Just watched the full highlights and watched Lundstram carefully, he clearly does care and puts in a great shift. I've changed my mind that he should be exiled. Constantly showing for the ball and wasn't afraid to take a shot, which can't be said for some.

Whether he's trying to put himself in the shop window or not, he was excellent against Newcastle United, and he needs to be playing for us to have a chance of getting more points on the board.

Oh it's definitely a shop-window scenario. His brief stint as darling of the Fantasy Premier League community has made him too big for his britches and consequently, he's now cunted himself out of a potentially decent career.

Whilst I wouldn't put him in the weapons-grade twatwaffle category inhabited by previous luminaries such as C** A***s , Kevin Macdonald, Jordan Slew and Matt Kilgallon, I still believe it's best for all involved that he disappears from the club post-haste.

I remain agnostic on whether or not the door should hit his arse on the way out.

Let’s look at this objectively;

He was part of a midfield three last season and did well. The other two midfielders both got new contracts and would have already been on a higher salary than him, before that. We then sign another midfielder from a Champions League side, whose likely one of our highest earners.

Why shouldn’t John want a fair wage? We still look best when he’s playing, like it or not.

Let’s see how costly it’d be to replace him. To put it into perspective, if he is wanting £40k a week (I doubt this), that’s still just over £6.2m, for 3 years.

I think excellent is a stretch for me, but he did ok. He is a bang average footballer but has done much better in the prem than I expected.
He deserves his place at present but for me we need a whole new midfield going forward to do well in this division.

Why do you doubt that?
Because there’s no way we’re paying many, if any, players £40k per week.

Someone, I forget who, said on here last week that his wage demands would have made him the 5th highest paid player at the club.

Had a good game v Newcastle but that hardly does away with some of the half arsed performances he’s put out this year, at times he has looked like a player that doesn’t want to be here and that suddenly changed during the transfer window? Bit of a coincidence if you ask me.

I’d sooner he signed his new deal and got back to playing without his mind being elsewhere. I like him as a footballer when he’s on-song and we haven’t another midfield who can do what he does but those days have been few and far between during the last 12 months.

The midfield against Newcastle is our best comfortably. Lundstram has probably had the best form of that three. Setting the contract beside, Fleck has had the poorest form of the three.

Dare I say Basham is a bang average footballer but is an integral part of the team

Bash is indeed, but he busts a gut every week and his effort and attitude make up for his ability.
Lunny doesn't bust a gut every week.

Lunny doesn't bust a gut every week.
But has been a big part of our limited premier League success

What's he done wrong? He's not signed a contract that he been offered - whoop-di-doo. Arguably he's performed better so far this season than Fleck and many others.

He was good the other day and put in more of a shift than he has probably all season.
We can’t just disregard that after 1 committed game ffs. But a marked improvement yes.

I think both opinions of Lunny can be true, depending on how the lad turns out for the Blades that week. His performance against NUFC was absolutely his best in a good while, though. I agree, he played very well and showed plenty of commitment. I wonder whether, at the last minute, he's thinking I do have it good here...

The broader picture about his worth, he can feel hard done to around Berge joining. Berge was signed as Norwood's competitor, but we understandably didn't want to drop Norwood on the basis of his then form and role as team captain. Lunny can feel hard done to, coming out of the best (albeit brief) period of form in his career, to be replaced by a big money signing played out of position. That said, he hasn't consistently performed well since and certainly hasn't forced his way back into the side.

As are they all, so let's put the lot up for sale
Lots of them should be sold. I would keep the youngsters and recent signings as they could improve and we could get promoted next season to improve their confidence.

To be fair....99% of our fans would do the same as Lundstam......we say we’d turn down double or triple our money...but it’s cheap words.

Lets assume Lunny is currently out lowest paid player on 10K a week and we’ve offered him 25K-30K making him one of the better paid players at the club.
We’ve also attachéd bonuses based on appearances and goals.

However i’ve hesrd the media several times refer to Lundstrum as “one of our best players that we must keep”
The fact he’s on a free transfer is a massive factor.....it means he’ll easily receive offers of 50K or 60K a week elsewhere in the PL.

Lunny’s getting older and won’t have made much from the game....he’s spent most of his career on low wages in the lower divisions.
We bought Berge which means in the long term Lundstram is less likely to be a regular starter for us..

It’s a risk....sign for us...and he‘ll receive a challenge but he’s likely to drift along unnoticed in the Championship.
Refuse to sign...and he’s likely to drift along in the PL..but will become a millionaire and have financially secured his career,

Regardless of anything else, or why, he does care.
When Billy took the pen last week, he was poised for the follow up. When it hit the net,nje was first up to Billy, massive smile.
They aren't the actions of somebody who isn't interested

People make too much of the contract situation. He’s not had a great season but that doesn’t mean that it’s down to the contract, others got a new contract and have also not performed as they can. The one thing that I will defend Lunny for is that, however poor he is playing, he never ‘hides’ and continues to push forward with energy - he’s our only midfielder who has consistently done that this season.

Of course he cares in the game, he's a professional playing an elite level football match with his team mates. He just doesn't care enough about the club to want to stay here, and he's entitled to that, it's his life.
