Now THAT name will take some singing about in years to come !

I may be wrong, but it seems to me either someone who couldn't spell Antoine, or who wanted their son to have a different name. Either way, I wonder how many times he's had to spell out his name!

Seems to be quite a few Antwoines around.

I love watching the academy sides on a weekend, I don't watch any specific side just have a walk about and so watch many players over the years and if someone catches my eye I like to watch their progress over the years. We have many youngsters that I can see making a breakthrough over the next 5 years or so.

But the next superstar from the Shirecliffe conveyor belt is Antwoine Hackford, a 14 year old striker. Plays for the U15s what a player this boy is and I am going to go on record and say this lad will make his first team appearance aged 16, become our youngest ever player and our youngest ever goal scorer. That is some statement but he is some player.

Any other avid academy watchers have their tips for future stars?

I can remember reading on here of a couple of Chesterfield lads with Italian names.
More recently someone in a supermarket bent my ear about Jordan Slew's younger brother. He didn't seem to last long at the academy and all 3 are now playing non-league.

Albert Staniland.

I read about him in a "Lane Line Up" programme roundabout 1972. He was definitely going to be our next big star. I suspect he probably got injured?

How about all those "stars" from that FA Youth Cup Final team? McFadzean, Ironside, Maguire, etc. Only 1 has gone on to make a career out of the game - and by some margin too! Well done Harry. But the rest aren't good enough for professional football or even good enough to stand out at an amateur level.

I hope you're right about Antwoine Hackford. But already, that name is giving me doubts! :(
Long, McFadzean, Whitehouse. And I’d defy anyone saying the millionaire Jordan Slew didn’t make a career out of the game!

I used to play against Jack Cork a lot at school level up until age 16. Every time we played, my mate in central midfield used to run the show and completely dominate him. I was never that impressed and only reckoned Cork was doing as well as he did because of Alan. Anyway, it just goes to show how things can change from around that age onwards. My mate is now an accountant and Jack is a Premier League player. Can hardly argue that Jack hasn’t deserved to get where he is now either.

Still amuses me to think about John Fleck’s history. You have to remember he was tipped for very, very big things when he came through at Rangers as a 15-year-old (yes, 15!!). I reckon he will end up fulfilling his potential (with us, I hope) but it’s taken some time.

I played between the age of 11-16 with Trenton Wiggan

At age 11 he was like an 18 year old

By the time we reached 13 he was like 27 or something

You thought that there was nothing on earth that could touch him

We found out that he was pretty ordinary during his spell with United

Did you go to All Saints Comp?
I was in the same class as Trenton from age 13 to 16 although I was shit at football.

Always a worry when there is a major prospect. I would be absolutely astounded if Antwoine Hackford has not already been tapped up by one of the big clubs, he really is that good.

We lost a lad earlier this season to Man Utd, he was of russian or ukraine descent, something like that anyway. An amazing talent who is also heading for the top, Man Utd moved all the family to Manchester and gave his parents jobs one of the parents in his side was telling me, we have lost out big time on that lad because he was amazing.
What's his name?

Where is he now?

On the bench for the u23s?

Nay - this other lad! "We lost a lad earlier this season to Man Utd, he was of russian or ukraine descent, something like that anyway. Loads have followed this path, thankfully none have made it.
Hopefully this lad will also fade into obscurity.

Did a quick search for him and his Facebook page cropped up.

Añtŵoînè Hackford!

How the fuck are you meant to pronounce that!?

His Instagram feed has a cut-up of goals and assists playing for both us and England juniors. The footage is never great at those games but the talent is clear. He looks very quick and skillful and a good finisher as well. Right footed but a few goals off his left peg too. Fairly average height and pretty slight, so he seems to win on pace and skill at the moment. But you watch him thinking that Matt Prestridge and his team could do wonders on him. Closest comparison among our strikers - and note I haven't seen Zivkovic play - is probably Mousset. Mousset wins on power much more but - and it feels weird saying this about a 16 year old kid - Hackford has more polish. You see Hackford joining the pitch wearing the number 14 shirt a couple of times, whether that's intentional or not I'm not sure because I don't think his style of play is a million miles away from Thierry Henry. That's style of play and not quality though, he's only 16 so too early to get excited.

Would be great to see a young lad get a chance in the Prem for us, GLTTL hope he manages it.

Seen he's training with the first team in the club videos and on his Instagram. Wilder must rate him highly. Also spotted Brunt, Graham, Dewhurst, Slater and RND.

Wow nearly two years flown by. Still stand by my prediction of him being our youngest ever player and scorer although the goal posts have moved somewhat for the lad as it’s going to be a lot tougher now its the premiership but this lad has it all and the next superstar off the conveyor belt. He’s far too young for a loan move so I’d expect CW to look after him and nurture him himself and name him as sub in the coming months. Hopefully comes on for 5 minutes and nicks a goal. If he doesn’t and he is still too young hopefully next season will be his break out season.

CWAK, could have blooded them on the bench for the restart games. Imagine their pride at being a sub against Chelski/Spurs/ Arse. Would have given all the u23's a boost to go the step further..

To be fair I imagine some of those will be involved because we’re relatively low on numbers currently given only Jagielka and Rodwell of those released seem to be training.

We were going for Europe at the time, wasn’t the right time to be trying out youngsters

Wouldn't we have had to have registered them too? Some of them had been out on loan.

GLTTL, think he’s got a real look of Andy Cole in terms of his finishing. 😍

As with every youngster in sport wanting to break through, he needs to do the following:-
a) Work harder than anyone else and be relentless
b) Practice harder than anyone else and hone his craft
c) Keep his social media neat & tidy
d) Seek advice from good people and good pro’s. Sharp, Jagielka, O’Connell, McGoldrick, loads of good people to listen to in the club.

Then ultimately needs to play some grown up football, be it on loan or breaking through here.

But looks to have potential.
