We need to make more of a fuss..

Not sure I agree with this. If you consider that we have most of them for 3 to 4 years and there’s a chance that only 1 of those will be in the PL.

Ramsdale - might be worth £10m as a top end Championship keeper but I can’t remember the last time a Championship team spend a wedge on a keeper.

Berge - good chance he’ll go at a loss in the summer as he’s not proved himself to be a consistent PL player in the time he’s been with us.

Brewster and McBurnie - need a 15-20 goal season each in the Championship for them to be worth what we paid.

Mousset - too risky for most to pay a fee as he’s never fit.

The ones who could appreciate are:

Bogle (almost certainly) and Lowe (with some good Championship experience behind him).

The ones that will certainly have increased in value we can’t afford to let go of because they are integral to who we are:

JOC, Egan, Baldock, Fleck, Stevens

The others are too old and probably going for nothing or ending their careers with us.
I’d be very surprised if we sell them all, I’ll be even more surprise if we lose money on the ones we do sell.

Value is not just a sell on fee, it’s value to the club whilst they’re at the club.

My point was not to analyse individual players, but the type of players we’ve signed and why I don’t think that adding this January was necessarily a good thing

Sorry, I picked up on the bit that the players will appreciate in value as I can’t see it happening.

I said in a post a few weeks ago that if Brewster and McBurnie get the goals in a promotion campaign then they’ve repaid their fees and more. That’s the ‘value’ aspect.

I wouldn’t have spent a penny this January, pointless.

The Prince is the poorest Chairman in the Premier League & he’ll be one of the poorest in the Championship, not sure how he thinks we can compete?
Well then we need to plan for the long term. Be a financially stable club with a good manager at the helm, look to develop players, and gradually improve our standing either on our own merits or by showing we're attractive to investors.

It's not like we've been misinformed as fans. We knew we had one of the lowest budgets and if anything we've spent far more than anyone expected. Others in this thread have talked about the wage restrictions but the only alternative to that is to spend money we don't have and take a huge gamble on the future of the club. Fine if it pays off, catastrophic if it doesn't. As it stands, going down to the Championship with Wilder in charge and parachute payments coming in could be a very strong position relative to where this club has been in my time.

I could live with a few years in the Championship much better than I could do with being the next Coventry or Portsmouth, or just like us the last time round.

A xenophobic recruitment policy has forced us to fish in the potential pond. Managed to afford Sander easily enough. Most leagues pay much lower wages that the PL and Championship.
You on the strong stuff tonight? 😂

I did think we should’ve looked abroad more. However, our “xenophobic” policy seemingly turned a blind eye to Berge and Mousset, and they are hardly examples that make the argument for the strategy.

Berge, Mousett, Veripps, Retsos, Zivkovich

we’ll see come summer when we’ve sold berge, mousset and egan and we bring in a couple of freebie championship journeymen
I’m finding it amusing that the Prince not being massively wealthy is seeming coming as a surprise to you. Have you had your head buried in the sand for the past 5 years?

Cant knock the Prince for not being rich enough for the PL.

But could praise him for investing what he has.

Could also praise him for not gambling and spending money we don't have, putting the future of the club at risk.

Could also praise him for sticking by Wilder.

For what its worth I think he is a football man and has the best interests of the club at heart.

..about the fact that the prince clearly doesn’t have the funds to take us from mid table championship resources to premier league level.
Got a feeling he’s just gonna pull out pants down and take all prize money for himself. I mean not backing wilder in January is frankly a disgrace- no ambition.
How about you put your money where your mouth is then, or do you lack ambition too😨?

Amazing how good some are at spending other people's money when they are in no position to even remotely understand how to run a business sensibly, sustainably and for the long term benefit of the 'Club'

You might be confusing the Prince with mester Mc no bigger Blade than me.😉

Embarrassing would be saddling ourselves with an unsustainable wage bill in the Championship, like a certain other club not too far from BDTBL.
Why does it embarrass you? 'It's' not embarrassing, you choose to feel embarrassed by it. Big difference.

The Prince isn't as wealthy as almost every premier league and even most the championship. There's no dispute about that.

TV money has been behind the majority of our spending. The Prince will need to dip into his pocket again with us in the championship. We have one year of significant parachute payments...

Eventually we will need to "upgrade" our ownership if we want to become s solid premier league side.

Do you really think that Chairmen pour their entire fortune into football clubs and continue to do so until they've got nothing left, then walk away with a smile on their face.

Clubs spend more than us because they are not proud of having the cheapest match day tickets and cheapest match day experience. It's not a badge of honour to be cheap and play the hard working, drab, poor old us card.

Cheap purchases means cheap sales, you buy in the market you sell in, and you sell in the market you buy in.
And it's all driven by what you pay your players.

The value of a players remaining contract is worth more when it comes to selling than their ability is, which is why a good player at Southampton Brighton, Leicester, Leeds, Newcastle, Villa will move to a top club for £50 million plus, and a good player for us will move to one of the above for peanuts and perhaps get a big move from there.

That club then shops in a higher quality shop than we do and the cycle continues until we get relegated, where we do the same thing on a smaller scale and get relegated again.

The smart operating clubs, who when relegated, loan their best players out for the season, if player or agent won’t drop down a league. If they don’t come straight back up then sell, offsetting a bidding war, for said players. This nonsense that we lose money on young international players is from being brow beaten by the decades of McCabism and the clowns before him.

I think he's an excellent owner who has thrown everything he has at the club in a sustainable way, but the problem is he simply isn't a rich enough for the Premier League :(
His only error is backing Wilder in the transfer market, you don’t need to be rich, you just have to spend the money more wisely.

The revenue from putting ticket prices up would be a drop in the ocean for club finances but everything for some fans, so yes I'm proud that our club has treated us well on that side of things.

The difference in spending power between us and Villa is not the cost of a season ticket, it's the wealth of the owner.

ALK capital were the last desirables, they seem to have taken Burnley from ‘well run’ to ‘debt ridden’ overnight.
They’ll be fine so long as the asset (Burnley FC) doesn’t depreciate in value so long as they’re in the prem and leveraged takeover isn’t a problem. If they get relegated any time in the next few years then the bottom will fall out and they’ll undo all of the last decades hard work.

Mousset was already playing in the UK. I was lazily using the word to refer to our almost complete inability to look at any leagues outside of Britain. Berge is an anomaly and I still think that signing had more to do with the chairman than manager. Ditto to the two foreign loan signings last season.

Along with Burnley, we're the only team who does this. It's not likely to be a successful long-term strategy unless Burnley get relegated and we stay up! Not really room for two teams in the top flight to do that as only a handful of players to go round.

Agreed, we’ve got to up our game with foreign scouting if we want to be successful in the premier league, on a tight budget.

Could it also be possible that Berge and O'Connell are close to coming back and played a part in not bringing in a midfielder and a left sided centre half?
Not saying it is but a possibility?

Agreed, I think we’re adopting a smart approach to recruitment. We do have to accept that not every signing will be a success, but I’d say generally the players we’ve brought in have all got a decent potential to progress over a 2-4 year period.

Why does it embarrass you? 'It's' not embarrassing, you choose to feel embarrassed by it. Big difference.
Did I say it would be embarrassing to me personally?
Not being able to keep up with the wage bill would embarrass the club IMO (c.f. our porcine neighbours)

They start out every season expecting relegation and eventually it will happen. Unless ALK give them the money to become an Everton/Southampton then it’s only a matter of time.

I think they’re one of the oldest squads in the PL too. They’re going to need money spending soon, unless all their players have a Sharp-like ability to play until you’re 70.

Oh I agree at some point the piper will have to be paid just that it won’t implode whilst ever they’re in the prem. it’ll happen whenever Dyche either gets annoyed with the lack of support or one of the big clubs bites the bullet and takes a chance on him.

A lot of comment about money and owners and transfer fees here. I'm not sure exactly why the Prince chose to invest in SUFC.? Anybody.? He's not a blade from way back like a lot of us are. Maybe we should be looking at other ways to fund clubs spending these days given the huge fees demanded for some players.
A shareholders rights issue, OR £ 5000 each from subscribers to a special players fund entitling people to special seats, season tkts etc. !0,000 subscibers x £ 5 k each is £ 50 million. Something to go at. Answers on a postcard please.....

Have you been reading the ‘Chansiri manual on getting money out of mugs’?!
