If he isn't Cardiffs number 1 in the championship that tells you all you need to know, no thanks.
What does it tell you? Perhaps they have 2 quality keepers and Harris prefers Smithies at the moment. Man utd prefer De gea so maybe their third choice keeper must be really sh*t

Always looked the strong link in a woeful Cardiff team, hopefully we'd protect him better than they did also. I'd take him.

He was dropped because the Cardiff manager thought he would be leaving in the JTW to go back to the Prem.

He didn't, but the other keeper hasn't done anything wrong. Hard to force yourself back in if you're a keeper.

That's actually a decent shout. Ideally we would want Hendo back but if we can't get him I'd be happy with Etheridge for next year.

Isn’t he about 55?

EDIT:How the fuck is he only 30? He seems to have been around forever.

He isn’t number one because West Ham bid £10 million for him in January , and he was dropped because he was supposed to be moving

Smithies played and etheridge couldn’t get his place back

Etheridge was Cardiff’s player of the season in the prem last year so he’s obviously good enough and will be cheaper than others

I’ve been banging the Etheridge drum as a Hendo alternative for over a year now. He’s entering the final year of his contract – there’s potential value to be had here, and West Ham are presumably out of the picture given they signed Randolph when they couldn’t pull the deal off in January.

I’d much rather sign Etheridge instead of this Turkish keeper we’re meant to be after

What? Why? Based on what?

Cakir and Bayindir (which one) both linked with some of Europes biggest clubs and you want Neil f*cking Etheridge instead who has been dropped for Alex Smithies?

I wouldn't be totally against Etheridge along with one of them 2, but not instead of them.

Because neil etheridge is a proven quality premier league goalkeeper at a good age and will be a lot cheaper option

He hasn’t been dropped he was left out cause West Ham where about to sign him , which shows how highly rated he is if West Ham wanted him to be no1

Just out of interest ,why didn't they ?

He’ll be cheaper but that won’t make him better. A keeper is the most important signing we’re going to make, I want the best we can get not the cheapest.
I’m seeing a bit of a theme with a lot of the goalkeepers mentioned: Etheridge, Ramsdale, Foster, Krul - can you figure out what it is?

As I understand it Cardiff were fairly uncompromising on the fee – they wanted quite a bit more than the fee West Ham ended up paying for Randolph. I don’t think that’s an approach they can really keep this window.

They’re all good at this level, potentially affordable, and would likely fit in our wage structure?
All relegated

Most keepers can look good when they're having 25 shots flung at them in a game

Out of all of them only Ramsdale would be a good option for me, and that's purely down to his age. But he'll cost much more than Cakir or Bayindir despite the fact he's been part of a defence which has conceded 60 goals

For the amount we will have to pay I’ll be really disappointed if we have to go for Ramsdale.

Genuinely don’t think people would be suggesting him as an option if we hadn’t sold him in the first place.

I would simply because he's young and English. I think he'll have a few suitors.

You’ve interestingly picked the one that’s looked the worst at this level of the 4...
How are you comparing them? Based on what?

I would say Foster is the best but he's about 40, but the other 3 you couldn't put a fag paper between.

Ramsdale for me has looked the shakiest of them, most likely to make an error and/or let something in he should have saved. I don’t think he’d be a terrible option for us but I hope we go for someone better – though obviously Ramsdale has time to improve. I feel like I’ve seen him and Etheridge about the same amount of times at this level and I think Etheridge’s shot-stopping and command of his area is better.

Foster will make the occasional error but is otherwise excellent.

Krul I do rate, but wouldn’t want us to go anywhere near ideally as he’s particularly unlikable.

Burnley signed Nick Pope after Charlton got relegated to League One.
Bit different isn't it?
We're talking about a number 1 here, not a 3rd-choice-who-by-a-freak-injury-pile-up-gets-a-chance-in-the-first-team-and-grabs-it-with-both-hands.

I'd have no issue with any of those keepers, but not as a number 1. It's the difference between relegation and not, quite literally.
