I would have liked to have asked him if he's ever inherited such a mess as the one he's just walked into.

Should have chucked it our way earlier :)

And just before the conspiracy theorists start... I paid for my own pie :D

Foxy, Linz, Sterling work as ever and much appreciated by me.

Thank you very much.

Massive thanks for the updates - brilliant to be able to follow it as it happened on twitter.

I was really encouraged by what I read and raised a glass to Pinchy when Pulis got mentioned!

We shouldn't over simplify styles and Adams saying he wants to get some big, strong players in the side doesn't mean it has to be hoof. How tall were Wenger's best Arsenal sides? Nearly all 6 footers.

He wants to play 4-4-2, get the ball wide and use pace to stretch opponents. That doesn't mean aimless hoofing which I'm sure no-one wants to see, not even Pinchy's imaginary 'We  hoof brigade'.

Personally I want to see a team who move the ball around quickly, press as a group when the opposition have the ball, look to get the ball into dangerous areas as often as possible and who have the physical attributes (pace, strength, height) required for modern day football. I think Adams will bring us that.

I saw a stat the other day which said WBA had hit more long passes than any other team in the Premier League this season. It doesn't all have to be short passes for it to be good to watch.

Though some of the concerns about transfers came to the forefront, I think Micky comes across outstandingly in this Q&A and I think we may have some spirit back.

Nice one Foxy and Linz,

Everyone seems to be quite positive but for me my biggest concern is still around the playing style. Despite Vale fans claims otherwise Adams believes in 4-4-2 and get it into the danger areas quickly. So a change of ethos is obviously no longer the clubs aim.

I'll be interested in how many fans are going to come back to pay £30 a match for shit football, successful or not. I think a lot of these fans who walked away wanted more for their money and we've actually not moved forward from Blackwell, so what was the point of sacking him?

It sounds like a change from 4-5-1 with Evans. Cresswell or whoever stuck up front on their own 20 yards from the nearest midfielder. It's therefore a change for the better.

4-5-1/4-3-3 with great players is exhilarating. With mediocre players it's often mind-numbing.

It's how you play those formations though isn't it. Getting the ball forward quickly isn't a change for the better in my opinion is just going back to front and getting your fullbacks to hoof it.

Getting the ball forward quickly through quick passes though is good to watch. Two touch, 15 yard passes goalkeeper to centre back to full back to defensive midfielder to wide midfielder to attacking midfielder to forward gets the ball forward quickly.

Whether we've got the players to do it is a completely different matter.

Seriously?

I seem to remember the Lane being quite full when NW was in charge and we played fast direct football, it wasn't pretty to watch sometimes but the ground was still full.

Anyway cheers Linz and Foxy, Stirling work.

Indeed. Most people care about results first and style second.

Maybe it's just because Corky was back with the fans and we shouldn't read too much into it, but I found it concerning that so many answers given went back to Bassett's days... 20 years ago. Maybe the players will start celebrating Christmas in August!

Anyway, top work Foxy and Linz. Many thanks.

That was then, I think there has been a change in what a lot of the old guard want to watch. I think there is an element that would happily watch the type of football Doncaster were playing a couple of seasons ago over direct football getting us to the playoffs.
I guess we will see, Adams style will certainly get us out of the relegation battle IMHO I'm just not interested in throwing away substantial amounts of money to watch the same shit at Blackwell served up.

I'm sick to death of everyone banging on about tippy tappy sideways football and how it would be lovely to watch to watch SUFC play it.

If anyone hasn't noticed "the Arsenal of the North" are only 7 points above us and 8 points off the play offs.

The football from the 'triple assault' season and the season we went up, was amongst the most enjoyable I've seen as a Blade.

Direct, passing in the final third, pacy wingers and at least one attacking central mid.

I think this argument is fundamentally wrong. Football supporters want to see success and their team winning. Neutrals like to see good football!

If the Arsenal supporters I know are anything to go by, Wenger remaining in position is dependant upon winning something this season, or at worst Spurs not winning anything/ finishing below them. There is a growing element of Gooners that would happily switch to a more 'pragmatic' approach that meant they finally won something.

The "Arsenal of the North" don't have our resources if they had they wouldn't have sold their best players and probably would of had a least one run at the playoffs by now. Keep in mind they are probably working to a wage bill which at the time I mentioned was a third of ours.
That said I think they are about to go backwards having reached their glass ceiling but good football can be successful in our league look at WBA or Blackpool.

I'm sure they'd be happy to have you at the Keepmoat, where in a good year you can see them score more than a goal a game at home!

You are aware of what we've been up to the last 3 years, I assume?

Then they are fools. Arsenal are competing year on year with teams who have vastly superior resources while they pay off their debts generated due to the stadium move. Every year Arsenal out perform plenty of teams who have spent considerably more year on year. If these fans honestly think that it is better to watch more direct football in return for a Carling Cup they are fools.

No they have a board of millionaires that are currently paying some big wages personally, you shout bigger resources, I'll whisper Matt Kilgallon.

That board will bring in more higher paid players in the summer and have a run at the play offs next season if SOD is still there.

Wow. I bet you enjoyed every minute of the Bassett years, Bob!

There's a big difference between a short, quick, attacking passing game as practiced by Barcelona and Arsenal and the sideways, short, slow passing game as practiced by Doncaster and Swansea. The first, when done well, is awesome to watch. However, as Arsenal are showing, you need incredibly good players to make it work. Those players are certainly not plying their trade in the Championship!

You probably know more Gooners than I, living where you do, but the ones based in our southern office are more than happy with them. They are pretty "old school", like me, and quake at the idea they could ever go back to George Graham stylie "1-0 to the Arsenal" when they couldn't even sell out the much smaller Highbury every week despite lifting the league (and obviously a much cherished 1993 FA/League Cup double).

As for "The Arsenal of the North" ONLY being 7 points above us. What a relief, only 7 points behind Doncaster Fucking Rovers.

I said two seasons ago, and their wage bill still won't be anywhere near ours. There is no doubt that they have gone backwards in their playing style since then.

Killa won't move them forward, he is a decent centre half at this level, not worth anywhere near the money he wanted.

Haha I enjoyed it at the time, but I was younger and it was cheep to get in. I think fans want something more now and unless we are promoted you can forget 25,000 crowds with direct football.
