I thought yesterday was his best game for us by a mile. In other games he's looked weak and too easy to knock off the ball but yesterday he was strong & dominant. He nearly blew it when he pulled Parkin's shirt near the end but other than that he did well. I was worried when I heard Morgan was missing but it's the best we've looked defensively for a while (apart from the first 10 minutes).

I think the loan players not caring as much is sometimes more to the older players, rather than players like Bartley who are looking to start their career. I've always been impressed with Bartley and I think hes got a very bright future ahead of him.

Centre backs are a long way from being the finished product at his age, they improve as they get older. He looks to me as if he is going to develop into some player.

When he did, he was a good yard inside the penalty box, and the ref should have blown for a penalty kick, if he was going to give anything. In fairness I thought it was a bit of six of one half a dozen of the other and not worth giving a foul at all...

(Anyone else think the standard of refs is getting worse year by year..?)

I thought he played really well, if not a little casual at times, but that's what you get from someone who at 19, possibly has a little bit of class and will probably turn out eventually to be a prem cb

I agree with most people on here that Bartley was excellent yesterday, his best performance for United so far AND man of the match for me. True, he could have blown it at the end on Parkin BUT to be fair, he shouldn't have been put in that position. PNE launched that ball from left back without any pressure from a throw in and the forwards should have been closer and tighter to make it more difficult than that.

Back to Kyle VI, yesterday was the first time I could see the class that says 'Premier League club centre back' although he remains a couple of years away. If I was Wenger, I'd be hoping for a similar situation to develop with United and Bartley as has done with Chelsea and Mancienne at Wolves. Gradual improving team, gradually improving player, promotion and find out how good he is. He set a high standard though and I would now suggest that the defence should be Calve - Bartley - Morgan - Jordan and Nos should provide cover with Lowton and Taylor/Kozluk. Bartley needs to now consistently perform at that 7/8 out of 10 level for United. One thing is certain for the lad, if he can stay in the team, he's got to improve - a season in the Championship makes a young PL centre defender IMO.

Indeedy. It's all about having the attributes to become a great centre back. Bartley needs to gain a bit more strength, but with time there should be nothing to stop his continual improvement.

I look at Bartley and think he'll be a real player in this division by April/May.

he's got a good 'mentor' in morgan too, which should be beneficial in terms of toughening him up and also a degree in intimidating the opposition forwards. morgs and bartley should be an interesting combination this season

Short-term loanees can often have the attitude of caring more about themselves than the team.

I think the knowledge that he's here for the season will be of benefit Bartley and those around him.

The double-edged sword of continuing good performances will see his transfer value increase above what we can afford.

Much like Gary Cahill, who, ironically, was speculated to be moving to Arsenal for £15+m last year.

i think it shows his worth when wenger didnt really want him to leave, i think being at the lane will only improve his game especially having to deal with some big units like parkin etc, will certainly toughen him up!
