My hooves may be cloven, but I'll defend Wilder nonetheless. What would it take for him to prosper in the PL? Firstly, players which are good enough. Then he'd want team players, no egos, lads whose heads don't drop in adversity. Basically, what he had en route to the PL. But that situation was always going to be a difficult task at this level. The first problem is that age-old one where Sheffield football is concerned, namely money, or a lack of it. You cannot get value-for-money players in this country who can play at this level, so you have to be able to use the foreign market. There really is no alternative for the vast majority of PL clubs. It's probably no exaggeration to say that a club's knowledge of the foreign leagues and players is as important as the identity of the manager. It was Wilder's in-depth knowledge of the lower leagues that got the club to where it is, but it's his lack of knowledge about players overseas which is IMO causing the problems and blighting recruitment. That situation has to change pronto. Then you've got the conundrum of the changing of the guard. Because these new lads will be on sizeable wages, and for all we know egos to match. That doesn't do a deal for team spirit, but it's all the worse when the high-earning newcomers don't seem to the old guard to be any better than they are. So the problem for me is not Wilder the manager. If he can replicate the situation he had prior to the PL, then I think United will do well. But he definitely needs help with recruitment, and frankly it's the chairman's job to make sure that the necessary networks overseas are put in place.

If he acknowledges that things have ended and that we need to at least attempt new things then keep him and rebuild.

If we continue this insipid nonsense with multiple players out of position or being asked to do things they aren't capable of in the name of 'the syatem' then he'll not make it till the end of the season

I just want to see something to make me feel like Wilder is fighting to keep his job and stay in this division. I want to look at the team selection and get a boost because Wilder is going for it, rather than the same failing system and line up.

I know we've not got the players that will suit a different system, but we're desperate, just try something different! It might well fail, but at the moment I'm 100% certain our current system will fail again.

The thing is it is not just about results let's all think back to the direction the club was going four to five years ago. It was much more likely we would have been having another stint in the fourth tier than getting back into the Championship, we were selling any half decent prospects for a pittance and making club staff redundant to save costs.
I'm not saying CW has not made errors but he is a footballing man who knows the game from the bottom up, every club he has been at have been left in a better state than when he started with them and we are no different. Since walking into Bramall lane he has transformed the club we no longer need to sell players to pay the leccy bill, we are upgrading the stadium and training facilities to top level standards and most of all we have players of value again. Even if we are relegated this season the club is still moving forwards and improving. Like it or not we should be doing what Norwich are doing and stick with the manager don't forget Wilder is still learning at this level and there is more to come from him, much more. You don't just bin off a bloke with a 50% win ratio because we lose nine games at the start of the season those that want rid are looking at results not the bigger picture.

I agree that we need to look at the big picture and if Wilder is the best man in the long term we should 100% stuck with him, the issue for me is that a fair few seem to think that promotion from the Championship will be a piece of piss so relegation shouldn't be feared.

The big picture for me is that we need to stay up at all costs, if Wilder needs to go for that to happen then it's what unfortunately has to happen. It took 12 seasons to be promoted after each of the relegations in 94 and 07, we can't just give up our place easily because it might take even longer to get back up next time.

So who can we bring in tomorrow who would do better ?

Have no doubt that should CW leave, the club will collapse like a deck of cards. The whole team, apart from possibly one (mention no name) would run through brick walls for Wilder and we have more chance of JOC, Egan, Fleck, Bash, Rammers and even Berge staying even if the worst case happens and we get relegated. Without Chris I can't see much loyalty to the club from these type of players.

You Wilder out merchants are an embarrassment to Sheffield
It's all relative , look at the arsenal fans a few years ago wanting Wenger out because they were no longer challenging for the title when they rightly or wrongly perceived they should be, and his signings , tactics and stubbornness were all questioned , arguably it was a much longer decline at arsenal but still he was questioned and it divided the fans and he had a hell of a lot more kudos than Wilder has

I don’t honestly know, but that doesn’t mean we should stick with what we’ve got just in case no one better is out there.

At the moment we look dead and buried, if push comes to shove I’d rather roll the dice with a new manager than accept relegation. That’s just my mindset, I thought Leicester were right to sack Ranieri even without the benefit of hindsight. Doesn’t mean I don’t have huge respect for what Wilder has achieved, the club just comes before any individual and I want us to do what is best for the club.

That’s what’s most heartbreaking for me. I want him to be blades manager for a decade, but he won’t be if he is incapable of correcting such rudimentary errors. We don’t have any kind of plan B but more so, I cannot understand why, after such a dismal run, he hasn’t even remotely tried something, anything different.
