This season has been something else, I knew we could survive and I knew we could surprise, but what we have done has surpassed all expectations.

Looking back on this season I can't help but think how our shit luck has held us back from being even better, if decisions had gone our way, if corona hadn't derailed the season, we could have been in the champions league places comfortably with the decisions against us pre corona.

Wilder and Knill have worked wonders with this team, only a few games have I been disappointed in how we have played, but when I sit and think about everything that has played out this year I can't help but be proud of this team.

It's like Wilder doesn't know how to fail, I'm gutted like a lot of people that we couldn't get Europe, but to be honest it could actually be the best thing for us. Going forwards next year then the top teams will not have much rest between the start of this and next season, we will only need to concentrate on the league and will have much more down time as the season draws on.

Our style of play demands a lot from the players and the lock down did us no favours, a small pre season with hopefully a couple of additions and no losses (hendo aside) we should be able to go one step further next season. We just need a bit more attacking quality, some additional creativity in Midfield, though I'm disappointed Freeman was injured as he looked like a threat going forwards that we needed at times.

If we can keep this team together then I have no doubt we can push on next season and go better. As much as I love Henderson, any keeper could fill in with the defence we have in front of him, it is more important we keep Egan imo. To be honest it doesn't matter who we lose unless that man is Wilder, he is our Ferguson and with him at the helm I genuinely feel anything is possible.

Let's enjoy this last game and look forwards to another season at the top table, it will be interesting to see Wilders approach for next season, will he look to survive first or will he look to Europe, the man is a serial winner, he knows how to get the best out of what he has, but he is also realistic.

The future is bright, the future is red and white

Survival has to be the first and foremost next season and every season beyond.
A lot will depend on recruitment and hope we don't spend millions just for the sake of it which I don't think we will.
Anywhere from 17th to sneaking into the top 10 aa along as theres passion and commitment we can't complain.....can we ? 🤔

Finishing where we are, eighth to tenth, gives us a realistic chance of continuing Wilders record of finishing the following season in a higher spot than the previous one.
Lets finish with a win on Sunday then look forward to next season.
UTB

Only one issue with that. I never realised how important a keeper was until we got relegated with Simmo between the sticks.

We absolutely must get a Premier League standard keeper. Tricky.
Sent shivers down my spine that name.. I agree we need a good keeper and I hope we already have one in the wings, though signing Wes would possibly mean we don't think much to Verrips.

Stopped reading at 'bad luck'.

Losers mentality.

The fact is everything was in our hands to secure at least a Europa League place but we haven't been good enough over the last few matches.

We've been the worst team in the top half since the restart.

Well no fucking shit, maybe you should bother to actually fucking read what's written silly bollocks 🙄

You can't say we haven't had bad luck but at no point did I say that was responsible for our season ending the way it did, but you would know that if you actually bothered to read what I wrote instead of assuming 🙄

Like I said, losers mentality.

Winners don't speak of luck, Wilder certainly doesn't.

The debacle at Villa didn't rob us of three points, it was just a disallowed goal.

Luck generally evens itself out. We've had our fair share. Goalkeeping howlers at Everton and palace, last minute disallowed goal for west ham, ridiculously disallowed goal for spurs. We ran out of steam it's nothing to be embarrassed about. Stop clutching at straws.

Holy shit can you tards read 🙄

I was saying that if luck had gone our way before corona we could have been comfortably in the champions league places, not that it cost us our season ffs.

Stop putting shit in my mouth I'm not saying because you can't, or won't read in one case 🙄

Have a day off, FFS man! Brother chip to Robbie. 15,000 posts and barely a good word about the club. I fully get that the world would be crap if we all thought the same, but that’s just depressing. Just a LEGIMATE goal that got disallowed! No ifs or buts. FACT. Winners don’t speak of luck? Name one winner that hasn’t had more than their fair share of luck then?

Tards? Nice. No need to put shit in your mouth it's obviously already full of it with the amount coming out. Grow up.

WTF! Luck usually evens itself out is a myth.

Fantastic season, we've done so well.

Overall, we deserve to be where we are. No higher, no lower.

No moaning about decisions or bad luck or anything. There are always things that go against you during the season, but fans so easily forget the moments that went in our favour, and there's been plenty of those as well.

One caveat is that I do think the idea that 'it always evens out in the end' is almost certainly wrong.
If you don't believe in some higher power touching the scales, as I don't, then the sheer probability of everything balancing perfectly is extremely low. It's almost certain that you will end up with some positive or negative net result terms of refereeing decisions etc.
I do think it evens out to a degree, but just not perfectly evenly.

All that said, we're so used to this stuff making some huge difference to our season in some way. This year it really didn't, we've finished about right, and not only that, a position to be incredibly proud of.

So... let's just be proud of it

Interesting. So you think that countless decisions made across hundreds of premier league matches by scores of referees both for and against every team somehow evens out to exactly 0 for everyone at the end of the season?

Do you realise how staggeringly unlikely this is.

I completely agree that no team should be blaming their position or performance on that. I agree with peterNdlovu that it's a losers mentality. But the probability of it evening out completely is so small as to be unrealistic.

If you want to instead say that it roughly evens out, then i'd be more inclined to agree.
No team should be relying on this to make or break their season. If they want to stay up, get into europe, win the title then from the start it's in their hands and it will be their responsibility if they fall short.

That's why I said generally evens itself out.

You don't understand irony do you 🙄 you assumed I'm clutching at straws for suggesting that if luck had gone our way we could have comfortably had a champions league place before lock down began.

We where playing phenomenally well and had corona not come along I have no doubt we would have continued to do so. We only have ourselves to blame for the way the season finishes but I'm not here to rip the team to shreds for what has been overall a wonderful season and has given us positives to look forwards too.

It seems unfair to slate the team too much given all the circumstances, or shall we just slate the team?

Like Man Utd 19 penalties? Like the penalty Arsenal got in the cup? Because if the boot was on the other foot and we were at Arsenal we’d have got that very same penalty decision, wouldn’t we?
I'll answer but have no idea what you're wittering on about. Man Utd got 19 penalties because generally their attackers spend much more time running at defenders in and around the box than we do. Simple enough to understand really. I dont watch all Manchester United's matches so have no idea how many were spurious decisions.

You make you’re only luck in this world, son....

Although joking apart, I do actually think there is something in that. If you spend 75% of the game in the opponents half you’re 50% more likely than your opponents to have a lucky deflection off someone’s nob end end up in the back of the net at some point in the game.

There’s so many variables in football that luck certainly plays apart but I don’t think it’s any surprise that there should be a correlation between the better teams being more fortunate.

I guess it depends whether you’re taking refereeing decisions into account though as who fucking knows what planet some of them are on at times. But as we know from this season, even that doesn’t even itself out really.

You don't understand facts do you. Feel free to slate the team, no one else has.

No of course I don't, I base my opinion on what fairies and unicorns tell me 🙄

Pray tell what facts have you enlightened me with?

Not like I have disagreed with what you have said other than your assumption of what I was saying 🙄

A goal got disallowed.

That's it.

Everybody keeps saying we were robbed of 3 points which is bollocks.

The match could have ended 10-1 or 1-10 and every other permutation you can think of.

Nobody knows or ever will know.

Just forget about it and move on.

The facts are we were shite against Newcastle, Man Utd, Leicester and Everton.

We only have ourselves to blame.

Look I know we only have ourselves to blame, I was simply making my opinion to show what a great season we have had.

Luck always plays a part in a teams season and I am well aware that it wasn't our luck that cost us but our poor play in the games you mentioned. I'm so sorry that my opinion has hurt you 🙄
