Ramsdale 8
Made some good saves in difficult conditions loses half a mark for the Kamikazi run outside the box much like the one the previous week but he did redeem his error. MOTM
Baldock 5
Given a torrid time by Sterling but still managed to get forward at times, loses marks for messing about and not getting the cross in when he had the opportunity. When he did cross deary me George the pitch isn't 100 yards wide.
Basham 6
Average by his standards looked like Bambi on ice a couple of times.
Egan 7
Solid game made some good tackles and interceptions.
Stevens 7
I thought he had a decent game today much better than his usual this season.
Lowe 6
Average some good bits some bad but only his 2nd start at this level.
Ampadu 5
As good as he was last week he was poor today gave the ball away time after time.
Berge 7
Difficult game for him considering the rest of the midfield around him. Looks to be the only one who can play at this level with any consistency. The only player who can go round a man and put a decent cross in, once or twice a game is not enough though.
Osborn 4
Good last week anonymous today, not good enough for starting games long term, back up seems his level.
McBurnie 7
I know (tin hat time) won a lot of headers not really his fault if his strike partner or midfielders don't get close to him. I feel sorry for our front two whoever they are as they get no service while we fuck about out wide and don't get the crosses into the box.
Brewster 6
Bang average you can see he has not played much football recently, looked a bit weak but he is young. Got behind the City defence but fluffed his lines it was a very close offside call though. He will get better after a few more games hard to be thrown in against the best two teams in England.

Subs,
Lundstram 4
Two meaningful touches and both into row Z of the kop the sooner he is gone the better.
McGoldrick 6
Did nothing to change things
Norwood 6
Better than Ampadu but did nothing to change things.

Brewster 6....he did absolutely nothing the entire game...no runs in behind, no runs down the channel, hung around the centre circle all game and the one chance he got he missed (cant remember if he was offside or not).
I'm not going to mark him down because of his price tag, he was just offside but did miss the chance. Like McBurnie no service what so ever today, I don't think we can moan at the front two too much today.

You mean where he was a mile offside and then tried to chip the keeper with about as much conviction as a quadriplegic?
No that must have been a different one. I mean the one where he was about 6 inches offside.

Compared to the 3mm Lunnys toe was off v Spurs, 6" is miles.

I actually thought Baldock played quite well today to say he was up against Sterling who was awesome at times. Crossing was piss poor tho.
I’ve been saying for some time that Berge needs to get a grip of the game and start to be our main man. He’s certainly good enough. Even against very good players he looks their equal. McB is just not good enough even though it must have been so frustrating for him and Brewster today.
The ‘overlapping centre backs’ are no more and 3-5-2 is not right for us at the moment.

Think it's way too early to judge Brewster, OK he was off side and chose the wrong option, but I think in that one darting run he showed promise and given the chance and the right service may well develop into the kind of striker we need. He has a fair turn of speed and could be a big asset, but he is definitely going to need time to settle in.
The game it's self , I thought overall we played well in defence and were unlucky to lose, but we were woeful down the wings where even when they had the chance they were far to hesitant to cross the ball into the box .....
For us a good defensive game but a really frustrating attacking performance.... :tumbleweed:

I'm not sure i see this great defensive performance. If City can shoot and Ramsdale does not play well - it's a 4 or 5-0 defeat. They got through us time after time and had so many chances from start to finish. It was the same last home game when if Fulham finish then they win the game too.

I am not sure how we can say we were unlucky to lose? I thought we were lucky to only lose 1-0 on possession, chances and overall ability/play shown from the two sides.

Lot of "IF's" there Batty ,Sterling apart we handled them well, and It took Walker from outside the box with a miss hit daisy cutter for them to score...

It’s a difficult one is this.

YES - City beat us at a canter.

YES - There is an obvious gulf in class.

But — it was a 1-0 defeat to one of the most expensively assembled club sides in Europe. A 1 goal defeat preceded this away at last years runaway champions.

Ive been quick to pick up on what I perceive to be inherent weaknesses with the gaffers thinking. This time I feel I must leap to his defence.

He is CORRECT to state that it is difficult against certain opposition to “open up”. They would crucify us. Wilder is right. It’s not the right time or the place to do this. As a consequence in 45 games back in the big league, no one has given us the tonking so widely expected by most of us.

A certain amount of credit must therefore by awarded. We have had a poor start but also against many of this seasons better sides.

An uptick in performance levels is required, but there are more important fish to fry than the Liverpool’s and Man City’s of this world 😀.

Sorry Deadbat but that is complete bollocks.

When do the anti depressants kick in ?

Sadly Sander is now really looking a class above his mediocre team mates. It might not have been the case when he arrived, but I think he’s now playing for his Premier league future away from SUFC.
At least we know his best position for us is RCM which means Lunny can go do one.

Question is who's better (least worst?) in the centre... Norwood or Ampadu...

Or we could go back to playing a number 10 and not play either of them

Sorry Deadbat but that is complete bollocks.

Care to qualify it with any reasoning?

They had 16 shots and 8 on target. That is a hell of a lot for an away side. They did not go more than 5-10 minutes without Ramsdale making a save and got through us constantly. It should have been 1-0 long before it was and it was coming for some time. Egan did well for us but the rest of the defence got beat time after time individually and collectively with no midfield protection at all. Granted Sterling De Bruyne are fantastic but they did not do that to West Ham, Leeds or Leicester.

If Mitrovic takes 3 golden chances we lost to Fulham too. They were all better chances than anything we created in the same game.

I agree to some extent but in many of the other games we have been the same. This notion it will all turn around when we play some of the weaker teams concerns me.

Also, not sure what the difference is between losing 2-3-0 and 1-0. I would rather die trying than not trying at all. The last spell where we had it and did not get it forward or get the ball in the box i would have been going mad at any other team no matter who they were playing so have to say the same about us.

City have been struggling against some quite average teams.

No issues with losing 1-0 against some great players at all but it was the way we limply slinked out of the door.Wilder always says he wants us to go out of the front door but today I felt we just hung around the kitchen and then left without even shutting the back door - noone even knew we had gone!

We're not playing well just now, admitted. but to lose 1-0 to Man City even if we were playing well is hardly a poor result.....

Dont agree with you on Baldock at least a 6+ he kept Sterling quiet for some of the 2nd half and did some important headers/tackles. 4 points dropped due to awful crossing or should I say pass pass dribble pass (shall I cross it?) pass pass lost it.

Basham comment very funny and probably about right.

Thought McBurnie played well he came back in defence a few times just had no service. He doesnt create his own chances just needs service. Berge best buy of the crop with Ramsdale second. Brewster too early to say.

1-0 loss almost feels like a well done.

Yeah granted, but the only reason we aren’t at the bottom of league is the dogged way we keep our defeats low scoring ones. But it’s not a very aspirational way of playing football is it?
