For the most part of that match we played on the front and in particular down the flanks looking to get our 2 on 3 overloads, what Wolves did tonight was something I haven't seen a side do against us. They put 4 defending players in the corner blocking all our options, this happened time and time again and we continued to run down blind alleys. It was only when Sander came on with his inventive passing we began to move their defensive block around which gave us soe overload options. If teams are going to defend like this against us this season we need to be smarter and realise the 7 player trap in the corner means there is space elsewhere and we should work on utilising this. We have to be more inventive, more cunning and more aware that teams will now respect what we do well and counter it.

I noticed it too much more in the first half though. Second half I felt we played much more of the system we're used to and found enough space to whip balls in....however...

No, we had countless good crossing options and resulting corners and set pieces. There was also numerous opportunities for a pacy striker to pull clear down the sides of the Wolves centreback/wingback. The big positive for me is that a good team and management couldn't stop the overloads. Now for some pace and better end product please.

Yeah i guess thats the thing isnt it, to create space on the wings, we need to at least threaten going through the middle. Sander even feinting inside creates space on the overload.

I know this isn't going to happen but we need a creative midfielder and 2 strikers because Moose is a dead loss, Billy is out of his depth as is Didsy and Burke is unproven.

We were so predictable. Some cross's came after 4 or 5 overloaded the wing, but they were to 1 striker. Even if we do get top strikers they still have to deal with that service. We need some more variety in our play to make more chances.

The switching of play is both friend and foe. The main issue we have is that it slows things down and teams can get back in numbers to defend. More directness and more pace, emanating from midfield, is the answer I think.

Didsy was awful. The great partnership of Sharp/Didsy is a ghost of Christmas past and both need replacing.

It’s no good the forwards running channels when we rely on the L/RCB, L/RWB and L/RCM getting forward. We need the forwards in the middle for the odd time in 20 when we put a decent ball in.

I don’t think that our system has been managed as such, I think that we aren’t playing it like we used to. The overloads aren’t there to give us the 2 or 3 options which we previously had.
We continually pass the ball to the player on the edge of the box who plays it back To the player on the touchline who then pushes it forward or knocks it back again.
Plus the final ball into the box is atrocious. The point of the overload is the options it gives us but we always, always choose the same predictable option. Plus no one ever drives into the box through the middle.
For me it’s our lack of ambition and being too predictable rather than being managed.
In the championship we were able to press teams to death in the final third. In the prem you need to have that option of a forward running into space or cutting between the centrebacks / full back and relying on a good ball.
As good as Norwood is, he is just neat and tidy without unlocking a defence, although to be fair to him, the forwards are so laborious that they don’t give him the options. Billy is in the shape of his life and I firmly believe that if you give him chances he will score but we aren’t playing to either his - or McBurnies strengths. God I’m boring myself now....

I think you answered your own post That we “need to be more inventive” when you said that we were more inventive when Berge came on for Norwood

We’ve seen in the past that subtle changes in style can have major effects.

Dropping the Duffy role and replacing it with Fleck/ Lunny playing more advanced roles worked well last season and it will this season. But we will also need to counter sides blocking our wing overloads

Egan’s run through the middle showed that we can overload in other ways.

We’ll keep adapting, keep learning, keep developing and evolving.

Of all the sides we’ve played since Wilder came in, Nunos Wolves are the one side we’ve played the most, I think. We’ve probably played against Bruce more at Villa, pigs and Newcastle (6 at a quick count) but I think we’ve played Nunos Wolves 5 times.

Wolves on the day got a great start and are a side similar to us at our best. We were too nice on the day . Lundstram should have put the winger in the stand like wolves Traore bundles players out of the way. The finish for their first was top class. The second was avoidable.
We don't have to panic. All 3 promoted clubs lost I'm sure their fans will still believe theh can make it.
