Gives us a chance. Forget who’s next, can we get 10 wins from the last 20 games?
 



Based on the previous games this season no , lets not get carried away, after all we did win this one with great possession etc but still couldn,t score from open play lets just see what Spurs brings and not get carried away like the Pork .

We are only talking about staying up, the S6 mob would talking about winning the league if they were in our position.
 
Its definitely possible and momentum can often be a significant factor. If we can replicate the intensity and commitment which we had last night.

The biggest improvement for me was that we were so quick in getting to first and second balls and closing down.

The bad news is that Noocastle were literally zero threat as an attacking force.

Spurs, ManYoo and Citeh will be a different ball game.

If we can sign a big strapping CB and a box to box midfielder on loan we might create a bit more of a defensive barrier in front of the defence and have a bit more competition for places.

Things do look a lot more positive than they did for sure.

The box2box midfielder would make such a difference!!

Based on last night I assume Lundstram's new contract hasn't arrived in his In Box as he put in more of a shift. Maybe he's realised he needs a strong finish to the season to get his £40k a week out of Palace/Brighton/Newcastle/Villa

Sander Berge and JOC should both be back before too long, I hope
 
Just like a few losses and some want Wilder’s head, let’s not get too drawn into our first win of the season, the damage has already been done and I expect nothing more than relegation. As others have said though it’s all about reclaiming some pride and confidence for next season.

IMO A great window would mean Recalling Coulibaly for that required box to box midfielder and also RND for lcb ... these two could help our problem positions given enough time to learn the role and integrate with the side. It would cost nothing and imo for the sake of 4 months of disruption to their development, is worth one last throw of the dice for our PL status

Not the worst shout in the world. However, looking how Osborne, Ampadu and the midfield 3 played last night, I think they'll be the starters for the foreseeable...

I agree and it's great to see a quality performance from those again, however, i do think we should also have a few surprises up our sleeves in case we get another Southampton performance... kids like Coulibaly and RND may have that naivety and the spark to make something happen in games we can't get a grip on

edit: also judging by our bench last night... we desperately need them

I thought last nights style of play was, last seasons style of play, fast paced one touch pass and movement that has unsettled far better sides than Newcastle United and would do again.

Premier League sides dont like to be put on their back foot, the better teams thrive when everyone plays the in the same predictable shape and style. We must maintain the standards we set last night, if we are to survive, the work ethic and slick inter passing attacks we saw last year and again last night, is the only hope we have.

Sadly, in my opinion, the number one thing that would derail any hope of survival, would be the reintroduction of Sander Berge.

We have lost 11 games 1-0 if we had turned some of those into draws or wins like we did last season we would be in a reasonable position.
Get on a roll and can see us turning those type of losses into wins
8/9 of them and every chance

I absolutely agree about Sander Berge. We are so much slower and predictable when he is playing. So many times in matches this season when we have regained possession (we cant waste these opportunities when were not creating load of openings) and had the chance to stretch teams by getting forward quicker, as soon as Berge gets the ball we go sideways and backwards.

I just dont get what many others see when they say hes an incredible talent etc.

A few losses? That’s got to be the understatement of the season!

I love your enthusiasm but that would require Champions League form from the team who’s just set the record for the worst ever start to a season in history. I’m not throwing cold water on your post, but we have to be realistic. If we get up to around 25 points, we’ll have done pretty well in the second half of the season and can hold our heads up.
 
This season is just about avoiding the derby record and a good cup run. We need to win 4 games in a row for any chance of survival which is unlkely
 
Next goal has to be 2-3 more wins and a couple of draws to avoid being the new Derby. If we can get there by the end of February, another couple of wins and a few more draws by the end of the season will get us close to Norwich's total for 2019-20. That would be a massive achievement and stand us in good stead for a promotion push next year.
 
We find ourselves a little gem like Bruno Fernandes then yep, our season probably would be saved! If only it were that easy

That's an unbelievably bad take in my opinion.

Until we met a team totally unwilling to pressure us, i thought our performances had got worse since his injury.
 
In our previous great escape season, Boxing Day 1990 saw our second win of the season - a 1-0 win at Luton. It was our 18th game and put us on 10 points. However, we were still 7 points behind 4th from bottom. That season we would have needed 38 points to stop up, we finished on 46. It wasn't all plain sailing to the end of the season - our 19th game was a 4-1 defeat to Arsenal. We won game 20 but then lost the next two before winning game 23. We actually won 7 on the trot from game 23 including wins against Manchester United and Chelsea.

With 14 clubs currently in touching distance of challenging for a European spot, it's going to be a real struggle.
I think the league being a lot tighter than usual is a negative, not a positive.

The more teams that have something to play for the longer the season goes on, the harder the games will be.
