Just heard Gabby Agbongalor? on the football show talking about the blades. While the presenter and Danny Mills expressed caution, Gabby stated he had no worries about United and they have everything they need to beat Arsenal. He did say they just need more goals but they are very good.

The way they played suggests that we will get at least 6 more points than them over the rest of the season and outside of the game we played against them they've played Fulham who are favourites to go down while we've played Leeds who are expected to finish mid table and Wolves who came 7th the last 2 years

Still convinced we'll finish above Villa?

I know today was a crazy game, but they look different class, both compared to us and to what they were last season.

Not as convinced but probably yes. Could have said the same thing about Norwich last year

Every season under CWAK, bar last season, the first 4 games have been poor. It’s like research and common sense is none existent on here?

Some truth to that but we have never had to play Man C/Liverpool/Chelsea in the next 4 games before.

Everyone looked at the fixtures before the start of the season and thought ‘it’s going to be difficult’. Well, it has been. It’s also been a very unpredictable start for most clubs. I believe the team is mentally strong enough to deal with this.

And yet they're already six points ahead of us, with a game in hand.

Villa are now 14 points ahead of us, for reference. Anyone still going to bullishly suggest that we'll easily finish above them?

A lot of the insults flying around earlier in this thread look darkly comic now, what we us having the worst ever start in the top flight and all.

There is no doubt that the goals have been flying in during the first couple of rounds of games. A number of commentators have suggested that this could be down to the absence of crowds resulting in many players playing with considerably greater freedom than has previously been the case. Unfortunately that doesn't apply to us.

Up until the lockdown in March, we were a team that was on the front foot every week and playing every fixture (save for Liverpool away) without fear. The concern must be that in the 13 matches we've played since the restart in June, we have not been that same front-foot team.

Obviously, the loss of JOC on the eve of the first game v Villa completely destabilised us - particularly as we typically seize control of games in the first half with the work that we do down the left flank - but we have, in the following dozen games, only fleetingly looked anything like the team we were up to March.

I saw a lot of the Leicester v Burnley game this evening, and the touch, movement, speed and sharpness on display was noticeably light years away from where we have been since June. We were producing just that sort of football ourselves, however, up until March.

Hopefully we can rediscover our mojo quickly because at the moment, the thought of the season turning into a high-scoring shootout is a nightmare prospect for us when you consider the considerably superior firepower available to the vast majority of other teams in the division.

I read the writing on the wall with genuine concern in September, when there was still a couple of weeks of the transfer window available to try to address the huge JOC-shaped hole in our system.

17 points, and a game in hand.

The gap is probably more points that we'll get all season.

I think a few on here owe the opening poster an apology... He called it and the ones making sarcastic responses look like right cunts
Just because it turned out he was right, doesn't mean the sarcastic responses weren't reasonable at the time.

A stopped clock is right twice a day.

The problem is unless you say we're going to win 7 nil every game you're ridiculed as a bed wetter or a Wednesday fan.... Most of our 'bigger blade' fans know sod all and talk absolute bollocks 90% of the time .. It was pretty obvious where this season was headed after the first game

Well it wasn't obvious to most other blades fans, football pundits or the bookies, you should've lumped on the odds would've been fantastic.

Hardly anyone that's negative or slating the team, ever mention the pandemic.

However it's affected players off the pitch (we will never know), it also means our non-world class players are trying to beat teams with (technically) better players... Without any fans to roar them on and give them an edge.

In my opinion, that edge was clearly making a big difference last season.

Watch the difference it makes when even 2k fans are allowed into Bramall Lane.

Just watched WBA V CITY, There is no-one in this league worse than us this season , Fulham and WBA have improved from the start of the season and are showing some balls to fight ,were as we roll over and get our tummies tickled !

100% everyone else has grown into the league and improved.

We are getting worse by the game. Depressing feeling following this side at the moment - there doesn’t appear to be a light at the end of the tunnel. We aren’t just going to magically be competitive
