Rumour has it City looking to get rid at a significant loss.
Must be something about him that justified England place and initial purchase...so at £20m (play along that we had that to spend if say Egan was to move) who would be happy for him to come in?

I would, I reckon Wilder will be able to toughen the lad up and get enough out of him. Reckon the 3 would suit him too.

No rumour, just bored and thinking out loud on here

Think there will be a few interested before us, especially at the wages he will be on.

Think you are right about the 3 tho - he looks really suspect in a 2 playing for City

He was mentioned being available before City paid £40m for Ake - although Ake looks as suspect as Stones does.

Absolutely not. No.
Have a look at the series on Amazon tv.

He’d look fantastic in a back 3. He’s exactly the type of defender that needs it.

But no, wages and the fact there will be bigger clubs in the queue.

Thing is.....is he still a lad?

This tag has been following him around for as long as he's been a pro player, but he's now 26 so hardly a babe in arms.

He had everything going for him, a world class coach in Pep, fantasy wage, surrounded by great players, and so on. Hardly a surprise that he slipped down the rankings at Man City, after all, you need to be at your best 100% of the time, but perhaps he carried the burden of expectation from an early age, thus every error was magnified, and this may have frazzled him emotionally.

So his days at MC appear numbered, but whether we could, or should, consider Stones is debatable. One of many differences between a club like MC and the Blades is they can afford to invest a few million and not worry if it doesn't work out. Every signing we make has to come close to becoming a first team regular. Not every signing works out of course, but it won't be for the want of trying. If memory serves me correct, Stones appears to have a mistake in him on a regular basis, so assuming there's any basis to believe we'd be interested in the first place I'd pass on this with a great deal of caution.

In a back 4 so would Basham, so would Egan.

A back 3 hides those deficiencies and Stones would thrive in a 3 imo. Not here though I digress because I don’t think we could afford him.

It's a good thing football's not played on paper. Until, or unless, it happened, we'd never know if his inclusion in our defence would be successful. I think he flatters to deceive.

He’s Shit, seriously. Would love him eat the lane, sadly totally unrealistic.
He's that good he can't hold a place down in Man City's side and before anybody mentions that's because they've got a quality squad it just proves he's not got what it takes, he also got to play a bit part for England because there's fuck all to pick from.

No, No, No and No - Not a Sheffield United player - more interested in his next car and tattoo collecting.

Just checked and it's not April 1st. Most unlikely signing thread ever.

Not seen anything about his personality myself.
But as a footballer he’s known to be decent in the ball, but also know for the odd fuck up.
Personally feel Wilder is exactly the right type of manager and Knill the right type of coach to extract the best from him and coach those errors out.
As others have said, right of the 3 would be ideal for him and allow him the freedom to express himself.

Wages though would of course mean we are nowhere near being able to be considered as a prospective team for him. Unless he’s bright enough to put his career and longevity in the game ahead of money, and harbours some intention of getting back in the England side.
Interesting though seeing folks views.

Good footballer terrible defender not cut out for midfield so what do you do ?

Like Stones the pint, looks smooth but often gives you the shits.

He'd be brilliant for us though, he's got quality on the ball and Wilder would toughen him up....but he'd cost about £50k a week more than we could give him.

Most West Ham signing ever

It does seem to be the next evolution in the PL journey - winning the right to pay £100k+ a week for someone on their way out of a top 6 side.

not necessarily stones because I think he’s decent and if he was encouraged to actually concentrate on defending for a while he could be regain some form. But it will be the same thing for the likes of lingard, who will pick up a contract despite the fact he’s done nothing for 18months

Cost us big time in world cup semi with his pathetic defending, is very soft, it's a no from me

Rumoured to be going to Frank lampards Chelsea. Just the man to solidify a porous defence.

This has to be up there with the worst suggestions ever on this site.

Thread closed.

Stones has undoubted ability.
IMO CWAK would make him in to the top class defender he once threatened to be.

Try thinking out loud about this wages ....and the more pressing need for forward players 🎧
