even daring to think it. In a normal season we have threads on "not mathematically safe yet" even when we're in the top half. As supporters we have a reputation for being miserable and pessimistic, which is well deserved. At this moment in time there isn't a need for "we're down, forget it" unless you're talking to someone who hasn't seen the table this year, so I wonder why so many feel a need to say it.

Just had a look at the remaining fixtures.
I do think that we may "have a go" but even looking at a minimal 35 points it's hard to see where 24 points is going to come from. Unlikely we'll win 8. Even if we win 6 (a very big ask seeing as we've only won 3 so far), we then have to draw another 6 (again we've only managed 2 so far), for the maths to add up.
I don't think that believing we're done for makes you not a Blade, a bad Blade, or even "a pig", but it makes you rational and realistic. Football isn't a very rational game (which makes it the great game that it is), which is probably why we have a better chance of winning the cup than staying up.
I'm resigned to relegation because it's easier for me that way, especially this year of all years. There's enough to worry about, and I look forward to next season with renewed hope that we'll do a bit more than ok!!

Don't know why people keep putting themselves through this.
It's over, forget about it. We aren't a Premier League club, we don't deserve a place in it, and we never will deserve a place in it.
It's a miracle that we got there, just like last time...........and the time before that actually as well.

But prolonged periods of stay...........Not a chance,
Prolonged and regular periods of stay is ok for proper clubs like Southampton, Brighton, West Brom, Burnley, Fulham, Bournemouth, Watford, Crystal Palace.

But not us
Sad but true.

As things stand every ten to fifteen years we’ll have the odd season in the PL and the odd one in the 3rd tier.

Until we can compete financially this is the way it is, so let’s enjoy the games as much as possible when we’re up and try to accept our place in the football hierarchy.

To all intents and purposes we’re a championship club from top to bottom.

That's your opinion pal, I don't share it.

I think based on last season Fleck will have plenty in for him. Lundstram gone anyway, Berg has shown flashes of talent so he's probably gone. So that's a midfield rebuild straight off of the bat.

Besides. Brexit and new Home Office rules means it's harder to sign foreign players. So expect to see British players in high demand
Apart from Lundstram the rest are on long contracts, so unless we get a silly offer (which I can't see) why sell any

i have given up and dont mind admitting it its all about opinions ive nothing against another person still thinking weve a chance of survival my brother in law has that opinion by the way but hes an optimist im a realist having followed the blades for 60 years its just a pity we couldnt or wouldnt pay the salaries for chris's first choice players he wanted if so i think we would have stayed up comfortably

It's pretty certain we will go down, but Rotherham were dead and buried when Warnock took over. Barnsley last season pulled off a near miracle after been minutes away from relegation in each their last 2 or 3 games.
If we could just string 4 wins in a row to make it interesting.

If we won 4 in a row starting tomorrow, it would put us 2 points behind where Newcastle are now, 3 points behind where Burnley and Brighton are now. The "where we/they are NOW" is the crucial point.
It would only be "interesting" if those three, plus Fulham and West Brom, lost at least 3 out of their 4 corresponding fixtures. For our pride, it's about how we play. For survival, it's definitely not, it's about how the others play, and the odds are very much against survival because of this.

"Forget the league, we're down and deservedly so" ... WHAT?!!
Having been on a run of winning every other league game for the last 6 games, people are convinced we won't keep doing so against beatable teams and stay up?
The same people that doubtless still hold on to the hope we might win the FA cup by winning all 3 games against Chelsea and possibly the 2 Manchesters to lift the trophy? And it's those of us who haven't thrown the towel in that's deluded?
FFS, where's the fight? Where's the hope for beating the drop?
You can believe for FA cup success by beating 3 top teams, which will probably include Man City at some stage, but not that we can do what other teams, INCLUDING us have done in the past, and put a run of wins together?
Will it happen? Odds say it won't.
But I say f**k the odds. F**k the pundits. We keep fighting until there's nothing left to fight with.
Kinell, 45 points still to play for and some have already given up.
Still, at least we'll be in Europe next season after we smash City in the final eh?

By all means think it, but a new post every week along the lines of “we only need 15 points from a possible 14 remaining, it might happen because everyone else might get wiped out in a flood and Bramall Lane might be the only ground to escape it” making the same point as the previous week seems a bit overkill.

Focusing game to game until it becomes a slightly less impossible task makes more sense, but then I’m sure I’ll be classed as one of these who ‘revels in our failure’ for daring to say that we’re 99% relegated.

Always been the same mate even going back to the John Harris days he wanted a few Bob for players to push on and the board turned him down, sadly it's looks like things don't change no matter Who's the owner.

Negativity on the internet is bullshit, think of where we've come from. If you're a blade, the manager, a player, a fan, then fight, fight & fight, regardless of what happens this puts our Sheffield United on a better footing.
Would have even better if we’d had any fight before half the season had drained away.

It's not daring to say we're 99% relegated, though, is it? It's the other way round. If you don't like these threads, don't read them, certainly don't post on them and enter into the debate, fighting fiercely against optimism like some do, if you think they're annoying. When you're right and we are officially down they'll stop.

We’re relegated. I don’t think that’s a bad or negative view to have either, anything other would be the best premiership story going but at least we can plan for next season.

West Brom bought 4/5 players in January that will all be on good wags in the hope of still surviving, I’m glad we’ve not taken on that financial risk

WBA actually have some decent players so finishing above them won't be easy as some think. Sam Johnstone is a quality keeper and can see him getting a big move.

Until it's a certainty (and regardless of what anyone says it isn't yet) then I reserve the right to keep some hope, and I won't apologise for that.

I can keep that view whilst also accepting that it is highly, highly unlikely.

Ok thanks for letting me know what I can and can’t post and comment on. I’ll keep it in mind in my future use of the forum.

I'm sure you'll carry on doing whatever you want to do. And when you carry on posting criticism of other people posting about escaping the drop, others will carry on asking you what you've got against it and why you feel the need to slap people down for doing it.

It’s debate, if I see someone talking bollocks I challenge it. If I talk bollocks people can do the same, the problem with the internet is that people don’t tend to back down.

In future I’ll keep my opinions to myself, we wouldn’t want differing opinions on a football forum would we?!

Your opening post was not debate. If it was a genuine comment that addressed the OP then fair enough, that's not what I'm criticising and I've been clear on that. The opinion that you've expressed on here has not been specifically that we don't stand a chance and why, but that these threads shouldn't be started - whilst complaining that someone else is telling you what you can and can't post.

It was a pisstake. I’ve challenged the OP on a lot of the stats he’s posted in the past. He ignores anything that disproves his point, so it’s a fruitless exercise trying to do so.

Practically everyone who has replied to this thread is living in the real world.

The words "keep believing" are actually used in one of the posts on this thread, though (I believe).

And if someone posts something daft they should prepared to be told they're acting daft. That's not a slap down, it's social media - it used to be known as pub talk

I think we've all had our friendly discussions with blade too long , and it's true he is such a japester.
Personally I don't go in for the prediction game, whatever the situation, I find it fairly pointless most of the time. I am still hopeful, not as positive as some, but I haven't given up. I just find it odd when someone posts some sort of escape plan and it is met with a tirade of "we're down" posts.
