Blades Make Scott Approach

What do people know about Andy Scott? Did anyone meet him when he was a Blade?

What is his personality like?
Was he well liked, respected?

I am not sure what my feelings would be if he got the job but it doesn't fill me with fear. Do Brentford play good football?

I wouldn't have thought the united job would be a wise career and life move for a man with a dodgy ticker!

Met him when I was 11 - got a tour of the club in the relegation season and still have the picture of me alongside Scott and Roger Nilsen. Seemed a friendly approachable guy.

I haven't seen his Brenford side play, but in terms of where he's taken them so far he seems to have done well for someone learning his trade. League 2 is where plenty of ex players have tried to start managerial careers and it hasn't quite worked out - Macca's a prime example.

I would be happy enough to see him join. Is Bob Booker one of his coaches?

Incidentally, the Brentford fans aren't buying that Donny Rovers statement either based on their messageboard.

I think Bob Booker is at Brighton and maybe just got married.
I have been looking at the Forum forum myself LB and it seems a bit of a mixed bag. Have a few people moaning that they don't play football and it's quite boring. I remember watching them against the pigs earlier in the season but I think they were bottom then and struggling.

Were Pemberton and Scott ever in the same squad? I think they may have been for at least one season; not sure if there is any relationship there.

I am still abit neither or there about Scott, however since the news earlier in the day about S'OD I have to admit I am not particularly too bothered if it's not for us. 85% think of us wanted him, however I am pretty sure that everyone one of us still having a little doubt about it, however faint it is

This. It's like considering marrying Penelope Cruz, knowing she can't cook and leaves her toenail cuttings on the arm of the sofa.

Scott emerged at the tail end of the 92/93 season, so he'd have been alongside Pembo then.

Some interesting fan comments from them. Scott is ambitious (a bit arrogant apparently) and a few months back quite a few were calling for him to go - he didn't, and they're now in decent form. One interesting comment was re: his contact - seems to be a 1 year rolling deal. I don't think they could expect much compensation if this is the case.

Well maybe a manager does need a little arrogance as long as the players believe in him, Jose isn't short I suppose. It troubles me that they don't play football considering that should be a major thing we are looking for

Yep I see it does a little. Are you totally sure he would be a success though?

Completely. I don't have a problem with that.

The suggestion that he plays people out of position and his teams don't score a lot of goals is an interesting bit of info...

Got to say I'd be massively underwhelmed if this turned out to be true. Not that I wouldn't give him a chance because I don't know enough about him not to. I'd just rather have Brown, O'Driscoll or Adams because I think they're more what we need now. All have experience of turning poor/average squads into successful ones in relative terms.

I nearly tripped him up when I was mascot for the Chelsea game in 1993. He kicked his ball to me as he ran out to warm up and I got a bit flustered and star struck and absolutely whacked it back at him, instead of just laying it off for him to run on to. He did well to control it! I'm still incredibly embarrassed remembering that 17 years later.

Hmm, plays a lot of hoof and prone to the occasional post match rant according to their fans.

To be honest, I'd be pretty disappointed with anyone but O'Driscoll now.

Was that the 4-2 goalfest at the end of the season in 1993, or the freezing 1-0 win in November ?

The freezing 1-0 win! The Dazzler informed me that the goal went down as an o.g. but for years I thought it was scored by Willie Falconer.

I was at the 4-2 goalfest as well, but not as a mascot. Andy Scott scored that day, didn't he? In fact he might have got 2?

I think he did yes. We were 4-0 up quite quickly.

I was a VIP for the 1-0 win so our paths may have crossed, I was certainly sitting near the mascots in the Family Enclosure that day, when it used to be the end of the South Stand. The players I got to meet that day other than Scott & Nilsen were Alan Kelly and captain Carl Bradshaw. I was gutted that Jostein Flo was injured and not at the ground - I'm pretty sure Mick Rooker said that he was off Christmas shopping in Meadowhall. Top day regardless.

I would have been 11 as well. It was a late birthday present.

You might be disappointed to hear that I actually got to meet Flo briefly and get a picture, because he came to the ground early in the day. Didn't know he'd gone shopping after though!

At the end of the 4-2 there was a very good spirited pitch invasion. I joined in and ended up sitting in the Blades dugout watching all the friendly chaos. A cracking game.

Cheap option yet again no doubt a yes man who will never get a job offer like this in his life. I am guessing SoD wanted a bit of cash for new players which united won't give.

Cheap Option ? Yes Man ? You know more about Andy Scott than everyone else then. The club are following a process to interview candidates . No one has been appointed. What is the problem? This is the process that alot of fans on here were crying out for.

You guessing SOD wanted cash? That's right a 'guess'. Well guess what, according to many on here we haven't got any cash anyway so if that was a condition requested by him he wouldn't get the job anyway.

How do you know we have interviewed SOD ? John Ryan and SOD appear to be saying mixed things. SUFC have said nothing(and rightly so)

I will make a 'guess ' now....you are looking for the slightest thing to beat the club up about....

Who is your option for manager ? I'd prefer Adams. Not too fussed about SOD as my worry he will get us relegated. However, wouldn't both of these be the cheap option as they aren't 'top ' manager ? You seem to be able to critisize but not offer alternatives.

A very close friend of mine runs the Brentford Website and i have attended quite a few Brentford games with him (mostly when they venture to this neck of the woods).

From what i have gauged from him and those who attend the games with him, they do not hold Andy Scott in particularly high regard but are content with the job he is doing. I dare say his departure would be greeted by their fans with the kind of apathy shown by many of the blades fans i know when Gary Speed left our club.

Juding the style of play based purely on away games would be harsh, especially given one of those games was against Leeds but it was typical league 1 fayre. Lots of long balls and physical play. Even when they were riding high in league 2 they were not playing much football according to the same collection of fans (i watched them play out a particularly dyer 0-0 against Rotherham at the DVS).

Brentford are a club who exist on a shoestring budget and have done well based on this fact over the past couple of seasons.

I don't see how Andy Scott meets the other criteria for the new manager set out by Trevor Birch a few weeks ago but i do think he would make a good assisstant or senior coach to work alongside a more experienced manager.

The only time I've seen Brentford play was on telly against the pigs earler this season. Thought they were fast, strong and direct...better than the opposition that day anyway which was good

The trouble Birch has is that if he cannot find the right man with championship experience(club won't release him, manager not want the job),he will have no option but to look lower down the pecking order for which he will be roundly critisized if the man man doesn't fit exactly the criteria Birch set even thouh he had no option.

It might come down to two choices(i hope not) Carver or Scott

Wouldn't surprise me if we get Carver until the end of the season whilst we are trying to find "The Man". That wouldn't be a bad option as long as in the end, we do get "The Right Man"

As to who the right man is - maybe SO'D would be a contender at the the end of the season but not now.

It's not a question of won't. It's a question of can't. We don't have any money. Unlike when your mum tells you that you can't have any sweeties cos she's skint, the club genuinely don't have the cash to splash.

Accept the fact then accept that the so called cheap option is the only option open to us. That way you'll be less disappointed when the inevitable happens and we appoint someone you don;t like and don't spend millions that we don't have.

Who's yer favourite then,BOS ?

What if the work Pembo is doing at the academy if valued by the club higher than we fans realise and Pembo himself is having a big say on who he could work with or not.

Scott being an ex team mate could be high on Pembo’s list whilst he might not know SOD from Adam and could feel that bringing him in could cost him his job and hence not push for him?
