We'll only know if he's a good signing after he's played a game for us and we can then all make an objective judgment. If he doesn't shine in that first game we should really start to question Speed's ability in the transfer market as he's obviously not a great tactician given Sunday's performance.

If you didnt show 'English Grit' then Blackwell was not interested.

A mixture of technical ability & english 'Grit' is a must to unlock Championship defences.

If Gary carries on with the formation he started with at Boro it is essential to have some attacking fullbacks to allow Ward plus other to play the channels and support the central striker.

I think it's myth that this signing indicates a massive difference between the type of player that Blackwell and Speed like to sign. I heard Blackwell interviewed on Radio Sheffield and he said he was very impressed by Calve and wanted to sign him. However, he said Premiership clubs were also in for him and it was very unlikely we'd be able to compete on wages. Since then it appears Blackpool (and others?) have lost interest and the player has had to settle for us.

Either that or McCabe's purse strings have been loosened up a little now that we have an unproven but big-name manager to throw money at. Sounds familiar!
