Interesting the vociferous reaction to Nathan Dyer being signed due to his bag snatching incident, but not much negativity towards this chap despite him being a violent woman-bashing thug.

Hmm...

Obviously the desparation they see the club in has made them lose there morality!!

Ooo be careful, a bit of balance please he also bashed two blokes and thats more important to someone who posts more in the 'General Chat' section. Women bashing is differnt to bloke bashing. --------is it?

She probably deserved it ;)

Punched a woman in the face in a club. Both of my west brom mates used the same word to describe him - toilet. Think he joined west brom after claiming he was too good to play for leicester. Was so bad at the Lane I remember him. Oh well, he's a Blade now, all the best Joe

Hold your horses. He's hoping to make another signing before the weekend.

Let's hope it's not Dean Leacock as is rumoured. He's worse than Mattock

Judge Michael Pert QC told the footballer: "The plain fact of the matter is you were earning what most people would regard as a king's ransom.

"If the price of that is to take some stick in a nightclub in your home city when you had left Leicester for another club, frankly you should have been able to handle it."

"take some stick"? Is that how judges talk these days - m'lud?

(It's hardly my scene, but I imagine there will always be someone ready to abuse footballers in nightclubs and bars, not that it is an excuse for retaliation. Didn't Warnock try to stop Curtis Woodhouse from going home at weekends, to try to keep him out of trouble?)

Four people? At least the new guy should be punching above his weight....

Obviously I'm not condoning the retaliation (actually I am), seems a strange thing for the Judge to say.

Basically says, you earn the cash and move to a bigger club, then deal with the shit.

I'm Sorry, but I had a similar thing a few years ago just after I started working overseas. Went out in my local town in Derbyshire and there was a situation where I got grief from a lad because I used to go down the town all the town and because I'd taken an offer that I couldn't refuse and moved away, I thought I was better than him. Lets just say that I wasn't pleased and didn't look for the trouble, I was out on a night out with some good mates which I hadn't seen in a while (part of being an expat). I'm not a footballer and i'm not high profile in anyway, but I've worked hard for what I have, but the thing is, any criminal record for me is out of the question, I'd miss out on jobs, would have problems with getting visas etc and basically have a lot of grief.

The other lad wouldn't have any of these problems and in many small towns, you get people who want a pop at anyone that isn't "local". Its not just footballers

Have you seen the video I linked to earlier? There's no amount of provocation that would justify punching two women in the face!
Mattock's only defence was obviously that he was "taking some stick" (hence the judges comments) but he clearly throws the first punch at all four of them.
He can't even claim he was defending himself or retaliating. Lucky he only get a suspended sentence IMHO. It will be difficult to warm to him as a player...

Sorry I couldn't view it, I was making the point about the Judges comments

Swiss, I checked it out on youtube. The first hit makes a nice connection on some guy's face. He ends up on his arse. The second one is a bit blurry. It's a woman, and you don't actually see him strike her, she goes in and then ends up coming out even faster. I actually wonder if he knew it was a bird at all. It's dark, he's drunk, and there's loud music. In all honesty, if I was in the same situation and someone came towards me I'd probably strike out then find out who it was after. The others are hard to see... again very blurry. I don't want to come across all Wenger like, but I didn't see the incident.

I'm very surprised at the judges remarks. He's pretty much saying that if someone earns a lot of money you can verbally abuse them without retaliation.

Anyway, I'm not exactly happy about it but big surprise - footballer gets drunk and gets into fight. It's been happening for longer than I care to remember and it's not as bad as premeditated theft.

Could he not have used the 'clear intent to foulharm' argument of our favourite cheeky scouser? ;)

I've watched the You Tube clip and he didn't seem to want to know when the big unit approaches him near the end, is it to early to question his bottle?

To be fair, it's one thing to take on four people, another thing entirely to be rumbling with a fat munter like that. Any sensible brawler steps off when someone like that starts waving her sweat pits around.

I agree. Earning lots of money doesn't mean you stop being a human (ok there are some exceptions). Goes back to the regular comments on other threads that we all should be able to abuse footballers simply because they earn lots of money. Pure jealousy and much of them acting like the big time charlie is all in people's heads. No worse than anything you'll see on West Street. Being a nob isn't exclusive to the rich.

He punched those women in the face, hes a bell end. There is no glossing over it, I hope he does a job for us but he il still remain a bell end.

He might have a super power like in Misfits. Knowing our luck it would be a crap one.

I see from the O/S that the initial approach came from Mattock's grandad.
Maybe the kid and his family are desperately ashamed of what happened and keen to make a fresh start.

Time to cut him some slack, as our US cousins would say.

He could turn out to be a real star for the Blades this season. Let's see how he fares tomorrow.

No. He punches woman in the face, prick.

Hell hath no fury .....

I was once glassed by a drunken woman at a party. My face still bears the scars.
