Criminally underrated retro classic!

This one's on ebay at the moment, it features gold stitching around the badge. The stitching on mine and every other that I've seen is always red.

What's the story? Was this a special end of season commemorative release to celebrate our glorious 9th place finish in the 2nd tier?

Any ideas?

Its possible the stiching just got bleached or washed out I've seen it on other bits before. I for one love it.

It's such a polarising shirt most people missed the point of the OP!

I thought that was a bit of an urban myth? I heard he was given 4 designs on his desk and blindly said "yeah that one will do"?

As for the gold badge, it happened to mine.

There could be several with gold stitching or it maybe a one off. If a badge machinist ran out of black thread, they were getting ready to finish for the day and there was a machine set up with gold thread, could have knocked them off to complete there bin(quota) and got off home. It happens, our Gert was in that line of work many moons ago.
Would have bought it if it had been M or L even with the hole, gold stitching looks genuine but the price seems a little steep, £50 would have been more the mark.
Prices have gone through the roof recently. Not so bad if it's a genuine seller trying to boost their depleted income because of covid but there are always the sharks circling in such situations.

My first wife’s friend at textile college designed that shirt. I blagged one for free and many years later swapped it for a shirt from a Polish League 1 team (I was a guest of honour at the game and took the Blades shirt as a gift).

It was the first Blades shirt I was bought, so I have always liked it but more for the sentimental value.

I do remember asking my parents at the time why it isn't red and white stripes though.
