Further to DD's amusing post, and in the light of all the wrist-slashing that's going on over our disgraceful point last night, I'd like to reminisce about when we were even worse than we are now. ;)

Over recent years, I think we can all remember bitter disappointments such as:

  • Losing to Newcastle in the semi at Old Trafford (1998)
  • Last-minute defeat v. Palace in the semi at Wembley (1997)
  • Double semi defeats in 2003 v. Arsenal and Liverpool
  • Playoff defeat at Cardiff v. Wolves (2003) and
  • Playoff defeat v. Burnley at Wembley (2009)

Now I was at all of these, as I'm sure a lot of you were. But can any of you match my record below, or am I 'The Original Jonah'?

1968, last-day defeat to Chelsea which relegated us from the top-tier.

Thirteen years later (1981), last-day defeat in that incredible match at home to Walsall which saw us sent down to the bottom tier. (Yes, you young 'uns, that's even lower than Wendy are now!)

Thirteen years later (1994), last-day defeat at Chelsea when we were safe with 5 minutes to go. Again, we lost our place in the top flight. (Thanks Segers, Grobelaar and Fashanu)

Thirteen years later (2007), last-day defeat (see a pattern emerging here?) at home to Wigan when we lost our etc. etc.

So am I a Jonah? Or should I just stop at home?

I think a guy named Jonah might have the title of Original Jonah tied up mate. Good effort none the less, if it makes you feel any better I think you might be the original grafikhaus. :)

orry to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm not even sure he can claim that one.

They've been around foir 25 years and while I appreciate that our grafikhaus has been around longer, I doubt he was using that as an online monicker in 1985.

I'm afraid I was at all of those plus
the Semi final v Wednesday at Wembley.
defeat at Hillsboro - 4-0 on Boxing day 1969,
defeat at Cambridge which relegated us from Division 2 to three (my God when was that?)
Losing 3-0 at Altringham in the Cup circa 1980.

I don't want to be Jonah please someone say they have witmessed more misery than I have.

>defeat at Cambridge which relegated us from Division 2 to three (my God when was that?)
umm.. 1979 to hazard a guess.. looks like you have the set there eskimo.. apart from the watneys cup final circa 1974:)

I remember that one as a Draw, 0 - 0

And we were still alive after it, an 8 - 0 win in the final home game couldv`e seen us safe

As a part-timer who picks and chooses games, I've got a shocking record away from Bramall Lane. The last time I saw United win anywhere other than the Lane, Adrian Heath was in charge at Stockport (memorable also for the Andy Dibble breakdown, dismissal, undressing, tears and cheers). I guess this shouldn't really count as it's more like a home game than the Lane for me - and it was only a blip on a near perfect run of losses that goes all the way back to beating Wednesday 3-1 at Hillsborough.

It isn't just not going that hasn't helped, I've been all over and seen us fail. The highlight of my travels since Stockport is a 0-0 draw away to Wolves in the last promotion season. Blackpool away last year was about par for the course.

No - he's addicted to wedding cake and shit discos.:D

Haha! That actually made me laugh out loud.....(real lol)

Grafikhaus - clarification required, were you at Wembley for that semi-final against them?

Dammit! Forgot that one! Yup, I was there...

Yep, I remember it as 2-2, Kevin McNally was the Referee, the guy who had sent Woodward off at Burnley earlier in the Season, along with Andy Keeley.

No I wasn't at the Watney Cup Final we lost on penalties at Bristol in 1974. Eddy missed didn't he? But I clearly remember hearing the result waiting for the 65 bus in Pond St. I'd bought some Oxford bags from Sexy Rexy and some shoes from Ravel? with ridiculously thick soles.

heh .. quality.. they'll be back at some point.. i remember it being on tv.. we weren't on tv too often (then as now).. i was about nine

So like many of you i've been to see Blades on 6 neutral grounds and lost. Plus Leicester (didnt one of their players get Twatted by a fan at the end), walsall, 1979 at you know where, I was also at Plough lane where that ginger ref Danson describes it as the most bizzar game he'd refed. (That Fashanu bloke again, Hand ball) it was 1-1 and if we'd have won it would have been a top flight record for us i beleive.

6 grounds? Old and new Wembley, Cardiff, Old Trafford, and someone mentioned at game a Bristol (before my time). What's the other?

Maybe i should have said 4 then? forget Bristol wernt there. Or maybe i should have said ''Ive been to see Blades 6 times at neutral grounds and they've lost each time''?

>(didnt one of their players get Twatted by a fan at the end)
yeah.. i know the guy who did it actually.. really nice bloke.. normally.. totally lost his rag :D
