On Jeremy Vine too. They played our celebrations, but chose to ignore Manchester’s and Everton’s

We’re the easy target here imo if they have a dig at the likes of Man U there are enough fans in the media who would have a pop back we don’t have that. This is in an effort to discredit football and footballers in general after the work rashford has done we’re just the most convenient medium to do that through in this instance. If they’re that outraged do something suspend the season null and void it I do care otherwise keep stum because I can tell them now wilder won’t tell them not to celebrate a win or a goal.

The victim mentality is strong in this thread.

We scored the only goal in the first game since increased scrutiny on lockdown in general and football specifically. They were always going to run a story on this, so if I’m a journalist and my story goes live at 10pm, I’m using source material from as early as possible... I’m not waiting on the possibility of a goal after 8pm, and definitely not til 9:30 or whenever Man Utd scored.

I would’ve been pissed off if later stories only used us (the one on the BBC Sport website is actually filed under Fulham), but the News at 10 stuff is understandable.

There’s no persecution here, we’re just a victim of our own 6pm success.

So what your saying is null and void it?

In Belgium the same nonsense was launched in the media and now fines are being imposed for players who celebrate a goal by hugging another. The hypocrisy of it all is shocking. Players holding eachother at every set piece is ok, for now...

They're actually fining the players?!

Do the BBC not realise that every fucker in the stadium has been tested and are negative?
Do you realise that this only means they were negative at the point that they were tested? So any fucker could have caught covid since, or could have had it at the time of testing but not be shedding enough virus for a positive test. Regular testing isn’t a free ticket to do whatever they want. They still need to abide by the rules that are set for everyone, and this includes all unnecessary contact. Close contact during a match has been proven to be very minimal, but this is obviously increased if players are hugging each other. At the end of the day it is unnecessary.

Yes 750 eur for each hug and 10.000 eur for the club involved... shameful really. What’s next, changing the rules that you have to have social distance at all times during the game. They are crazy enough to do this I am afraid.

Wow, If I was a player I'd be arguing that if it's unsafe to celebrate, it's unsafe to play. I don't see how they can justify the fines.

Yeah, but you already know that's not the case for the BLM movement, it was simply some individuals who setup a political organisation to try and come to prominence on the back of it and were largely marginalised and ignored by most sensible people who weren't just looking for an excuse.
I just found it a little odd someone would reference a minute political organisation without any real relevance within your original response, unless you're one of those looney's who are willfully using that as an excuse to attack an worthwhile movement. You know, like those Millwall morons.
Your opinion of course!

They never even mentioned it was his 100th goal for the club.

Still it's one for CW to pin on the changing room wall.

UTB.
They did on the match commentary though and then mentioned Keith Edwards in 1984. Which just made me feel old.

And Man Utd did the exact same thing for their goal tonight too!
The opening of the News was before the Everton and ManU matches had finished. In the programme itself, the film included Utd, ManU, and Everton players leveraging goals. No agenda against Utd there.

Think rugby is on a break tbf like football should be.
Rugby is not on a break, Championship, top 14 and pro 14 are continuing. These compositions involve team's from England, Scotland, Wales, lreland and france, now you'd be hard to find a sport that more contact in it

I ain't got a problem wi players celebrating wi each other..what does piss me off is players shaking hands or pulling up someone off the floor during the game...when you cross that line it should be war..shake hands at end of battle.

Let's face it, now we're struggling the media have just cast us off as if we aren't fit to lace other Premier league teams boots. Returning from a job at 4:45 this morning I switched on Talksport, or should it be Talkcrap, to hear any comments they had about our result. All they could come with was the fact they found it somewhat annoying that we had full front page coverage on the Goals pullout in the Sun quoting the headlines 'Wonderfull' and seemed pissed off that we took the headlines and no mention of Man U's win or the Wolves v Everton game. They failed to mention that they got back page coverage.

Also, reading the headline pages on all the media press for today, the Telegraph usually have a small box on the bottom of the page with a Premier league game headline. There we have it, our Billy celebrating, but not with the headline of his 100th goal, or indeed our first win of the campaign; no, non of that, it was:
'Hugs all round. premier league players ignore Covid celebration crackdown.
Everyone hates us, but we don't care.

Well if the authorities are going to demand a break in the football season, you can almost guarantee, that immediately after Sheffield Uniteds first win in eighteen fixtures and the first embers of a return to form, now would be seen as the perfect time for them to impose it. 😤

Is it the cups that they’ve called off then ?

Strange how the BBC don't report 20 blokes sat cheek to cheek in rubber dinghies crossing the channel to claim their 4* homes which has been happening every day of every month for the last year.
Apart from the distortion (4* homes), this shows that you don’t watch the BBC News. They have had reporters on beaches, going out on patrol boats, filming with French police intercepting boats setting off from France, etc.

They're focusing on it because the FA and Premier League put out a directive this week saying telling clubs not to do ot and we broke it in the first PL game.

Football is under a lot of scrutiny at the moment. Especially given the amount of players who flouted COVID guidance over the festive period and people outside grounds last weekend.

I suspect we'll probably get fined tbh.
Not sure about the fine, but as far as the context goes, you are spot-on... just like Billy👍
