I could have started a new thread, but the title of this one seems pretty appropriate. Sure a last minute goal by Yeates has given us a bit of a lift, but here are the reasons why I won't be getting carried away:

- Simmonsen is looking more like a replica of Mark Bunn, rather than a replacement for Kenny. Big money for him to cost us points every other game.
- School boy defending. How long do we have to put up with this terrible defending. Once agin we throw away points with defending that would look bad down at Pittsmoor when the u11's are playing. Big earning Nosworthy is simply terrible and Jordan is giving him a run for his money. I feel for De Laet, Bartley and Morgs who have all played well at times, but there teams mates have let them down with shocking errors.
- Poor big earners. Nosworthy, Monty, Simmo and Creswell: 4 of the biggest earners all playing like headless chickens.
- Our inexperienced manager seems to resort to Blackwell's traits when under pressure. 4-5-1 at home isn't working, Monty only got dropped because he was injured and why wait until you are 2 down before you change things?
- other teams: Pompey won again and Sven will pull Leicester out of trouble. Palace, Scunny, Preston and Bristol will all be looking at us and thinking they can finish above us.
- we were at home today. A point wouldn't have seemed a bad result before the game, but our home form remains poor. We now have 2 difficult away games coming up.
- lack of movement in the transfer market. Don't need to emphasise this.

Sure we showed spirit, but spirit alone won't keep us in the Championship. I think Speedo should get on the blower to Irvine, Robbins and/or O'Driscoll to try and learn how to play football and get results, rather than using the tricks of the trade he learnt of his old boss.

Perhaps I'm just ranting because I've not made great progress on my shed and our lass is giving me stick. Cool Clint called me at half time and said he saw Blackwell's wife was still making the pies and that really got on my tits too.

All very nice Ollie, but to be fair a lot of what you say are problems were isolated incidents, easily rectifiable.

Britton is picking up and starting to really settle in.

Sure Ertl is crap, but Monty coming back in will be a boost as at least he has some positional sense to him.

Quinn for me was second in the MoM stakes yesterday, thought he was excellent and played as well as he has done in around 2-3 years.

Yeates was excellent at times, he can't cross, can't take corners or float the ball into the box from a freekick - but he was getting in behind the defenders, getting kicked, but picked himself up. Had a few shots and wasn't afraid to hit a freekick (unlucky to hit the post) and took his goal well! Great celebration.

Morgs and Nos aren't the ideal pairing, but Bartley will be back in soon.

"Lazy" Boggy did well at times yesterday, and he put the defence under pressure a few times, doing well to get his chance and took his goal well.

The overall football and passing yesterday was decent and we weren't just playing sideways, we looked to go forward, but TRIED to keep possession.

Perhaps rather than saying that you're not getting carried away you should have a look at where the improvements have been coming from.

Britton is picking up and starting to really settle in.

Sure Ertl is crap, but Monty coming back in will be a boost as at least he has some positional sense to him.

So you was not there to see it, but can give a full appraisal on what went wrong despite not seeing it.

It's not a slight on many on here who don't get to games and post regularly about United, but i can't grasp on how you know exactly where it all went wrong despite not seeing it.

Robbins got results immediately and had a big impact after just a few games. Stating that he is not a good manager because Barnsley finished 11 points behind the Blades is laughable. Barnsley are over achieving under him and under the cirumstances (small club, small budget, poor resources) he is doing a great job. The resources that Robbins had when he took over Simon Davy's team are possible worst (certainly no better) than the one's Speed inherited.

We said it about Morgs mistake at Boro (over 2 months ago) and have carried on to do so with shockers from Nos, Jordan (x2) and Simmo (x2). Let's work on it on the training ground. But what have we been doing in the training ground. Maybe we should look at the personnel. Jordan and Nosworthy just not good enough.

- Britton and Yeates are a breath of fresh air and Bogdanovic hitting the net is a plus. I'm glad that Speed finally played Boggy in front of Ched. eventually Speed has got it right, though one has to question why he went with Ched for so long and kept a striker that outscored Evans 3 to 1 last season. That's Quinn's first decent game in a long time, so let's hope he can keep it up. Not holding my breath though.

-Is Ertl worse than Monty? Hmmmm, it's s close one. We desperately need someone to play in front of Britton and create things. The blind faithwell will say that Willo is the man, but I say that Speed needs to look elsewhere.

The result wasn't bad (I'd have taken that before hand) but conceding 3 at home is poor. And Burnely were there for the taking. There's a reason that they haven't won away and despite them being a decent team, I think it was an opportunity missed yesterday.

Easily rectifiable is the entire point for me and I'm glad that you picked out the shockers.

Most goals that we've conceded have been down to major individual errors, Simmo, Jordan and Morgs have all dropped clangers and we've paid very often with conceding goals. In my mind these have not been down to lack of ability, but lack of concentration. Thankfully these players have shown that they're much better than the odd mistake. There is hope

Not if the players are not good enough. Jordan and Nosworthy are not good enough. Calve looks good on the ball and is light weight and there are huge question marks over and aging Morgan. Anyway, we really need to cut these errors out, but one thing you are ignoring Swiss is that these stupid errors blighted us last season. Sure the back line is different, but we've been seing lapses in concentration cost us points for 18 months now. Had it not been for the combination of individual erros from Bunn, Monty, Morgs and Taylor last season we might have made the play offs.

Agreed that we need to cut the errors out, but not sure that its necessarily on the training ground is where we need to sort these things, the players are clearly in the right positions (Morgs v Boro; Jordan v Leeds; Simmo v Burnley and Simmo v Forest) its just concentration at times - there were also other times yesterday when Bikey and Iwelumo both got free chances in the 6 yd box with defenders right next to them. Both times the defenders switched off.

Again you're not wrong that mistakes have cost us in the last season and this, but its rarely the same player it varies, but then so does the back four/five - every game.

We need stability, thats a given.

But putting so much attention on the defender's individual errors is putting the focus in the wrong area. Yes its costing us, but things like defending set pieces; defending on the counter; crossing the ball etc are way up on the priorities
