Eurosport:
Exciting news for Blades fans – you are set to sign a player on Monday. Sheffield United manager Micky Adams said: "I won't give anything away on name, position or club" – geez at least give us a club Micky?

Possibly another loanee in by the end of the window too.

Only two new signings? Centre midfield, winger and a new centre half would be ideal. Not asking for much really am I?

Might be more, I was just talking about the ones that seem like they might be done at the moment :)

Totally understand...I was just wishful-thinking for a moment. I'd be happy with 2 new signings...if they are in the right places. More would, undoubtedly, be better. :)

From what I can gather. A permanent CB is coming in Monday. Possibility of an old face coming back in CM on a Permanent (financed by KM). And possibly a LW coming in on loan.

think we have the strikers in evans bent boggy cresswell and the defence with mattock, lowery, bartley, parrino, lowton, ertil, calve, kozluk

but now we need to sort out the supply Reid would be 1 answer and a winger to play instead of Ward as he looked out of sorts yesterday.

yates montgomery and reid with one other in midfield and we should be sorted fingers crossed.

What about Williamson ? first name on the sheet for me. A keeper and an experienced centrehalf/left back please.

Me too, with regards to Williamson...is he fit enough though? He's had a long, long time out...it's expected that he have found the recent games hard work fitness-wise.

I've got a sneaking feeling that it will be Michael Brown coming in tomorrow. Portsmouth need him off the books, we need a presence in midfield and with Leon Britton's wages now available I cant see anyone else who would offer Browny more than we could.

It could of course be wishful thinking by his biggest fan :)

Brown in centre miidfield playing a holding role with Willo along side him would be an ideal partnership,imo. Will KM really fund this ?

A Brown/Williamson midfield would indeed be ideal...however, that would therfore require Monty being dropped. Something that has not happened often over the last few years.

I imagine Willo will be used on the right wing as we move forward, which he's shown before he's adaptable enough to play, and he's certainly an improvement on Ward at the minute. Monty and new signing in the middle.

it was a bit strange really i logged on to a rumour about Drogba then it just popped up. Lets hope it is exciting news.

Utterly predictable. Move a very capable central midfielder to the right-wing where he has invariably struggled to make any impact at all simply to accomodate The Maestro. Never, never, never must we even contemplate taking to the pitch without our resident non-footballing liability.

I struggle to believe this but it's absolutely true. Many of you put this admirably committed but talentless plodder before the good of the club itself. You'll be burning season tickets if the manager ever dares to leave him out.

Yet again, I despair.

Monty - To Relegation and Beyond!

Plodder or Maestro ?
For god sake change the record ,more insulting patronising guff.

Congratulations Pinchy. Now that Olle is posting good thought out and truly thought provoking stuff, you've now got the mantle of the forum's most tedious poster.

Yes but so long as you've got your talisman of mediocrity, my inconsequential ramblings don't matter a jot.

Onward to League One.

Coventry local press say it's Doyle....

Michael Doyle set to sign for Sheffield United

MICHAEL Doyle, Coventry City’s longest-serving player, looks set to sign for Sheffield United in the next 24 hours.

Sky Blues boss Aidy Boothroyd admitted last night that he will not stand in the Irish midfielder’s way if he wants to rejoin former City boss Micky Adams at Bramall Lane.

And Doyle’s body language when he was substituted in the second half of yesterday’s 2-1 defeat against Championship leaders QPR suggested that he is on his way after clocking up more than 300 appearances since arriving at Highfield Road in the summer of 2003.

The acting skipper, whose mutual admiration of Adams is no secret, took his time to leave the Loftus Road pitch and made a point of saluting the knot of nearly 500 supporters who travelled to London to watch the Sky Blues take the lead via Marlon King before being overhauled by a Rangers side inspired by Moroccan ace Adel Taarabt.

Asked about the Blades’ interest, Boothroyd said: “If there is something in it then we’ll have to discuss it.

“I’ve got a lot of time for Michael, who has been terrific for us, but I’ve got Aron Gunnarsson, Lee Carsley and Sammy Clingan and young players like Conor Thomas coming through.

Looking fairly nailed on...

Damn you LB.

Complete waste. He is a footballer, box to box midfielder who is cvreative and gets his foot in. He is a CENTRAL midfielder and should play there. Putting him out wide is a compalte waste. When the options in the centre are Quinn, Ertl and Monty then it is nothign short of insanity.

Not onl this but Adams has stated that he likes to get the ball out wide quickly. Playing a central middlider as a winger is not fulfulling that. Mind you, neither is playing a striker (Cressy) out there either.

Utterly predictable. Move a very capable central midfielder to the right-wing where he has invariably struggled to make any impact at all simply to accomodate The Maestro. Never, never, never must we even contemplate taking to the pitch without our resident non-footballing liability.

Spot on Pinch. I think you are a little melodramatic, but the underlying message is right. Get Williamson in the middle. For me, you can play him with Monty (or Quinn) but under absolutely no circumstances should Williamson be playing out of position when Quinn, Monty or Ertl are playing midfield!!!!

He worked with Adams before at Coventry so it seems to make sense.

H e has a fair amount of experience, but is he any good? I know little about the guy.

Decent player but more of a combative ball winner than anything else. If he does come I would be perplexed to see him playing alongside Monty as they do the same job. Doyle is probably a little more mobile and more comfortable on the ball though.

Personally, I think we need two centre mids. I like Willo but he's a little too lightweight to hang your hat on. Definately better in the middle of the park but I'm forever worried he will pick up injuries.

From 365. I for one am VERY excited...

It's this kind of "finding positives in sh*t players" that has seen us been dismal for 10 or so years. Doyle is not a good footballer. Doyle (not his fault) has been getting paid silly amounts of money to be useless for Coventry far too long. Yes he's workrate is top both but I expect nothing less, especially when he can't tackle, pass or protect the back 4 very well, all things he is supposed to do and justify his inclusion in the team by performing them well. I'm sick an tired of us carrying these losers for so long. The hero worship he gets from 25% of our fans is ludicrous, thank god the other 75% have wiser up.

Plus with his reported £8k a week wages freed up we could bring in a couple of players so much better than Doyle, even if that's only on loan. Thank you Micky and sorry to Sheffield United fans, I feel sorry for them even more as each new Micky Adams moment of lunacy rears it's ugly head once more.

Thanks for trying hard Doyle but good riddance to a player who is so far below what our ambitions are. I we want to scrape survival each year in this poxy league, then keep Doyle.

Carsley can p*ss off as well. Gunnarsson and Clifan are far better footballers than the pair of them.

I don't worship Doyle, and he would be 4th choice CM for me at the moment. But he has been here 7 or 8 years and has been picked by every manager up until last season, so there is obviously something there.

He was fantastic alongside Dennis Wise (under Adams of course) and helped us to our highest finish in the league that season.

I don't doubt that we will be able to bring in a player or two of much more ability, but I think he gets a hell of a lot of stick. Much more talented players who can't be arsed to play have gotten less stick than him. Kevin Thornton for example, if he put in as much effort into his game as Doylr he'd be a regular for us and could probably have played for Ireland, instead he dropped down to non league and is now at Northampton I believe. Yet he was worshipped by the fans!

If you like players whose main attributes consist of:
- Launching the ball really high in the sky, straight up;
- Struggles with 5 yard passes to team mates;
- Fouling;
- Snarling;

Then you've got yourself a good'un.

I'll offer a positive spin on Doyle, as mentioned he will work his nuts off and get stuck in and can be what you need in a relegation battle. Every 100 or 150 games, he scores an absolute belter as well despite being terrible at shooting. He can be rather entertaining to watch as well in that he winds up the opposition and suffers from a severe case of small man syndrome, it certainley makes a 0-0 draw away to Sc**thorpe a little more interesting.
