They want £20m, we already spent that on Berge.

Are we serious about being EPL big players or are we preparing for the EFL?
Does being serious mean spending money you can't pay back ?
Isn't that being stupid ?

No way are we having the same defensive record this season. The defence/keeper kept us winning 1-0/2-1 etc. Different season.
This is probably true. But doesn't mean we're preparing for relegation if we don't sign another 20mill player.

But even IF we got relegated, you do know we get £100 m in parachute payments?

Surely it’s better to speculate now in order to retain Premier League status, particularly when our bonus related pay structure means that we probably wouldn’t be reliant on PP in order to continue to pay inflated Premier League wages in the EFL, should relegation happen?

Does it have to be that drastic? We finished 9th without Buendia or Brewster etc...! It'd be a big surprise if we went down this season.
No it wouldn’t. Lots of teams were weak last season during transitions eg Everton, Man Utd others were capped due to outlays off the pitch eg Spurs, West Ham there are no Norwich teams planning to go straight down and smaller teams are getting weeded out like Bournemouth, Brighton and the over performers like Burnley and us are at risk.
Promoted teams are strong and seem to be spending to improve. If we don’t bring in quality to support and replace grafters that no one can deny have done a great job we will be one of the relegation league this season.
I think the fans and the board are relying on CWAK too much, he’s worked miracles so far and it’s appreciated but ever they can’t keep it up as everyone else strengthens. We are weaker in the first 11, not much but Rammers has to bridge a big gap and the other signings do not strengthen the first Xl just the backup cause we were lucky with injuries and suspensions last season.
Wilder might be perceived (rightly so) as out messiah but he can’t feed 5,000 with crumbs and it takes wealthy owners as well as a good management team to have a have a successful PL club, it’s elite. No issues with HRH he’s come through in difficult circumstances but if he can’t fund what he’s created we will struggle to survive this campaign imo.

It is stupid if we live beyond our means but just as stupid to expect to better last season with the first Xl we had last season (minus Hendo, no disrespect to Rammers). If we can’t pay it’s unlikely we’ll stay!

Not preparing to be relegated but it’s more likely than Europe unless Wilder pulls another rabbit trick.

It was interesting hearing the prince say that if we stay in the PL for next 2-3 seasons the club will be completely debt free. Especially with so many unknown variables, transfer fees, wages, covid etc.

I think the club is putting a focus on paying off all debt as quickly as possible at the expense of paying the going rate for transfer fees and wages.

Positive side is if we succeed we will be able to sign some top top talent in just a few years time.

Downside is we making it that much harder to achieve the above by having a strict wage structure and so on.

I your point, but you're overstating it in my opinion.

Weak teams don't suddenly become strong and consistent overnight (or over a very short summer break). You can potentially apply this rule as high up the 19/20 table as Spurs.

And Burnley have about 5 senior players.

Everton have brought in a few quality players, but still have Pickford and a shortage of decent defenders.

Brighton are probably on the up.

West Ham a classic mess.

Fulham and West Brom are (quite fairly) heavy favourites to go down, and Leeds defence will need to settle in quickly if they're going to finish mid table.

Etc.

We may drop off, but I maintain it would be a shock if we finish bottom 3... as a strong team forged over 4 years, that MAY have finished top 6 if it wasn't for the circumstances. That smashed Spurs and Chelsea at the end of the season with the strikers people are moaning disrespectfully about.

That’s just a load of paranoid nonsense.
Leeds have conceded 7 in two games, one where Liverpool didn’t turn up at all yet should have still have scored 6-7 and one against a fellow promoted rival. Fulham and West Brom also do not look good from the first two matches and neither have significantly strengthened either. You’re letting a poor first 10 mins against a top 8 side dictate how we’re going to do while giving everyone else a free pass or building them up massively at our expense. As I said complete paranoia.

I can see Blade56's point. But think he/she is taking it too far. It's possible to have such a swing in all elements, but unlikely.

Is there any evidence we are in for Buendia?
Personally I've not seen any mention, even in gossip columns!
I suppose it's not inconceivable it happens behind the scenes though while CW actively mentions strikers in press conferences.

Not linked to us but he has told Norwich he wants to return to the premier league and apparently they're happy to accept as long as price is reasonable.

Villa and palace circling... Surprise surprise

I suggest that WBA and possibly Fulham are in the Norwich role this season.
We just need to find one more !

Based on what ? One game where we looked undercooked against a seriously good wolves team ?
I think you will find the side is stronger than last year and whether Brewster signs or not ,( and I'm convinced he will be through the door this week ) we will sign a striker and the entire squad is one year older wiser and more experienced as a premier league team
Most of us knew this season would be up and down with us flirting with the bottom slots occasionally
We will be fine ,the manager and the lads have buckets of character and won't let their heads drop

Pity we can't say the same

Villa will be the litmus test. If we can’t get anything from them and their new squad we will find most teams a stronger challenge.

You seem very negative after 2 games. There are no guarantees in life but you have to look at the past and what’s happening now. We have been more than fantastic over the course of 4 seasons and we are currently in the process of strengthening in a window that is not closed for a while. Last year the mantra was one game at a time. This served us well. Nothing has happened to warrant your pessimism.

I’m guessing you haven’t followed the Blades as long as I have. 🤣 ;)

I’ve been around longer than the last 4 seasons I mentioned. This tenure of ownership and management is different. They’re forward thinking whilst also being realistic. A lot of the fans need to adapt to what we are now not what we were at our worst.
