Oli McBurnie mystery as striker named on Sheffield United bench despite Scotland withdrawal

I was thinking rhe same mate, hes not got the best of relationships with their fans and I see he's now come of the bench at Derby😀

I know.

You would think after all that "caught on video" shenanigans last year he'd be a bit keener to show face and win over the doubters. He really has been anonymous when he's played for Scotland, so most folk up here have not seen the best of him, certainly not enough to forgive two bouts of what could easily be interpreted as not giving a shit.
 
As soon as I saw Oli's name on the teamsheet, I'm thinking this isn't gonna go down well with the Scottish fans but maybe he's just there for the occasion, but then why would he be on the bench. Then he comes off and I can see he's gonna get some real stick.

I love the man, but not sure how he or the club can dress this one up! On the bright side, I'm delighted he's fit for us, I think he'll be immense this season.

Because he’s a self confessed Rangers fan and most of Scotland doesn’t need any other reason but that to hate him

Apologies for the allusion to geopolitics... but,
or perhaps, he has a position about playing against a country that imprisons certain sections of its population and starting on the bench for the Blades against Derby County can be considered as an ethical solution...
I just want to think the best about our own OliMcB!

I don’t see what all the fuss is about. He played 45 minutes for his club in a pre season friendly in order to build up his fitness. The Nations League is supposed to be competitive football. I can see why both McBurnie and the club don’t want him jumping straight into that. We pay his considerable wages. Scottish fans do nothing but slag him off. If he is only working his way back up to match fitness then we did the right thing.

What absolute twaddle. Kenny Miller played for Scotland for years quite happily and is as big a bluenose as they come. He's just one example.

Rangers fans really are the flat earthers of football fandom. Everything's a bloody conspiracy about them.
 
Its obvious he's a club over country man, maybe because he isn't Scottish. But there's certainly rational thought in his decision, not that the Scots will see it that way.

He's had limited time with the first team anyway, its a massive season for us and this round of international fixtures have come at a time when players are trying to force their way into to the starting 11 for the season and finalise preparations.

The way I see it, he's demonstrated his full commitment to helping his team achieve success this season

The game I saw him play, Scotland were being outplayed by Outer Mongolia (or similar), and he was stranded up front. He was given the odd hopeless long ball to chase against 4 defenders, and was getting stick from the crowd.

I’d fuck it off too, if I were him.

Amazes me how many English people believe this nonsense.
 
We pay his wages. He’s a Sheffield United player. If he’s not fully fit, it should be up to Sheffield United management and medical staff to assess and decide how his injury should be handled and how much he can do, not some national team set up that see them 3 or 4 times a year. At the end of the day, if the injury is aggravated or worsened while with Scotland, we lose our main striker. Scotland just call somebody else up.

Club before country every time. That goes for Scotland, England, Ireland, Norway or anybody else.

Not Scots but got Scottish family and friends, without exception they hate the “huns” with a passion. They despise anyone who has “bluenose” leanings. Now maybe I’ve just picked a select band but I’m not making my “twaddle” statement without personal experience mate. That said I’ve no intention of falling out with a fellow Blade over a silly thing like that.

I wouldn’t say it’s why we’re wank. But it does go to show why no one feels welcome. To your average Celt, if Fleck scored a hatrick against England at Wembley he’d still be ‘pish’. Ranges fans have an unhealthy dislike of Clarke and they don’t rate McGinn because he grew up a Celt. It’s the barmy politics of football through in the West.

We'll, yeah there is that, but it's just because Rangers are a big team up here. They're as hated as Chelsea or Man U are down here. Most non Old Firm fans are similarly ambivelant about Celtic. It wouldn't stop anyone backing a player in a Scotland shirt though, just as it wouldn't stop anyone in England cheering on Tammy Abrham or Marcus Rashford.

Hardly a decision made by Oli, is the staff at the club make that decision and big difference getting first minutes under your belt in preseason as opposed to playing a competitive international game with no previous game time.
 

As important as I think representing the country is,ultimately imo your club side should always come first

McBurnie needed to get some action and better in this friendly versus getting it in an international where in the grand scheme of things not as important with opening gsme vs Wolves not too far away
