CONFIRMED Oliver Burke

I was chatting with a WBA fan about him playing as a RWB. He said that was where Alaves played him when he was on loan there.

Also said it seemed to work well in terms of his attacking contribution, but that there’s plenty of work to do on the defensive side of things.

Could he be coached into becoming an alternative to Baldock?

Guess so, but Natham Hemmingham from Yorkshire Live seemed to indicate that we were looking at playing Burke as a striker, but who knows. Either way I think Burke could be a great addition if we get him back to his Forest days.

None of the teams Oli Norwood played for, even the one that owned him, saw him as a Premier League player. He did alright last season despite that. Coutts was terrible until he wasn’t and became a hero. Brian Deane was ok for someone many United fans were distinctly underwhelmed (despite what they claim now) when we signed him. Higdon was a proper signing bound to score goals, Hammond was quality at Leicester. Now it may be that Burke doesn’t do it here but while the past can inform the future it‘s not an exact science.

cant believe u didnt mention didzy but lol at ipswich releasing him upon relegation to league one, imagine McGoldrick in that league under the right management... phwoar

Having never seen Oli Burke play aside from the odd highlight or clip I've seen in this thread or on twitter, and after trying to sift through and find the level-headed unbiased opinions, it seems to me like he could be a strong addition to the squad

Pace to take players on and the strength with it to not get bullied off the ball too easily, potentially a good attacking option off the bench or away from home

If true he played most of the season at Alaves at RWB, and they wanted him back this season, then with us likely missing out on Cash it could be potentially smart to bring him in with RWB cover in mind too - I'm in the Baldock is fantastic group, don't think we necessarily needed to upgrade him with Cash but competition or cover is ideal, see Ben Osborn - great cover at LWB and CM when it came down to needing him

Players with that kind of versatility scream Wilder signing to me, going forward maybe he is on par with Robbo or slightly worse, but we're not gonna be able to stick Robbo at RWB are we? That extra option might be what Wilder sees in this, and potentially what makes it a good trade off for him

I agree with the above, the way to look at it swapping our fifth choice striker for someone else who will be fifth choice, but MIGHT have more of the attributes we're after. Ontop of that he'll be (at the moment) 2nd choice RWB and third choice RCM. The only downside is losing a wide forward option, which we've literally never played under Sir Chris or if Robbo develops rapidly, which is possible but about as likely as everything clicking for Burke in my opinion.

You forgot cant spell or use capital letters correctly

I am personally hoping that this swap deal (if it turns out to be this is?) is a loan for a view with each player. If it works out, then all well and good, but if not we can send burke back.

No real new content but interesting view from Clarke who’s always seemingly been considered a good coach.
Again covers why I wouldn’t be losing my shit if we signed him and think it’s a shot for nothing.
Fully expect him to be one of the signings this week.

The magazine 442 and the West Brom fan writing on their behalf had Burke down as his player he most wanted to move on! 😄 I wasn't surprised at that, but I really want us to sign Burke, think he could be a real steal.

I could see this not being done till next week though, assuming it will be done of course, with both Robinson and Burke on international duty.

There is a lot of negativity towards this signing and i'm not sure why. He has pace to burn (tick), is strong/powerful (tick), is very skilfull and can run/dribble with the ball (tick), gained massive experience on loan at good clubs in different countries (tick), can play in several positions (tick).

The downside is he got bombed out at WBA for whatever reason and he clearly needs managing by someone like Wilder amongst a great camp of players like we have here.

Really would be a very shrewd signing this.

various reports seem to be he has all the physical attributes you could but not the intelligence or end product to Support his transfer fees.

Worrying talk about him needing to be coached through games make me wonder if he could hack it in our system - but I guess wilder must think he can get something out of him and at the very least soMe more pace would be welcome.

In my mind it’s a versatile plan b to cover a few positions - this years Ben Osborn maybe??

Our system which we rarely move away from where everyone need to know their roles?
That system?

The system we are now comfortable with was only introduced after we lost Brooks and bombed Duffy out. We were pretty comfortable with that system to be fair.

Anybody remember when we played Boro at the Lane a couple of years back? Traore played down the right in the first half and the left in the second half so that Pulis could tell him where to go and what to do all the time.

That approach doesn’t develop a player then does it?!!

Never get too comfortable is the first rule.

Highlighted the main point above. Especially the squad part as that is all Robbo is for us.

Our 1st choice 11, as proved last season, is good enough to mix it in The Prem.

What we need is stronger back ups.

That system?

Our system is complex and relies on everyone knowing it to a tee - And to be fair it’s different to what we played last year and wilder changed it in game fairly often also - so he’s going to need to know what he’s doing in more than one role.

I’ve no idea if Burke can play it or not.
I’m Just going from the reports he was too thick to learn red bulls system and needing to be coached through games.

Can't pass (tick)
Runs down blind alleys (tick)
Finishing worse than Connor Sammon (tick)

He certainly ticks a lot of boxes....

Not sure Steve’s said anything really. Almost a politician’s quote, he’s hardly likely to say “the lads quick but has fuck all composure in front of goal”.
I’m not wetting the bed, and CWAK have a proven track record, if he does sign I’ll get right behind him. I saw a lot of him when he was up here and also on Scotland duty and notwithstanding my previous post I was really impressed when I first saw him play for Scotland. However, unlike say John McGinn, he hasn’t progressed.

That said, I’d love to sit down and dine on my words. Because, if they could instil some composure and improve his first touch we’d have some player. Fucking quick and big with it!!

Don't know if it's been mentioned but I think Jack Lester was Forest U18 coach when Burke and Cash came through.
And he was a striker and he’ll be signed.
