Stadium and facilities redevelopment post KMC

Looks like we've got electronic hoardings on the BLUT now like the John Street, and they've not put the Novell coffee signs back up on the South, so it's just 'The Tony Currie Stand', not 'The Novell Coffee Tony Currie Stand'.

Looks gorgeous anyway. What a day it'll be when we're allowed in.

I think the sponsors will have stopped sponsoring the stands as it’s probably a waste of time without anybody there. Another loss of revenue due to Covid.

The corner stand at the away end was really well done. It's a shame we couldn't have done something like that with the others.

The corner stand it faces is an abomination.
To be honest they’re both an abomination in my opinion. BL corner could have been much better if the hotel hadn’t encroached into the line of the stadium.

Oh ffs its going to turn into the kit thread
' but the south stand has got too much white '
' the away stand will make me want to have sex with men '
' my favourite stand would be a Georgian bandstand with an orchestra reciting vivaldis four seasons '
'Look at borrusia monchengladbachs stand its a thing of beauty with its rainbow seats and stardust cladding '

Not really any details on the expansion, but from what Bettis said it sounds like we are looking to build the existing plans.
Yeah although there are patches of land behind the kop that doesn't belong to SUFC it will not stop the progress of the development.

I’m glad they didn’t get built, it looks out dated already.

It sounds like these are the plans we're persevering with from tonight's board Q&A.

I think we'd be missing a trick by not trying to make the stadium a place where fans can come & drink, bet & eat before & after games (Tottenham style) as this could drive revenue. However, the plans would seriously smarten the place up & would provide the additional capacity we're craving. I would estimate that would add 4k to the Kop & 7k to the South.

Out of interest, it seems that McCabe doesn't own the land behind the Kop as we all assumed, but some land on John Street. Where specifically do they mean?

I too would be interested to see exactly which part of the ground this is. Can anybody enlighten me?

If they'd asked and answered my question we would have known the exact locations and whether they were still intending to buy it.

The Club statement of 26 March 2020 refers to parcels of land suggesting its more than one area. Yusef G said to-day that the Land was on John Street and not at the back of the Kop. The only logical place on John Street is the area between the Kop and Family stand that housed the community centre. The other area has to be the Boundary Corner between the Kop and South Stand as it was closed off last season and reference was made in the media about a dispute over a sign that had been placed there. Bettis said to-day with the proposed changes to the Kop and South Stand it would take capacity over 40k.

I’m glad they didn’t get built, it looks out dated already.

All traditional stadiums with separate stands are now starting to look dated.
The latest fashion is for every stadium to be a bowl or partial bowl....I prefer our stadium with 4 seperate stands...don’t like bowls.

I like the plans in the video..the massive Kop when full will look superb and be a wall of sound.
Also the Kop would be massively improves....big enclosed under cover concourse areas with new toilets, kiosks and bars.
The South stand will have fantastic executive facilities to impress vip visitors.

The main downsides is that the ground will be a bit lob sided...like Newcastles ground. We’ll have 2 massive sides and 2 normal sides.
The other issue is that there’s plenty of land so the club could do something more radical like turn the pitch 90% and build a much bigger more matching stadium.

To be honest though id settle for those plans and a 42K capacity stadium seems fine.
Regards increasing capacity remember you have to ensure there’s enough parking to handle the extra cars
and enough roads to handle all the extra traffic.....so we need to mindful of infrastructure when expanding the capacity.

Bowls are for old people and Weetabix.

This is already long established isn’t it both in the Kop plans and the Scarborough plans for the land – it’s the area where the John St side turnstiles and facilities are, running up to Shoreham. Bettis explicitly said that this wouldn’t stop the Kop expansion or pillar removal under the current plans. I did previously suggest it was odd for them to claim the lack of ownership of the plot would jeopardise the existing plans – Bettis seemed to confirm last night that what they said back then was misleading.

Another issue I guess is how vital is having the Kop Land sites to redeveloping the Kop as intended. Going by the existing bolt-on plans, the John St/Shoreham corner site is for all intents and purposes removed from the ground’s footmark – turnstile access was proposed to be moved further up Shoreham St to where the wall is that I use as a temporary table to eat my Man Frydays food. The existing facilities on that corner should be easy enough to relocate in the refurb. Obviously were the club to own those lands, that gives flexibility on what we’d do with then redevelopment. If we’re not planning anything different to the current plans, I don’t see why these lands are necessarily an issue. McCabe presumably can’t object to the redevelopment going ahead and interfering with his plot of land, as permission has already been granted/extended?

Loughboro,

Im guessing the small area of land that we don’t own.....is the area on John Street near the Kop where McCabe was building student flats.

I was impressed with the meeting last night. The conclusions I developed were
1: Next Summer they will remove the pillars on the Kop plus a few other bits of improvements (I’m guessing minor stuff)
2: The club still plan to use the old McCabe plans regarding expansion of the Kop and South stand.
3: The club DO hope to eventually expand to over 40K.....think those plans take the stadium capacity to 41,250.

It all sounds promising but ”hoping to expand to 40K“ doesn’t mean that much.....it could be 20 years away

So if I was there I would have asked
1: Has there been any discussion regards time scales of stadium expansion and
2: What Is the clubs attitude regards safe standing....can the designs be easily changed to take into save standing or would it need planning permission again.

The bit I don’t understand is why would the club spend a lot of money taking the poles out of the Kop and finding another method to support the roof similar to the Bramall Lane end, to then extend the Kop using a cantilever roof. Or is the removal of the poles and extension the same thing.

Good point...surely to remove the posts...then such a massive roof area would need to be a cantilever style.
Would imagine this is a fairly major piece of work...wonder if a new roof is being built with expansion already in mind.

I would have thought that the expansion will take place then.

They did mention they’d took ideas from Liverpool who showed Steve Betis around and he was looking at ways to implement some of those at Bramall Lane.

Unless we decide to expand BL over the road if demand really needed it.
