The fans today........

I cannot believe people are having a go at the fans. All things considered, they (we) have been excellent. We are frustrated & fed up - with good reason. McCabe has spent the last few years selling all our best players and releasing virtually no money to buy replacements - despite the millions raised by the transfers themselves, the Tevez millions, Premiership money & parachute payments. He rarely attends games and his lack of communication with us fans is a disgrace. Many of the players are simply not good enough and - worse than that - don't give 100%. Speed says they always give 100% - do they fxxx - 2nd to too many balls, not taking responsibility, hiding on the fringes of the game - that isn't giving 100%.

Blame McCabe, blame the players, even Speed himself deserves some blame for being too negative and sticking with the same crap week in, week out - but don't blame the fans.

If some fans were to boo me for 90 mins constantly EVERY day for 4 or 5 grand a week i think i might be able to put up with it. In fact i would let them throw shit at me as well for the money them wankers are on.
But on a serious note i think these fans should do what i do. DONT FUCKING GO ANYMORE AND WATCH THE OVERPAID WANKERS.

I completely agree.

If I was on the money they're on I'd feel embarrassed and ashamed of myself if I wasn't busting a bollock to try my absolute best for every single second of the match.

Quinn must get tired after 30 seconds. He is a little boy in the playground, watching the big lads play. He is a non-participating lightweight. He is also a cheat - just like Evans. They feign half-hearted challenges and desultory leaps, knowing they aren't going to win the ball but trying to give the illusion of commitment. They go through the motions, hoping we won't notice - but some of us do. That's why Quinn was fiercely and rightly bollocked by someone on the Kop for a shameful lack of effort in the second half, as he once again allowed a better player to skip away from him and bear down on our overworked defence, as our hero stood still: a flat-footed, embarrassed, out-of-his depth observer.

The sad part is that some of you think we should encourage the likes of Quinn, Montgomery and Cresswell [to name but 3 of the worst of an appalling crew] to drag us down the Football League. At the moment, and I hate to say it, nor will I join them, the boo-boys have got it spot-on. The club needs to know that we will not go gently into that good night!

You have a choice. If you dont like watching it dont go! I can honestly say I dont get wound up enough about it to start berating players. Its football; and if you're crap, you're crap. You can put it down to lack of effort/ lack of intelligence/ lack of commitment all you want. You can pull it left and right, forwards and back by coming up with all sorts of reasons.....but when things arent going right you can bet that 99% of the time it's because you're not good enough.

THAT cannot be solved by screaming abuse or by any other remedy. If as a team we are not good enough, then nothing in-house can fix it. I've accepted it and I simply hope that someone or something will come along to make changes. If the performances continue and we end up in the third tier I will not be paying these prices to watch it.....not a fucking chance! That's my choice and as I said earlier, you and everyone else has theirs.

Why shout abuse and why let it torment you? The players wont be losing sleep over our poor depressed supporters. It doesnt matter if we protest and it doesnt matter if we bang on the boardroom doors until they open.....the directors will do it their way and will make empty promises along the way (they always do) so either accept it and go along for the ride or walk away. No one can blame you for doing either.

"Never in the game of football was so little done by so many players for so many fans ",

"we shall never fight on the fields at BDTBL, we shall never fight at an away game; we will always surrender".

I can understand frustration and disappointment but there seem to be a growing number on here who hate Sheffield United and the players.

Its quite the opposite in fact. Some of the most visceral reactions come from people who love the club most. They see it all going to shit (we will be Division 3 next season) and they are utterly powerless to do anything about it.

Its a thin line between love and hate as the old song goes...

Totally agree Walthy! I've been making a similar point for some time now but you said it better. It is those posters that hurt the most when United lose and there is absolutely nothing wrong with being a bad loser (within reason).....I've always believed that.

I used to react very angrily all the time when things weren't going our way but all the disappointment down the years has beaten that fervor out of me now. I just sigh and shrug my shoulders in disappointment a lot of the time.

It's also not difficult to understand that your average fan (especially the passionate ones) look at players performing poorly on massive salaries with utter contempt.

The only reason McCabe is getting off relatively scot free is Wednesday are currently doing even worse.
If they'd been challenging at the top of the Championship or even in the Prem, there would have been blood on the carpet by now.

Really?

His predecessors survived many years of shady dealings and footballing failure while Wendy sunned themselves at the top.

Yes, really.
We previously spawned the biggest independent fans group of its time to get Brearley out which include fans actually going to his house (to deliver Christmas cards if I remember correctly).
I don't doubt there'd be a completely different atmosphere if they were doing better.
At the same time, it would also mean a great deal more passion in the stands and potentially more passion on the pitch.

IMO the reason why we aren't scoring goals is because the strikers are not busting a gut to get into positions from crosses which give them a better opportunity of scoring. For example there were numerous occasions on Saturday when the ball was being played into the box and either cresswell, ward or evans were not trying to get in front of their man. Instead they are waiting for the ball to just drop on their heads or to their feet.
Another reason is that when we have the ball in midfield, the strikers are not coming short for the ball to feet into the gap between the opposition's defence and midfield. This is allowing opposition defenders to form a solid line and keep us out easily. It's simple things like this which is why we are getting beaten by teams who are not as good as us.
One more point is nick montgomery. How on earth did he become a professional footballer when he can't kick the ball where he wants it to go?

It's not the main reason why we're rubbish, but it certainly doesn't help. Berating the players during the match has never and will never lead to improvements. Seriously it doesn't matter how much they're paid, having 20,000 people telling you you're crap never works as a motivational tool. Time after time last season the manager and the players were saying it was affecting them, but it didn't stop people from doing it.

I can fully understand people getting frustrated and voicing their negativity, you've paid your money so you have earned your right, but then don't be surprised when the players get worse not better.

I don't advocate cheering them just for the hell of it either, but it does make the whole match day experience far better all round when the cheering outweighs the jeering (see what I did there). Life is miserable enough as it is, without carrying on when you're down the Lane.

So knowing that booing makes things worse, not better, will people stop? I very much doubt it.
