Not usually one for knee jerk reactions but had a bottle of red with lunch so thought I'd join in the pile on!!

Personally think Berge joining has been the catalyst for this downward spiral. You can chart the demise of Norwood and Lundstram to the day he walked through the door. Our system worked so well at the start of last season due to Lundstram's lung bursting runs and Norwood's ubiquitous pings...

The merits of him as a player can be debated but the impact of his arrival cannot...

Plus he was by far our worst player today...

I've said the same thing over and over about Berge. His attitude doesn't seem right to me, out of possession in particular. He doesn't want it enough. I would look to sell him and bring in a player or two who better suits the situation we're in.

But. We signed a deep-lying playmaker used to playing possession football and stuck him wide right in a long ball team that was already losing it's mojo. I find it very hard to blame one player for the problems we've had in the last year.

I'll be honest, I think it's about people trying to blame anyone but the guy who's really responsible: Chris Wilder.

While he hasn’t been great, he is one of a few that will have another gear. Quite a few more, bluntly and sadly, will not.
 
I wrote about this a while back as well. Flatters to deceive, always passes sideways and backwards and little to no goal threat.
Before he arrived we had a good thing going.
i also think Lundstram wanting to leave is because he ha lost his place and will be on substantially less money.
 
He's used to playing in a midfield 2 not 3 so what you expect, if anything ampadu is just as bad as the others we have
 
Everyone seems to think Berge is an automatic sell when we go down but if we can’t sell for an actual profit which I think is unlikely as it stands, then we should just keep him.

I agree that he doesn’t really seem to fit the system though and in that sense was a waste of resources, we needed to sign a player exactly like Lundstram but better.
 
On my version on player manager I’ve swapped the cruise ship like Berge for Lunny to add more power and speed I think I’m heading for Europe lol but anyway that’s me
 
This is a bit of a myth, really. Lunny was already losing form by the time Berge arrived. He was at risk of losing his place to Besic. And we were brilliant with Berge against Spurs and Chelsea, when we last actually looked like the Sheffield United we know.

Oh well definitely sell him for twice what we paid, to Man City or somewhere like that, or so we keep being told. Guaranteed doubling of our money, wasn't that it?

Apparently he'd thrive in City's team. Maybe so, but how on Earth is he going to get into their side in the first place? He's no remotely good enough, just because he'd look better in their midfield than ours doesn't mean he's good enough to be picked.

yes, agreed and texted the same to a pal at HT.

We all wanted it to work, but trying to fit Berge in and allegedly creating a diamond with him at the base of it was fine in theory as this is what he does for Norway - but it simply hasn't worked in practice.

Whether us lumping it to McB has resulted from this is a debatable point - but we're using McB in the wrong way and consequently he is being made to look useless.

Yes you hit the nail on the head. He is easily our best player, but in an effort accommodate him we’ve caused a lot of collateral damage amongst our once close knit squad.
 
He is a good player, but doesn't fit in with what's around him. He will do well in a good team but he's no one even near his quality in our side to play with. And the fact we make up for it by relying on tempo to catch teams, and he slows it down too much.
 
What a ridiculous thread! If you as a player are that badly affected by the introduction of another player then you sir... are a Kent!!
 
the way were playing i doubt anybody will be in for any of our players totally outclassed today but it doesnt help the way we set up its not a 3 at the back nowadays its 5 with 3 midfielders 10 yards in front absolutely no chance for our strikers to get in the game
 
This player, Berge, wasn't he one of those players from abroad? Presumably, he is not the standard that so many people are urging us to go and recruit from over there?

Wrong. The rot started before Berge walked through the door. We were scraping results from December onwards. This has been coming.
