Well, firstly you can do A without doing B, but that’s besides the point as no one has said we do not need to invest in quality anyway. Also no one has said we do not have to pay a fair wage.
Where we are different to Villa is we have a wage structure and within that our players are rewarded fairly in line with everyone else.
If you want to be paid outside that structure you need to leave or perform and wait for it to increase.
We’re increasing it sensibly as we go, but if we can sign the likes of Berge while staying in it then we’ll be just fine doing what we’re doing.
Wanting us to start throwing wages around like Villa and the like do in order to entice players is thankfully not what we do.
We’re Sheffield United and we do our own thing, and if that means we miss out on some players who put wages before everything else then all the better.

I mean the below is a fairly recent quote. I don’t think anyone denies that he probably has some professional admiration for us given our involvement in his development, leading to him coming back and watching his mates occasionally. But he’s not a fan of us – he’s a West Brom fan. That has a shirt from an ex West Brom keeper.
