No while ever Sky and BT are involved. They have too much influence over television rights at the moment and intend to take a cut of up to £100k per game a fact conveniently missing from yesterdays public announcements about money going direct to teams.

No decision has yet been reached by the EPL as to how the remaining money is to be divided up so we don't know how much of a direct benefit this will be to SUFC. If the reaction in the last 24 hours is a barometer of potential take up then it doesn't look like a profitable venture for the Club.

The top six have prevented other clubs wanting to set up their own direct TV service for season ticket holders no doubt kissing Sky and BT's arse at the same time. I'd happily pay £10 a game if SUFC were in complete control as I did for the friendly games. Disappointed the Club did not vote against this with Leicester I can only presume the logistics of setting up this service was not financially viable in the current climate.

Whats bring reported is the fact that broadcasters aren’t making any profit and will only take out their costs. No one listening to it though and are just making up their own version of the truth.

and there you have it, the death knell for the smaller clubs. If this is cut and only given to the clubs based on demand then it’s the start of the end for the collective bargaining. This needs to be centrally collected and redistributed as the TV rights are now.
The smaller clubs needs to be smarter than this and not let their greed blind them to where they’re being led.
If they set up a streaming service then the big clubs clear up, however the league collectively make more money by having the broadcasters bid against each other. It’s worth more to them than just the money they get per match.
 
£15 is too steep imo. Particularly as its a lottery for who is selected for coverage and who isn't. £8-£10 would have been fair as it takes the piss a bit when people pay £100 on various subscriptions as it is

reason...I’m not enjoying the football anyway, and that’s been the case since lockdown ended never mind since we have struggled.
I always watched other matches before but without the fans in there’s just no point. Games just feel like a training game and the little bit of interest I had watching other sides has gone. It feels artificial, it’s becoming like F1 where the best sides can assemble the expensive players and without the pressure of opposing fans or their own can just stick them together.

Cricket has been the same, it’s just lost without any reason to play for.

The £15....apparently that’s only going to affect those just with BT, not those with the full sky sport package. They’ve had lots of calls today from folk to cancel and it seems the press regarding the charge isn’t being portrayed as it should.
But if you’re a sky sports customer I was told nothing will change.
I still cancelled...will see if I miss it enough to add it again.
 
Think this will backfire on Sky, with people cancelling their SS subscription and just paying to watch their own teams. They will counter that by not making ‘regular’ games available on PPV, so supporters of the big clubs will benefit again - most games on Sky, so less extra to pay. They ought to be made to show the same number of each team’s games over the season to make it fair.
 
Seen a good idea further up....TV season ticket.
Sky could reduce their sports package by say....£10 a month if you elect a tv season ticket for a specific club. Then charge extra for the ST. As it’s for home and away games you pay the most expensive ST price at your chosen club and all proceeds go directly to that club.
Be interesting to see how that would affect the big clubs. Might see a fairer distribution of tv money?
 
I understand that a lot of people think its steep and £14.95 is high but ....... Given that a group of people (no more than 6 at the moment ha ha) can get together to watch it then it's not bad.
I would have paid for 2 tickets to every match so that myself and daughter can watch so would have paid around £30 away ticket and mine a concession say of £15 so £45 in total whereas we can both watch for £14.95. BUT its not the same as being there is it?

Yes I agree about that - they should make sure every team is shown the same number of games on TV or its discrimination against supporters of the lesser teams like us !
 
Yes, I’ve not bought my season ticket so I’ve got the spare cash. Plus I’ll watch it with a mate so I’m only going to pay £7.50 anyway.

Even if every match is now on PPV (it won’t) it will still work out far cheaper for me than a season ticket and away tickets.
 



I’ll pay cos I’m lucky enough to be able to afford it and, living in deepest Kent, I can’t always get to games. So watching on TV is fine by me.

I don’t think it’ll be too long before the PL decide to run the whole shebang themselves and cut out both Sky and BT.
 
I don’t think comparing the £15 to a matchday ticket price is a worthy comparison. Paying for your seat and being able to attend - compared to paying for a feed of it in your home seems like apples and oranges.

It’s tough, as the club needs to fill big gaps in its revenue, but this doesn’t feel like the right way to go about it
 
No. It’s the thin edge of the wedge. In the post hillsborough premier league working class fans have been priced out of the game. How many of the 96, had they survived, could afford to attend games now? Not many. That’s the football epitaph to the disaster.
COVID will be the catalyst for stage two. Staggered kick off times for a global audience. A premier league game to kick off at 10pm to catch the US markets or 7am for the far east. Or as has been suggested in Spain games actually played abroad ‘x’ time per year.
Gate receipts are incidental to the big players in this country. PPV will help global marketing and assets massively in the markets that matter.
I wonder how many more games I’ll attend with my dad and children as we used to? Three generations denied of what we, and us all, love more than anything else. It’s so sad.
Pay for ppv now and we’ll truly pay as fans in the long run.

The problem is, I honestly can not think of any other way they can increase revenue revenue right now.
 
Nothing is better than being there not living in sheffield it's a nights stay in a hotel meal etc so in fairness £7.50each isn't a bad deal
Can't wait to be allowed in again
 
My only issue with this is that it could be a gateway for further radical reform.

Sky reducing their offerings to subscribers in lieu of increasing their ppv outputs.

A ban on away supporters from games.

I get all the blades games anyway but I think I'm going to get sky cut off and get IPTV instead
 
Seems to me after listening to a lot of comments....charge £14.95 and most fans will not pay it and will find alternative ways to watch....Charge £5 and almost everyone would pay it...Its a no brainer clubs. charge less more revenue...charge £14.95 and you will get a lot less
 



Don't see what the problem is - no one makes you pay it - it's not compulsory! It's an option for some as are illegal feeds for others and it's not as if it's £14.95 per Person it's £14.95 for the maximum 6 meeting in a house hold which seems good value....it's £2.50 each.

No one is paying season ticket money and it's a way that some fans can see their team play.

Jeez.....no one can do anything these days without some people having a fucking moan.
