I'm not saying I prefer him to Egan.. I love egan but to say Dier is terrible is just a joke
 



I think Dier is pretty crap compared to other ‘top 6’ CB’s. He’s one of those in the same bracket as Luiz where I don’t understand how he gets a game at the top level.

However I then concede that PL managers know how to spot a player better than I do and that they would both probably improve the Blades side so I must be talking shit.
 
I wasn't his biggest fan before, but this season he has been outstanding, outside of kane and Son he has arguably been their best player
 
He’s been excellent this season. I find it a really lazy view to say he’s crap based on his performances in previous years - he’s been very consistent this season.
 
He's been excellent this year, admittedly he was suspect pre mourinho but he has turned his form right around
 
Dier is a solid player and I’d take him in our squad in a heartbeat- Jose has made him much more effective and has got him back to playing how he did when Poch first took over.

Every so often there are players who get scapegoated by the media and more recently social media.

Off the top of my head - Sol Campbell, Owen Hargreaves and even Rio Ferdinand got crucified in the tabloids despite being world class footballers who enjoyed excellent careers.

But because their name gets dragged through enough mud the moronic football 'fans' that knows little about the game beyond what they've picked up off twitter memes or FIFA love to join in.

This is happening today with Eric Dier and Harry Maguire.

Maguire I rate, Dier I don’t plain and simple.

I’m not on twitter and don’t play FIFA so I don’t know why that keeps getting brought into the discussion, a little bit disrespectful mate.

I’ve been watching football for 40 years though and like to think I’m allowed to form an opinion on whether I think a player is good or bad.

If anyone else thinks that Eric Dier is a fantastic footballer then maybe I’m not seeing what they are seeing.

No need for our forwards to turn up today. Super Eric will have them in his back pocket obviously
 
He is shit for England but has pretty much held their defence together this season. Aurier is the one to target although sadly he has upped his game a bit recently too.

No one has said he is fantastic, but having watched most of their games this season he has been very very good

May I suggest at 49 years old you should be able to accept other people's opinions that differ from yours without having to finish every sentence with a comment such as

"Well our forwards may as well not turn up" etc etc

You've already admitted you haven't watched them this season, so how you can have an opinion on his current form, I'm not sure

I don't see what one thing has to do with the other? I'm not far off your age and play games. Games have a lower age limit, not an upper one.

20/25 years ago, when online gaming started to really take off, it was genuinely weird when you encountered someone in their 40s/50s who played games (it still happened occasionally, and I dare say those people are still playing games into their 70s or beyond!), but that was because that generation never grew up around computers/gaming. The entire concept was alien to them.

People who are in their late 40s/early 50s now were the pioneers of computer gaming. We invented it. It was our youth pastime. Our generation were the first one who created, bought and played games, and went to school the next day and argued the toss over whether the C64 was better than the Spectrum 48k. This is especially true of the UK, and it's often said that one of the reasons we've always punched above our weight in computer programming and within the games industry is because most kids during the 80s and 90s had home computers here in the UK.

Not only do I play games, but I know loads of people around our age who also play games. I know people who have dedicated games rooms in their houses and have spent tens of thousands of pounds collecting consoles and games!

The press like to constantly recycle stories about how gaming (in moderation, like anything else) is good for you as you get older. The articles tend to be a bit cheesy and patronising, but they often say games are good for mental acuity and keeping your reflexes sharp. Beyond that, it's a way of connecting with your children. The one thing that will get us all around the same TV in our house is gaming (put TV on, especially traditional broadcast TV, and all the kids disappear to their rooms).

Coincidentally, I had a game of FIFA with my 8 year old the other day, going into the final minutes I was losing 11-12. I scored a screamer in the final minute to make it 14-12 (there's a mode called Mystery Ball where you get a random number of goals when you score). I was off, running around the room celebrating like I'd just won the (real) World Cup. He buried his head in a cushion. Two seconds later he kicked off, ran half the length of the pitch, shot from miles away and it flew like an arrow, straight into the top corner. 15-14 to him. Game over. Now he was off around the room/I had my head my head buried in a cushion. Then we just fell about laughing for about 10 minutes at the craziness of it all! Whenever he wakes up he still (days later) trash talks me about that game (really daft things like "I'm hungry but don't know whether to have 14 or 15 corn flakes"), and we fall about laughing at it all again.

You don't get moments like that watching Eastenders together.

Totally agree, I still play games with the wife, hide the sausage is a favourite, and it can be played online too
