My first wife’s friend at textile college designed that shirt. I blagged one for free and many years later swapped it for a shirt from a Polish League 1 team (I was a guest of honour at the game and took the Blades shirt as a gift).

The shirts were manufactured mainly in Morocco & from memory some in Sri Lanka could explain certain inconsistencies with quality

What I stated could happen in Morocco or Ceylon they are still human after all or are you thinking differently.
Believe the shirt is a one off.

I certainly was under the impression that Bassett designed it, but maybe he used the same self publicist as Warnock!?

No, I was concurring with your comments, AVEC was a division of Claremont Garments which at that time was predominantly a UK based clothing manufacturer with the exception of AVEC which had its garments manufactured abroad hence the possibility of quality inconsistencies.

This one's on ebay at the moment, it features gold stitching around the badge. The stitching on mine and every other that I've seen is always red.

What's the story? Was this a special end of season commemorative release to celebrate our glorious 9th place finish in the 2nd tier?

Any ideas?

The biggest problem was that the parallelograms were the wrong way round. It made the shirt look more "hooped" than "striped". If they were rotated 90degs, the shirt would have looked better. The red sections would then have kinda represented stripes

Actually wore this shirt just last week. It is definitely the worst Blades shirt home ever, but that makes it a classic to have also! I think we've had a few close contenders though for bad home shirts, a few under Adidas also I may add.

Dave Bassett said that we didn't 'have to always play in stripes'.
