Wilder for England?

Bizarre seeing a United manager in the betting for next England manager, and shorter odds than two cap centurions

Right-footed players at LCB and LWB when you have the pick of the country. The bloke is a nice bloke. but he’s a characterless, spineless twat.

Decide how you’re going to play, pick the best players for that system ...

OR if pressured into picking certain players then play the best system for those players.

Horseface tries to be all things to all men and ends up being nothing to anybody.

There are 2 managers who could take the current English player pool to be genuine contenders in world football. Dyche & Wilder - joint managers while being allowed to continue with their clubs. They already know everything about the ability of every decent English player. They are big enough men and wise enough men to respect and feed off each other. Their clubs don’t play when international games are on.

Even Magic has to Start Somewhere

Is anybody actually bothered about the England national team anymore

I am.

They're my national team and I'm extremely bleedin' bothered about them and especially bleedin' bothered about why we never win owt!

Tonight was garbage, almost Adkin-esque in it's level of garbageness.

I was encouraged by Southgate initially but he seems to have lost his way a little.

Mind you, twattery amongst the younger England players hasn't helped him

Ha ha ha could anyone imagine Wilder in a suit? Oh and he'd have to have a shave more than once a fortnight.
In a children’s tie? Me neither...

Large

England fans calling for a change of manger now is the equivalent of United fans wanting Wilder sacked because we only drew with Preston last week.

Two low-key performances in what were basically pre-season friendlies. One win, one draw. No goals conceded.

Like him or not Southgate got us to a World Cup Semi Final and a Nations League Semi Final (tinpot but we still beat good teams to get there).

He deserves the chance to succeed or fail in the Euros next summer.

that was shocking 2 chances in 2 games. Belgium are going to batter us next month if we play like that. with the attacking talent in that team. the last 2 games is unacceptable.

but i think it would be howe or Gerrard i would assume. maybe dyche but he's bit like Allardyce. FA couldnt wait to sack him.

Why are Gary Monk and Megson not on the list? 😅

I believe it should be his next job. What a story Sunday league to English manager.

They would be having Chris do all sorts for grass roots football etc and would be a fantastic fit.

Right, OK, Dyche for England it is then !!!

No chance he is too outspoken and honest.................. ref Brian Clough

Good Clough reference, I can very well imagine CW turning up at Leeds and telling them to throw their medals in the bin, that'd be piss funny.

He pisses all over Southgate all day long and twice on a Sunday. Southgate does not have a clue and can't take a pen.

Southgate is getting found out, his only USP was that he looked good in a waistcoat, thats worn a bit thin now.

England don’t employ good managers, so it’ll not happen.

I agree, but what if they did? It would re-engage the people like me who don't really give a shit, more people would get behind them. Far better than the rent-a-quote waistcoat wearing fuckers we have now.

Imagine the pig bands reaction if Wilder got the job.

No.

But I might be if there was a manager who didn't live on soundbites and what he dressed like. And played football that entertains, not boring fucking percentage football that contains the might of fucking Denmark. I'd rather we lose a few but have a go than play like England are.

The next England manager will be either Gerrard or Lampard

Yeah, I'm sure he's got something about him, like a decent coaching staff.
I'd love to see Dyche get it but it will never happen in a million years as he doesn't fit the mould.

I think England have some talented attacking players and a shitload of quality RB/RWBs but lack any class central midfielders. I think the fact that Phillips started the Denmark game says it all. Who would be our first choice, maybe Henderson and Rice?

It feels to me as though England need to play 5-3-2 but Southgate is obsessed with having Sancho, Sterling and Kane as a front three. I think he could fit them into a 5-3-2 or something similar with Kane up top and either of the other two as a 9 and two 10's or two 9's and a 10. However the problem is that puts a lot of responsibility on the two central mids and I don't think we've got enough quality there which means you then have to expect two of the front three to help out defensively and I don't think any of those three are good enough defensively.
i would like to see a 5-2-2-1, back 3 cb’s with wingbacks, 2 cm’s, 2 wingers/AM’s and a striker, it would be perfect for the current crop of england players we have

The Denmarkians failed to qualify for the Euros in '92. The Balkans conflict started and Yugoslavia were removed from the finals.
Denmark were invited to take their place as next best dressed, and ended up as winners.
Funny old game. It's why we endure it.

You can't class them as pre-season friendlies then later give a Nations League semi as an achievement.

The world cup semi looks a hell of a lot better than it was. Who did we beat....Trinidad, Tunisia and Sweden. That's it! We lost as many fucking games as we won - unsurprisingly to any half decent team.

His style is defensive first, no matter who we're playing against. 2 Defensive midfielders against fucking Iceland (who just play with a back 10) is absolutely ridiculous.

To then change to a back three, having Dier on the Left side and Coady in the Middle, the trippier LWB (who was constantly facing his own goal) is hypocrisy considering he's apparently about round pegs in round holes.

The guy is a fraud, his club career consists of 1 achievement, relegation.

Wilder has forgotten more about managing than Southgate will ever know.

Both are polar opposite though, one was groomed by the FA and moulded into the perfect little yes man, the other will seriously rock the boat if he has to.

Dyche won't get it either, Lamaprd is basically the manager in waiting (in a few years admittedly) ... which is insane really.

I think if Wilder was dealing with the 2 lads who got sent home from the England camp, he would have bollocked them but still wanted them for the team. He will always want to win and want the strongest team. This is why he will probably never manage England.

Think it was Panama not Trinidad (meaningless correction)

We also beat Columbia, on penalties no less! (Slightly more meaningful correction - granted didn’t beat them in normal time but a win is a win).

Anyway like many others I thought Southgate was a breath of fresh air at first, picked a young team, had a go, got quite far albeit not against the toughest teams. No complaints and had fun watching England at a World Cup for the first time in a long time.

But things seem to be drifting back to the old ways with “manager’s favourites” getting picked regardless of form and turgid performances.

Southgate following the time honoured tradition of England managers picking players by which club they play for and not what they offer the England team.

Pickford in goal? Trippier and Dier? Tyrone fucking Mings ahead of our Jack? The same mistakes are made decade after decade and then people wonder why we win fuck all.

I think it's just a self-defence mode England managers fall into. Pick household names from big teams and then it's a lot easier to shrug off failure. If you picked players based on form and the season they've had domestically then there's not too many done better than our back line, but just imagine if Southgate picked some lesser known players and lost - they'd be hammered by the press for ignoring all the big name talent. It'd be seen as utter incompetence not just typical England mediocrity on the world stage. No, much safer to pick Dier even though the main criticism of his team this season has been their defence.

Yeah, one of the numerous corrections I have had thrown at me lately. I'm getting terrible at getting shit wrong lol.

Left columbia out purely as it was on pennos which is a lottery. Either way, apart from Spain away, it's been pretty downhill every since...and I feel the last two games have actually hit new lows for England.

Exactly, had he kept them around he'd have been hammered by the press and probably sacked.
