4th May 1990.

Remember not being old enough to attend the match, so ended up listening it to my cousin on BBC Radio Sheffield whilst playing snooker on a 6 foot table in the garage. I was 12 at the time, and a young Unitedite living in the Wednesday stronghold of Chapeltown. I can still remember that afternoon having the double joy of a Pig relegation, although it was a close run thing as Bob Jackson nearly had a nervous breakdown as news of a hoax goal rang round Hillsborough, and BBC Radio Sheffield desperately tried to confirm it.

I remember a bit later i went up to the Acorn bus stop with my cousin to taunt the returning Wednesdayites, and getting chased down Burncross Road!

Best day of my life. Don't tell the wife!
I have about 20 minutes of the highlights of this on VHS which I was in the process of converting to DVD when my brand new DVD recorder decided it didn't want to work anymore. It is winging its way back to LG as I type. When the replacement arrives, burning will recommence and four hours of Blades bliss will be ready to be watched with copious amounts of alcohol
On the tape is also some more highlights of the same season and the entire United documentary that was on BBC 2 at the time.

Good times! This was when it felt good to be a Blade and the players would smash through a brick wall for the cause.

Funny to think that such an effective organiser and motivator could deliver such an awful half-time team talk. Maybe that just means I haven't a clue about what makes a good team talk, but I kind of doubt that confusion and argument between back-room staff are essential parts of the mix...

Did we really sing "you'll never walk alone"? I was only 12 at the time, but I don't remember that.

Also - Leicester have been playing that hunting music when the teams run out for a hell of a long time.... always strikes me as odd - they're the foxes, so they play hunting music...?

Overall though, the whole thing reminds me of the atmosphere around supporting United at that time. It's an atmosphere of defiance and pride which is difficult to recreate when you're a 'big money' team compared to the teams around you - there's too much expectation and too much of a need for someone to blame when we don't win. Maybe now that we're poor again we'll see a bit of that atmosphere return!

Was in London that weekend My wife's birthday treat - DIDNT STOP ME COMING UP TO THE GAME THOUGH. What a brilliant day. still got two of those shirts they were our best ever.
a great chunk of Leicester turf in the garden as well although its fully grown in now.

I was brought up in Chap as was my wife and we were two of only a handful of Blades at Ecco School. On that blissful day around the time I guess Brownie was being chased up Burncross road I was driving through Chap with all scarves out and a Blades flag. We stopped outside the Coach and Horses - big Wednesday pub with lots sitting outside to laugh at them before bravely driving off with them in pusuit on foot and throwing beer glasses. Trouble was, there was a pedestrian crossing about 70 yards down the road and someone i recognised as a friend of my Dads stepped off the pavement.. I can still see the contorted faces of blue and white hate gaining ground on us as Mr Elliot slowly crossed the road. I was 15, and relatively sober (I wasn't later that day!), and I don't remember that either.

Leicestershire has a long tradition of fox hunting, the Quorn Hunt being one of the oldest in the country.

I remember it well. What a great day to share with my son. We needed to win to gain promotion but went behind early doors. One of the best comebacks ever to win causing the fancy dress brigade to invade the pitch, mobbing Lord Harry Basset. If that wasn't good enough, there was a second similar pitch invasion when the score from Pigboro' confirmed "the pork's" relegation. We even managed to enjoy Radio Sheffield's P & G on our AM car radio to help to savour the moment.

The very best day in over 50 years of watching the red and white wizards without a doubt.

How I wish days like that would return for my grandson's sake

P.S. If anyone had the Luton scorers @ Derby on that wonderful day in May - these would be good as back up ammunition!
