What’s the lowest level a player has dropped to after playing for us?

I ask this as I note Daniel Bogdanovic has been plying his trade for Xewkija Tigers F.C, playing in the Gozo Football League on the Maltese island of Gozo (pop. 32k) since 2014.

He does have a league winners medal though.

He's also got old and was with us 10 years ago , if he fancies a kick about at a lower level that might be better for him than not playing at all.

It's the first team players that left us and ended up playing League 2 or non league football immediately after leaving us that was a problem

Chico Hamilton played for Windsor in the County Senior League

Wayne Quinn looked superb for us for a while, was absolutely gutted he went to Newcastle (for good money), didn't he end up playing in Cornwall or something?
(Hope I'm remembering this right)

Also didn't Lee Morris look really good, sold him for sommat daft like £3m but in an incredible double cross United found the suitcase of cash was packed out with a useless Jon Hunt and an average Rob Kozluk with just a layer of 20 pound notes covering them up.

I'm out later and dancing. Will do the twist and see how low I can go😂 On another note I watched Bhuttya play in Goa a few years ago at Fatorda Stadium. He'd been playing for Bury. Indian captain. Bury wages Vs Indian........ Low

Think Hunt and Kozluk were part of the deal sending Borbokis to Derby rather than Morris.

Michael Boulding was playing in the Meadowhall league 2 seasons after he came on loan to us. He was a tennis coach and earned more doing that than as a footballer. He did go back to being a pro-footballer again though.

Wilder also played for Bradway in the Meadowhall league.

Wheres Jordan Slew these days?

Can't believe he was a million pound player.

Possibly but more importantly, who had who's pants down?
In the case of Borbokis, he only played 16 times for Derby, so although we got half a million compensation for taking the atrocious Hunt off their hands, we also got mediocre clown Kozluk, so nobody really got a great deal out of that transfer.

In the case of Morris, we got £3m which was a lot at the time, he did OK for Derby at first, but went to Leicester for next to nothing a couple of years later and got an injury that pretty-much ended his career 10 years before his career actually ended playing for Loughborough Dynamo a few times while he was coaching there.

Plays for Morecambe in League 2

Still in the Football League, remarkably, at League Two Morecambe. According to Wikipedia (which normally only records league goals) he's scored 13 goals in his career to date.

I love that so many ageing players aren’t too proud to accept dropping down levels as the price of continuing to play football. Far more preferable to Michael Owen, who achieved everything but wanted out at 30.

I think a better question is which players absolutely plummeted after leaving us, despite being at a viable age?

J-Mac springs to mind...

28 year old JS, 14 league and 2 cup goals (FA FL) here's a lad who did well out of the make your money when you look good, was at Premier League Blackburn for over 3 years! Well done sir United got a million quid too, proper deal in hindsight!

Violently well it would seem:

Craig Alcock, now aged 33 is playing for Harlow Town of the Isthmian League South Central Division.

A 28 year old James Wallace is no longer playing for Fleetwood and has become their scout. Feel a bit sorry for him, without injuries I always felt there was a player hidden there somewhere.
Lecsinel Jean Francois career was similarly ruined by injury, never got a club after picking up a few injuries with us. He was just 27 when we released him, can't find any record of him playing since.

Darryl Westlake ended up at Stourbridge, where his career seemingly died.

A few youth players with the odd senior appearances have had careers less impressive than they dreamt. I.e. Matt Harriot, went on to play for: Wealdstone, Wilmington Hammerheads (whoever the hell they are/were) and Hendon.

If you look at Adkins team it's worrying how many of them are now in Scottish football league or Conference north.

Do we know how much of that million pound we got?

I hope it was not in insallmants and performance based income.

A better question would be based on the timeframe and relativity of where they’d played before.

Febian Brandy had a brief spell at Ubon United after leaving us who ply their trade in the Thai 2nd Division.

Remarkably he’s also an international footballer, with 2 caps for St Kitts & Nevis.

I think he was Cornish

Best I can find on Slew is the fee was £800k so I guess that bit was upfront our former owner was remarkably candid when saying how much money the club received for players especially when it was less then the quoted figures ie the £1m for Mellis was actually £400k (from his mouth). AlSo Slew is an ideal subject for this topic as he is still only 28 whilst some of the others mentioned have continued to play football as they have grown old.
