Premier League more live games

The likely destination for that idea is even more revenue for the bigger teams and less for the likes of us. Why should they continue to share TV revenues when it’s clear who people want to watch with individual subscriptions?
Why fans of clubs like ours are so desperate to break the current collectively negotiated model really is beyond me? It’s like they’re turkeys voting for Christmas and all because they might not see the odd game live this season.
Think about where changes will lead. There are no one off changes to this type of thing, no just for this season ideas that the big clubs won’t push to keep for their sole benefit.

This is absolutely spot on. Those out there wanting to go down the indivdual club route are living in cloud cuckoo land.

At present there is an even split in both the domestic and international broadcast revenues with only the merit payments and live fee payment being variable hence even the bottom team getting £100m plus.

In future I can see The Premier League going down the in house streaming route where every game is shown for a set monthly fee. This would be a far better option IMO as it would eliminate the live game fee difference so in reality the only variable would be the merit payments.

That could work but that would be a premium bundle and would have to be across multiple providers in order to meet competition laws. My concern would be the obvious cheaper option would be the club season ticket.
They’d also have to stop all 3 o’clock kick offs on Saturday or remove the blackout which EFL and FA wouldn’t be supportive of especially post Covid.

The 3pm blackout would be a stumbling block potentially but if they wanted to bring all broadcasting in house there's nothing stopping them as they own "the product" and can broadcast it exactly how they want. They only use the broadcasters now as that's the biggest return financially for them at present.

I just don’t see the current centralised system ever changing. A few clubs may want it to change to individual rights, but there will never be enough to pass a majority vote.

I also doubt the Premier League would want to hurt the product by creating an even bigger wealth divide between the top clubs and the rest.

As has been said the global subscription streaming service will be the future. But it will still see the profits from that service being distributed in a similar way to the current system.

The "3pm blackout" was removed by UEFA earlier this year its now just the FA/PL/EFL holding it back. They just need to decide. They probably wont.

There is a bit about research saying that the blackout makes no difference to attendances which I agree with 100%. I think it’s quite insulting to lower league fans to suggest they’d rather stay at home watching a Premier League match than go and support their team. It’s completely outdated and should be scrapped.

Most current fans would still go and watch their team. But i do think showing 3pm games would hinder clubs efforts to attract new supporters.Take us for instance when we offered free or reduced prices tickets to students when we were in the Championship/1st Division would they take up the offer if Man City v Arsenal was live at 3pm in the pub on the same day.

I think you’re either the type of person that wants to attend live football or not. Those people would just go to the pub and watch Soccer Saturday with their mates anyway at 3pm.

There is that much live football on TV these days that it’s not something that will make you change your plans for. We should be in a situation where if United sell out a match either home or away, we should be able to watch the match legally within the UK.

It could go down the NFL route in the states, where I am sure that a game has to sell a certain percentage of tickets for it to be shown on TV
 
I'm sure everyone knows this, but Sky and BT logins can be shared to watch games on your PC/tablet/phone. If planned - one person can watch match on TV, and two more can stream same match on a device. That's matches available to x3 households.

So if you club together with 2 mates in different households, you could split the bills 3 ways. One of you had BT broadband & BT TV + BT sport, one of you has Sky broadband & Sports, the third person just pays their share of both (and sorts Amazon Prime around December).

Still a lot of money, but split this way it's probably about the same monthly cost as a long night at the pub, or a fairly nice dinner with a date. Also the companies usually have some discounts at this time of year.

Also use website topcashback for big discounts on brand new BT/Sky contracts. I can even refer you for a couple of extra quid I think(!).

Yep they have to sell certain amount of stadium tickets or the game is blacked out In that state only
