Confess your unpopular opinions regarding SUFC

I like Chris Wilder but sometimes his modesty in interviews can annoy me. "Well this is the premier league" he says about 30 times on every post/pre match interview - still by far my favourite manager mind

That said all managers have to fake a level of humility. When they're truly in form you can't tell me managers like Klopp aren't sitting there thinking "yeah we should smash this side" and then they have to come out and make up some rubbish about how much of a threat the other side is.

When we got promoted from League One, my dad asked me which players I didn’t think would make the step up to the Championship.

I said:

“Jack O’Connell”

I feel it’s only fair to accept that this invalidates all other opinions that I have ever held, currently hold or will ever hold.

When Basham first arrived and was playing central midfield I thought he was a reckless donkey, terrible on the ball and an awful signing.

That's not an unpopular opinion, it's a fact!

His transition to a RCB and the general improvement in his overall game is remarkable.... still got a 50p piece for a head though!

Fun Blades Related Fact For You:

Ex Sheffield Striker Danny Cadamateri played for 13 different clubs over an 18 season career, playing 349 games and scoring 37 goals.

That means he averaged a goal every 9 and a half games, or 2 goals per season on average over his whole career.

At what point did someone go "We're not scoring enough goals and need a new striker to solve our problems. I know Danny Cadamateri is the man for the job."

Anyone brave enough to admit that they thought he was good?

That signing was made in 2004-5. A Warnock masterclass in how not to build a forward line.

On BBC live text after scoring against Chelsea Ollie McBurnie was described as looking 'as little like a footballer as you could imagine'.
A high accolade indeed considering Basham and Lundstram are in the same team

I seem to recall that being a season where Warnock was trying to build a team from either buying players born in Yorkshire or from other Yorkshire teams.

A local team for local people, there's nothing for you here.

First go(tin hat goes on)

  • Allez Allez Allez wouldnt have caught on if it was our fans who started it
  • Its pathetic we sing about Norwich
  • We try to over-complicate songs and add too much
  • Hate we call them "Wendy"
  • Our fans are only loyal when it suits them, we talk about Lg1 years and our support but only 21k for a Play off semi was a disgrace despite how the season ended
  • Seems to be common but i thought Hammond and Woolford would be good signings
  • I think a lot of pundits were right to doubt us this season and think we jumped on the bandwagon to be offended by everything even if its valid(Steve Nicol exempt)
  • Sacking Blackwell was one of biggest mistakes we made(in the short term)
  • Neil Collins was decent and had a good footballing brain.
  • I liked the Gold Midas games kit
Apologies, probably a few more but i didnt want to be accused of being a "wendy"!

No Wednesday man could come up with a forum name like Uhlenbeek.
It'd be like one of us posing as a Wednesday fan calling himself RegiBlinkersleftknee or something.
You raise a few good points.
Collins loves United even now.👍😅

Neil Collins was decent and had a good footballing brain.
I agree with this but didn't it come out the reason he kept getting dropped was he couldn't follow the manager's orders?
So basically a decent player but not a team player.

I cringe every time I hear that Norwich line.

We have had terrible song writing talent amongst our fan base for a while now.

I thought it was decent given our shitty end to the season, the fact that season tickets weren't valid for the game, and holiday season was upon us.

Didn't Sunderland get a similar crowd recently in a PO semi?

I think the club may have ballsed-up an enormous revenue stream, just when (COVID19) we could do with the money.

Our TV exposure has increased massively this year, so have subscribers to our social media platforms.

You would think it logical that this will have led to an increase in our fan base, especially abroad.

And then we bring out a rather rubbish kit…. Meh…..

Nobody would have bought it anyway, even if it was the best kit we'd ever had. They'd have still moaned, but about it costing £55 and ordered a knockoff from DHGate instead - one of the perks of being in the Premier League, people in China know who you are and will make a flammable replica to sell for 12 quid.

I reckon our kit sales last season must've taken a right whack, despite having a nicer kit than the 18/19 season.

I quite like Leeds.

Big northern club with a proper old fashioned but impressive stadium and passionate fans. Not as pretentious as some of the other big clubs whose fans could never cope with multiple relegations like the leeds supporters have.

The 'dirty leeds' era and occasions when they would take our best players are before my time, so my memories of them are mostly from the early 2000s to present day, which essentially consists of them falling from Champs league SF into League 1/Championship and us beating them on a fairly regular basis, be it in the league, cups or to promotion, which has been quite satisfying.

I would be quite happy for them to become our de facto Yorkshire rivals whilst Wednesday slowly fall down the leagues into obscurity, leaving us to enjoy some fiery derbies between the two of us.
