No they cant have it all ways but you will find that disagreeable people tend to want it all ways. I'm not saying Olle or any of the others concerned definatelty do but you tend to find defiant characters often want their cake and eat it yes....

I dont think ive contradicted myself as such. I still maintain in both posts that such comments shouldn't be taken seriously but at the same time I'm recognising your point of view, which is perfectly valid. However it is all a matter of perception and how you take someone's comments. I suppose there isnt a right or wrong here really.

To be honest Boo, its probably just the way I am. I can take an aggressive or negative comment towards me and let it bounce off my chest (broad shoulders and all that). Even if I do on the rare occasion take it personally I just think they're a c*** and move on.

The difference for me is that where someone like Olle slates an opinion.....he gets slated for his conduct. There is a line somewhere for me.

What are we going on about? it seems we both agree.
Please dont take this personally, Your fairly new to the forum (although you may have been watching for a while). ( It also doesn't qualify me more either). if new then you may not realise that these fictitious groups didn't exist till a month or so ago. May i suugest that you dont focus on Olle and view others as well.
Regards Boo

Gentlemen.

I think a lot of people have forgotten the prevailing rule we expect you to abide by, which is respect both for other people and their opinions.

We have always encouraged reasonable debate and encouraged tete-a-tetes which don't resort to cheap shots like personal abuse and the questioning of other peoples' sanity for holding an opinion.

I know Foxy and I have been away from the forum more than we would like at the minute but we will be contacting ALL members this weekend to remind them of what we expect. We will then assume that ALL members know what is expected of them if they wish to continue using the platform which we provide for them.

We are not about censoring opinions and so we don't expect certain elements of our membership to take it upon themselves to stop people having their say. The only time we will step in is when people are being downright nasty and vindictive which casts a bad light on the forum and makes people not want to continue being a part of this community.

From this weekend, we will be taking a more proactive approach in dealing with members who persistantly overstep the mark in terms of behaviour and if they continue, asking them to leave the forum for the good of the community as a whole because while we don't like getting rid of members, sometimes a cull is necessary.

If you value this place and want to continue posting here, your only option is to do so with the manners and decorum expected of a reasonable human being.

I suggest people have a long hard think about how they use this place. We want a grown-up, respectful if irreverant and chatty social place to "meet" with other Blades and happily, most of our members realise this.

If you are only here to be obnoxious, we won't shed any tears over getting rid.

And personally, I'm sick of these "clapper"/"knocker" tags... they are a hang-over from other boards and don't allow for the myriad opinions people often hold.

All they do is cheapen discussion by allowing people to instantly dismiss others.

>And personally, I'm sick of these "clapper"/"knocker" tags
personally i thought it was a bit tongue in cheek.. perhaps i'm missing something.. after all we're all blades aren't we?

At this very moment? Jean Calve for not being scared to have a pop, scoring a thunderbolt and winning us a game we should've drawn. All this topped off with a capitulation magnifique and being pulled off for cramp. Bravo mon ami! :)

For most, it is. However, it is becoming readily apparent that some people are more concerned with categorising others than actually debating an individual's point of view.

I liked Morg's comment last night about he'll be getting fined for going off with cramp :)

My favorite player at the moment has to be Morg's, Monty is up there as is Ward, I also like Yeates and what he can bring to the team, Quinn too when he has a good day. To be honest I'm not one to get on players backs, they pull on the beloved Red and White stripes and that to me makes me like them from the off. They get to do something I as a child wanted to do and thats play for our club, so they get my support.

Olle, Robbie asked a simple question about 'favorite player'.You rabbitted on about your friends questions and a man who left a few weeks ago and could not give a simple answer. You also stated something about not wanting to turn it in to a sunshine thread. YET here we are five pages later you jumping on the defensive all the time and mentioning Clapper, Knocker, Sunshine at every opportunity and you accuse others of antagonising? GROW UP MAN or are you really 12?

Nope I answered the question (please read the thread properly before you make an accusations). I then made a few comments (entirely relevant in my view) about there being a link between our poor squad (down to the man who left who you mentioned) and people finding it difficult to choose a favourite player. I also suggested that Monty being people's favourite player is a sign that we are lacking in quality. Please tell me what's wrong with that? The simple fact is that you don't like me or my posts, but check your facts and come back with something more concrete before you srart saying that I am acting juvenile.

This is completely and utterly over the top. Please tell me where the rules are being broken? I respect the work that Linz and Foxy do (and am indeed very greatful for it) but just because debate gets 'heated' doesn't mean people are doing it wrong. Telling people they can't debate, catagorise people and have disagreements (all within the rules) is dangerously close to being totalitarian.

Linz - Duly noted and I have responded to the PM. As ive said I thought my in intervention would bring a bit of sense and perspective to proceedings. Agree totally, all opinions are equally important to discussion and that is what we want. Clapper/knocker tags are causing a lot of friction so should be dropped. They seemed like a bit of light hearted fun to me when I first saw them but it appears that not everyone views them that way.

Boo - I am indeed a relative new comer and for that reason I dont want to appear to rise above my station (so to speak). We are essentially in agreement about forum codes of conduct, we just have different opinions on the comments that brought about the debate. I never take it personally so dont worry about that :)

Agreed I should look at other points of view and not just one person's which I do try to. But I find the negative posts as interesting as the positive ones and to behonest I find this whole clapper/knocker thing good fun....others dont which is fair enough and its probably because I'm not at the centre of it....maybe I would view it differently otherwise. I wanst trying to defend Olle, he can do that himself. I just felt that the comments he makes should be taken as banter because I honestly think thats how it is intended. I was trying to be a mediator if you like :D

It seems that certain issues have become to personal for that though so perhaps I should have left well alone in hindsight.

A lot of the time thread's decend into Monty bashing, they didn't start as Monty threads and had little or nothing to do with him.
The 'bashers' just bring him into the threads simply so they can have a go again.

What gives you this impression?

Clever coded stuff from Speedo. When he says Monty is a 'top professional' that is code for 'Monty does not form part of my medium term plans because he cannot control or pass the football.' Honestly, I believe it and agree with Pinch, it's classic stuff from Speedo.

No it isn't. It is perfectly justified when we receive complaints about the manner in which some people are using the forum and putting others off from joining in the debate.

The rules are being broken by people belitting the opinion of others. The rules you agreed to before you registered in the forum include:

S24SU.com is for discussion of Sheffield United Football Club. This means we have many different members with many different points of view. You may not agree with what is being said but we require that all opinions are dealt with respectfully and argued in this manner. Personal abuse and attacks will not be tolerated and may be reported at any time via private message to the forum staff or by clicking on the “Report Post” button.

You have chosen to read into my post what you like, but nowhere have I said I am seeking to stifle debate. I am trying to stifle petty-point scoring and nastiness.

Heated discussion is all well and good, but when people start getting nasty and questioning peoples' sanity, it doesn't really go along with the above and we are not going to let it continue.

You may call it totalitarian. We call it keeping the forum a pleasant place to be. And like it or not, when it comes down to it, it is always going to be our way or none at all.

Oooooooooo-kkkkkkkkkkkkaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy
:p :D

>t's when a poster suggests that people are "off their heads"
umm.. steady on. .that was merely pub banter mate.. i thought that the object was to create a pub banter type atmosphere.. i didn't think i had to bring a lawyer..

>people start getting nasty and questioning peoples' sanity
that's increadibly thin skinned linz.. it was merely a throw away comment..
the writing was on the wall when big mart was banned. in fact i waste far too much time on here as it is..

the original post of this thread was totally provocative.. the poster who posted 'monty' was inviting trouble as they knew that opinion is split over this player. .i didn't mention for nothing that i have seen fans in heated disagreements over this individual in the south corner (wasn't me btw).. and here it is again.. now the whole forum is in uproar.. just over this useless lump

I'm guessing it was me you're talking about.

Actually I was answering the question posed by the OP. Monty is my favourite current player and no matter what you say about him, good or bad, I will not change my mind.

How exactly was stating my favourite player inviting trouble? I was given a question and I gave my answer.

>'m guessing it was me you're talking about
no mate.. i was on about monty :-)

>How exactly was stating my favourite player inviting trouble
come on mousey.. you've been here long enough mate ;-)

People in glass houses and all that ollie?

I'd have to echo what a couple of other people have been saying, the community spirit of this forum has gone downhill rapidly in the last few weeks, due to this clappers/knockers categorization nonsense, and you more than anyone have been stirring the pot with this Sunshine band stuff, trying to split the forum into 2 camps. It doesn't make for interesting discussion, it's just attrition. Interesting discussion for me is where you can agree with someone one week and disagree with them the next, and for me that's what position the vast majority of the people on this forum are. You seem to have your opinions set in stone and won't budge. That's not debate, it's just shouting the loudest

It's this people instantly assuming that others are being provocative that we want to get away from. I don't want posters approaching benign and innocent subjects by reading some agenda into everything people write and responding according to this as that only goes one way :)

Why can't someone ask who peoples' favourite players are without things getting too heated? It's because of this environment of sniping and arguments instead of joking and discussion that this has arisen and it is this environment and approach to posting on the forum that I am asking members to consider.

i've should know by now that some people have higher 'banter tolerance' levels than others.. seeing as everyone on here are fellow blades and i see the same names here week in / week out i suppose i have become over familar .. apologies if i have offended anyone with my 'off your head' comment..
i would however say that i have always considered olle's sunshine band thing as tongue in cheek.. seeing as he has different opinions to some of you. some of you just can't resist putting the boot in so may i suggest that everyone calm down on all sides..
remember.. we are all blades.. together!

...so may i suggest that everyone calm down on all sides..

Well said that man :)

And to get back on topic, I'd have to say I haven't really got one at the minute but if pushed, I'd probably stump for Cresswell.

You can see him trying to communicate all the time with Evans and Wardy and also gee them up when they've had a touch go astray or something's not quite worked. I like that in players.

yeah i'd go for cresswell as well.. in all of the furore i've never actually gotten around to posting my choice.. ddooohhh

:gallop::gallop::gallop:You're off your head sp.....

heh.. quality:p
further to what i said earlier i've been rereading some of the posts and linz is right you know.. this clapper/knocker stuff what started as a bit of fun is in danger of getting out of hand.. some of us have been enjoying the rebels/empire squabbles a bit too much.. we don't want to end up with duels being arranged on shoreham street do we? anyway some poor sod has to pay for all of the bandwidth (linz/foxy?).. something we should keep in mind
as for cresswell.. lets say that this plonker who sits in front of me makes olle look optimistic. he was on cressie's back from the start.. i told him to give cresswell a chance and got some right flak for it.. then cresswell scored.. the satisfaction.. heh:D

So are we safe to assume that Monty is the winner ;)

ooo, first time I've even read this thread and I've clearly missed out on lots of 'debate'. My two penneth is that there's too much repetition of the same opinion by the same people in every thread. I'm not going to name names, but we know what you think and don't need to be constantly reminded of it. I think it's this that incites people the most. And I suppose I may be guilty of this from time to time... although I'm the perfect poster in every other facet.

Anyway, favourite player would be Morgs, but I think Leon Britton will definitely push him for this honour at some point in the future.

I have a few favourites like Henderson, Ward, Cresswell but one player i do like is yeates, got a great left foot and when he finally becomes an established first teamer expect great things from him.

The perfect poster is mine of Kelly Brook.

With it looking increasingly likely that Ward won't play for us again.... does anyone want to change their mind?

The question is asked on everyone's user profile. If you look at mine you'll see what is the correct answer. :D

Are there any decent players left to comprise a short list?
Maybe we should alter this to the least detested as opposed to favouriate player.
Would fit in with the general sentiment and mood surrounding the club and it's current predicament.
