Back from Norwich and it's no surprise to see that this forum is saturated with doom and gloom merchants . The blame culture is in full throttle and anyhing the club says or does is viewed cynically by some.

I don't see myself as a clapper or a slasher. I don't think the Board are perfect and I certainly think our team is below average.

Since the play off final defeat I have lost enthusiasm for the Blades but kept going to the home games and very few away.
However, this season,we are in difficulty,it is time to support the club and back the players at matches. We aren't doing well but I have now gone to twice as many away games as last season to support the club. And do you know what, after the 2nd half on Saturday and during today's game at Norwih,I finally saw a spark in The Blades which meant the identity of the team may be taking shape.

Today,we apparantly had no chance ,For the first 60 minutes we outpassed and outplayed Norwich and showed passion, winning tackles, playing it simple anddictating the games...yes that was us.

Great freekick from Reid gave us a deserved lead. Crap marking from Cresswell gave them their goal but heads didn't drop and the kept coming forward.

Our second was a 7-8 pass move, and a great finish. Norwich were rattled and we should have had a penalty when Ched was raped in the box just before half time.

We controlled the 2nd half up to the first 'penalty'...playing good simple football, winning tackles and creating chances...the dive from Holt changed the course of the game.

Even after this set back,we didn't play for a draw and were causing them problems....then the 2nd penalty was awarded(i think it was harsh but seen them given)

Heads didn't drop and they pushed forward and were denied a clear penalty(Norwich fans outside the ground as well as John Carver confirmed this). They got is on the break when their keeper made a good save from Ched.

We have a chance to get out of this mess and watching how the team played today made me identify with them for the first time this season. No it wasn't perfect but the performance was appreciated by the fans
.The fans. Good support today(600-700 i reckon),no player was booed when they made a mistake, indeed they were encouraged .

I don't do ratings but today,Nos(back to his standards at Forest),Quinn,Monty in particular played well today but i thought Reid was the best player on the pitch.

If we can keep Reid, get a really good centre half in(so Nos and Lowton can be the ful backs) and get Williamson back to 100% along with Hendo,,we should stay up.

If we play with that style and passion at Burnley(along with a good ref) we should get 3 points.

Stewards and Grant Holt...absolute twats

Despite the defeat,it felt I was starting to get my Blades back today

That's more like it. Good to get an honest view of someone who actually went to the game so thanks for that.

For others to suggest we're not even competitive players in this division is quite frankly ridiculous. We should have enough to stay midtable once the managerial situation is sorted.

Good to hear but it makes defeat seem a bit harder to take. Let's hope we get a change in fortune and confidence with a new manager.

UTB

Glad you enjoyed the day Barty. Everyone of us who reach rock bottom with the club will need some moment of inspiration like this to re-engage so irrespective of what others may think (ie me) kudos to you.

No offence and pleased to hear encouraging words from what seemed like a decent performance from those that went but we lost again (conceding more penalties- were all 11 not penalties, another red card etc), are managerless, right on the edge of the relegation places, are massively in debt and have a team full of loan players/players not good enough and no semblance of where the team/club is going?

What do you expect? Lots of happy fans! Seriously, it is difficult to keep being so positive about a board of directors that are systematically destroying the club. I wish I had your positivity I really do.

As for Saturday at Burnley hope we can get 3 points. Boy we need it but we do not have Montgomery, Bartley or Quinn now. Going to be a tough ask but we could put the final nail in Laws coffin which would be good!

Don't worry,DB. I'm getting mi kit out. 45 years old and 20 stone...I am the midfield !!!

Seriously I agree with alot of what you say but the last thing that the players need at the moment is the fans on their backs. They know we are in the brown stuff and they don't need us to tell them. The Board will do whatever they want(god forbid) and by all means we should question their actions. But for me,from now until the end of the season, provided the players play with the heart they showed today,I think the fans should back each player for the whole 90 minutes. No scape goats,no booing of individuals, just bacl them.

Idealistic I know

No I agree. The players have shown more passion in the last few games but have gone over the mark at times, Bartley and Quinn, spring to mind and this kind of illdiscipline could cost us badly.

I would never boo the team or get on their backs as frustrating as it is and as much as many of these players are not really going to be the future of the club (loans/1 year deals).

My gripe is with the board. The board's statements about not wanting a gnarled, old round the block veteran and wanting to change this philosophy is utter toish if Adams is appointed. Whatever you think of him; he is exactly the type of manager we said we would not go for. McCabe's words about loanees and how we would never go down that approach still stick with me. We have no identity to our side and whilst I will cheer whoever wears red and white but at the moment would like us to terminate the loans of the likes of Calve, Nosworthy and play the likes of Lowton, hell even Kozluk who actually might show some passion in the right way that you allude to in your post.

Kozzy gets some stick on here but in our current crisis,I feel he could do a good job for us at left back allowing Lowton to go to the right.

Could this be anything to do with a certain Mr Carver?

;)

Too coincide with what barty said about getting his blades back today i felt the exact same way after watching the second half of the hull city match. Now id not been too bramall lane in 15 yrs before boxing days clash (due to illness) but the first half astounded me. That wasnt the blades i knew and i started to regret id gone however the second half was differant and despite the defeat i came away with a smile on my face because the second half performance was exactley what i came too see

Cheers for your take on it Bart, everything sounded terribly harsh, but even if the "conspiracy" of referees is tosh, when you down that end of the table, you get no luck, and lets face we are out of luck at the minute.

Up The Blades!

To be honest I'm fucking fed up of being told to be delighted after we've conceded four. Apparently we were superb against Scunny, it's just that they scored four times and we scored not a one.

Ok, so we got some bad luck with a wrongly awarded penalty. Someone should tell the players they're not obliged to collapse when this happens. Abysmal defending, poor finish, and a total lack of professionalism and discipline, but hey, keep playing like that and we'll be fine.

Nobodys saying be delighted with it. All there saying is instead of looking for just negatives try looking for positives too while youre at it

We were shit out of luck yesterday, I have been to a few games at Norwich this year and seen some fucking tripe get 3 points there, i.e. Palace, Hull and Portsmouth.
We were miles better than those 3 yesterday and even the Norwich fans agreed, there was absolutely no way we deserved to leave with nothing!
In a way it was nice to see that battle royale at the end, at least we are getting some of that passion back again, though Quinny knocking someones teeth out is a bit far!

On replay it looked like Quinny hardly made contact?

On replay it looked like Quinny hardly made contact?

Gently brushed his face with his forehead. Nothing to it...

(I notice that like most of our games the penalty incident itself doesn't get shown on Sky. Is this standard by Sky if the decision was, shall we say, controvertial..?)

None of our penalty claims were shown either, says its own story really

On replay it looked like Quinny hardly made contact?

In real time from not very far away at all, there was daylight between them when he'd decided to grab his face and go down...

We were all going ballistic at the officials for falling for it, and the nob for faking it.

But not at Quinn for doing it?

I haven't seen the replays yet, so this might look daft when I watch it back...

But in real time, the worst I saw Quinny do was point his finger at the face of the bloke who'd just had a pop at him.... Clear daylight between his finger and the face, then he was evidently shot in the side of the face.

Fair enough then.

Speaking in generalities here, if you stick your head in or raise you hand to an opponent, you have to accept the risk of a red card, however much your opponent acts like a conniving twat.

Definately, to defend Quinny even further... the rest of our team were equally as riled and appalled at this stage, the ref is incredibly lucky that's all that happened.

No excuse for raising your arms or even for another ruck (2nd in two matches), but in real time, from our view... Quinny was incredibly unlucky to walk.

There were 2 sets of handbag incidents in the Hull game.

Symptomatic of what I've just put in another thread about lack of grace under pressure. All those daft red cards from players lashing out when times are tough! Unfogivable. (Again, generalities, not a comment on Quinn)

Looking at the highlights there were Norwich players dropping like flies all over the place at the slightest contact. The ref was well and truly conned by a bunch of divers. He lost the plot (as did Quinn). The swan dive for the first penalty was ridiculous, but Montgomery was out of position and was wrong to offer any sort of challenge in that area. The second hand ball was a def pen I thought, but just unlucky.

the ref ha an absolute shocker yesterday!!!! there 1st penalty holt dived and the 2nd the ball was blasted at bartley(have seen them given but still harsh).

towards the end of the game we should have had 2 penalties ourselves, the handball was worst than bartley's and one just before were ched turned and got clipped by defender just in box. he should have gone down instead of staying on his feet and taking the shot.

thought quinn was sent off for kicking out at holt(i think) just after the ball had gone out but after the minute or 2, the linesman and ref judged quinn to have thrown a punch. had he kept his temper the incident would have never happened.

we didn't deserve to leave there with nothing. the officals ruined the game, ref inconsistent, got most big decisions wrong, 1 linesman was flag crazy on ched the other needed to go to specsavers!!!!

Just watched the highlights and it shows Quinny doing even less than I saw real-time as there is no sign of him pointing the finger. It would appear he was sent off for having his head near someone who was shot in the face from the stands.

I'd perhaps understand if it was for the swinging foot (which I didn't notice at the match) after he'd been totalled by Holt, but it wasn't.

Hmm just watched the highlights myself. All I can say is the first penalty was never a penalty in a million years, the second, I can forgive the referee. But the red card was VERY harsh. All I can see from that was he maybe swung a leg out, the initial challenge from the Norwich lad was a little naughty in my opinion, however we can count ourselves lucky Reid wasn't sent off. Definite headbutt in there.
