Can someone please explain to me why Dunk wasn't sent off?

Watching MOTD again has me spitting feathers.

Dunk does a reckless deliberate and dangerous tackle on Burke from behind as he is running in on goal. Yes he's not quite the last man, though that could have caused a serious injury. In fact I would say that it was serious foul play.

Why was it not a red?

Also why did none of our players surround and hound the referee and why didn't Wilder kick up a fuss on the touchline and the 4th official to try to get them to look at it on VAR?

We should know sadly by now that such behaviour enables you to win football matches in the PL

I agree we would be fuming, though if football are giving red cards out for Lundstram I don't see the consistency here.

Not looking for an argument, genuinely interested in the definition of 'serious foul play'.

I didn't think Dunk's challenge was at all a legitimate attempt to win the ball as he was so far away, and from behind with the foul that he did he endangered his opponent.

That's just my opinion though, wonder where it fits in the definition/interpretation

Lundstrams was a red. Dunks wasn’t. Hope that clears it up
 
SERIOUS FOUL PLAY. A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.

What is deemed as excessive force or brutality ? (to me both are very grey areas wide open to interpretation)

My take on it is they've just about stripped the game to its bones with rule changes & VAR.
"Serious Foul Play" seems to be saying a powerful tackle is not allowed within the game as it can be construed as dangerous. But so can just about any collision on a football field. For instance Match of the day pundits all thought Lundstram's was a red & that the Villa players tackle in their game was not worthy of a red the difference being that Lundstram's was too heavy a tackle..............absolute joke I think!!
No surprise if slide tackles will soon be barred.

I reckon we on average commit one foul a game which is absolutely not a legitimate attempt to win the ball and often from behind. Yesterday Osborn did it. And that was completely from behind involving a combination of a drag down and a slide tackle. That doesn’t equate to serious foul play.
 
Dunk was careless; Lundstram reckless and in the eyes of the officials the former is a cautionable offence and the latter worthy of a sending off.

100% agree but it's situations like this (and Osborn's which led to the equaliser) were IFAB should be bringing in the sin bin. 10 minutes off the pitch for cynical fouls would make the game much better.

Quite honestly, I've lost track of what is a Yellow and what is a Red now. Given my advancing years I can remember when tackles like Lundstrams were 10 a penny. Brian Richardson could tackle like that and get away with it. So did Tommy Banks, Bolton left back, which is why Stan Matthews never played at Bolton if Banks was playing.! Nearly forgot, what about that cultured ball player at the other place, " Killer Curtis." ?
 
One of the big problems I have with all these decisions is that they are made according to how much the player rolls around and how much his team mates crowd the ref and call for action. I'm not one of those calling for our players to do the same, what I'd like is for the refs to acknowledge it happens, it's a problem and get round a table and work out what to do about it.
 
This reminds me of when the West Ham and Spurs were complaining about VAR disallowing the goals they scored at BL based on stupid accidental hand ball.
Although in spirit I agreed that both goals should have counted.

However you can’t blame VAR...the decisions to disallow were correct based on THE RULES.

Tony Cascaroni is friendly with Wilder and likes us....so he’s possibly slightly biased in favour of us.
He said 10 years ago it’s at worse a yellow card. He said Lundstrum won the ball but his follow through was out of control and reckless.
He didn’t like how the Brighton player made a meal of it but said under THE RULES he thinks it probably was a red.

He said if Lundstrum had connected with the player it could have been a leg breaker but fortunately he didn’t connect
His final word was “a yellow card would have deem lucky” where as “a red is a tad unlucky“
He blamed Lundstram for a poor 1st touch then racing in to win a 50/50....he said you should use you intelligence and not give the ref a decision to make.

Our players have tried doing the same and McBurnie injured himself doing so. 😄 🤦‍♂️
 
If Dunk was the only defender in the picture then he would have been off. The reason why it was a yellow was because White was near enough to have a chance in winning the ball as you can see in the photo

In the Leeds v Man U there was a really bad tackle involving Alioski and both commentators said it was worse then the Lundstram one and should have been a yellow if not a red but the referee did nothing except a free kick and it didnt go to VAR.

For the record, “reckless” is a yellow. For it to be red it needs to involve excessive force or endanger an opponent.

I still cannot believe someone got sent off for a sidefoot tackle. To use a friend’s phrase, if the Brighton lad didn’t want to get hurt, he “shouldn’t have been on the tracks when the train came in.”
 
Well, Lundstram shouldn't have been sent off. I've not seen anything posted on the incident but if anyone thinks that's a sending off you've lost it.

It's a proper tackle.

He won the ball. And if anyone wants to argue he didn't, feel free. You're wrong.
 
In my opinion which unfortunately doesn’t count . Lundstram’s offence was not even a foul.
He clearly won the ball and did not endanger the opponent, his foot was not raised or over the top , he went in with determination to win the ball yes , his opponent wimped out and consequently got injured and it was his own fault. What got Lundstram sent off was the reaction by southern Nancy boys to what was a perfectly legal challenge

Football is that corrupt that they wouldn’t discuss things like you suggest round a table, they’d discuss other things because football is bent as fuck.

You don’t even hear what the officials are saying when discussing decisions on the field of play, even though they have the technology because they don’t want to let the paying customer or anyone for that matter hear what they’re saying regards what decision they’re going to make, it’s bent as fuck.
