Was a good impact player when he first joined, looked lively and in ideal player to play in the typical No.10 role, and a possible answer to our goalscoring problems, but since the Wendy game (and even to some extent before the injury) has not been the same, shown the same desire, committment or quality, and is now being shown to be limited by the fact that he is neither i) clinical or instinctive enough to play as a striker ii) never been a genuine winger...
As such what do you do? For me he's been poor for 18 months now, i'd take any fee above £250k and replace him with either a traditional winger or a striker to play alongside bent/ched - maybe they won't have the same potential as ward and it maybe a case of finding a more appropriate player rather than a better one!
Personally theres another few who also fit this category for me, and i'd treat in the same way (surprising how easy united find it to waste resources on utility players rather than specialist players - a couple in a squad are good for cover but we go above and beyond this!), namely Cresswell, Quinn, Ertl, France and similarly Nos (albeit i think thats more down to him not being good enough full stop!)...
Anyway, if he does go, thanks for the memories Wardy, good luck, but for us we have more important worries afoot and can't afford to gamble it on a player who may never quite rediscover the form he once showed!
UTB!!
