End up getting reviewed for so long by VAR for what was a straightforward penalty? Why did it take so long? It was as though they were looking for a reason not to give it.

Double jeopardy rule. Means you can’t be punished twice for the same thing - penalty but no sending off

I don't normally like the chip-on-the-shoulder comments about bias or about how we get treated worse than "big" clubs (however you want to define big, neutrals wouldn't usually use that word to describe us). BUT... the two major incidents in this game would have been dealt with differently if it was one of the big six established PL clubs.
VAR took a ridiculously long time trying to overturn the penalty. It was given on field and if it wasn't clearly a wrong decision then VAR shouldn't overturn it.
And that would never have been a red if the defender had been a Liverpool or Man Utd player.

Yes, anyone would fall over for no reason with the ball at their feet six yards out in the centre of the goal with a review to come even if you miss. FFS.

The delay doesn't benefit the taker either by the way.

i don't know why tripping someone running clear into the six yard box is not a clear goalscoring opportunity but grappling chasing along punt op field that the goal keeper was probably getting to first is. Targett did not try to play the ball.
Egan was holding the player, but how anyone can say he had the ball under control and was in on goal is a mystery. I am sure that they will make summat up. I look forward to seeing how many times similar incidents receive a red.
Maybe when Watkins put his arm across him, Egan should have gone down like a sack of shit screaming. It seemed to work for the Villa often enough.
