Mythical Lack Of Recognition

Can someone please explain to me where this mythical lack of recognition has come from?

Even this late in the season I still read posts on here and Facebook etc claiming that we don't get any recognition or enough recognition, or when players get picked for a team of the week it's met with "about time."

Alan Shearer has picked Blades players and Wilder for his team of the week throughout the season. Basham, Fleck and Henderson have been picked a number of times along with other players.

Garth Crooks has also picked Blades players and has changed his tune, admitting he was wrong and praising us.

Mark Lawrenson has admitted that he predicts us to lose for banter. He predicted us to lose so many at the start of the season and was wrong that he nows puts us down to lose so that one day he'll be right with his prediction.

Pundits, other managers and fans of other clubs have sung our praises all season. Roy's Views often back this up with before and after match comments. Look at Mourinho's reaction at the Lane when he approached Wilder mid interview. Even egotistical Mourinho stopped him to say well done.

Yes, we're often near the end on MOTD, but in fairness, our matches aren't known for goal mouth action. We stop teams from having chances but don't create many ourselves. The general play is entertaining but there's little action for neutrals to enjoy where it counts. So it's understandable that we're not on first. Even against Chelsea we were defensively magnificent but there were few chances on goal by either team. It wasn't a Premier League classic by any means.

Even pundits analysing matches comment on what we did right rather than what opponents did wrong and sing our praises for how hard the team work, how well organised they are and how difficult we've made ourselves to beat.

I genuinely don't know where this apparent lack of recognition is coming from as it's utter bullshit. Why focus on the rare negative and be blind to the constant positive?

Sheffield United have had praise from start to finish. Just enjoy it.

We've been gushed over this season more than any other team in the Premier League.

At the start of the season there was definitely some ignorant punditry out there.

Predicting us to be relegated was fair game, most non-mega-rich clubs promoted from the championship are, it's nothing personal. However the reasons for doing so were often ridiculous, such as the idea that Jags and Sharp would be our key players.

The more thoughtful commentors could see that we had something about us, and analysed the picture more than just 'Villa are a big name and have spent 140m, they'll stop up. Blades? Physical, long ball team right? Down.'

As the season has gone on we've received way more praise, particularly from those actually within the game such as Mourinho.

There's still a few ignorant voices out there, Garth Crooks, ahem, but for the most part I think we're appreciated and understood well enough. Some fans overreact to any slight negative comment as if the footballing world was against us. It isn't. The lesson is just to ignore or laugh at the uninformed comments and enjoy our success.

I've already invested money in Kleenex shares. I'm expecting to make a huge profit when their sales go through the roof from the BBC jizzing themselves over their return to the top flight.

What gets me about it is all this drooling they’ve done over us since we came up is only because not one of them had watched us before this season. Other than a certain few, hardly any pundits had any idea what we were about, how we played or the reasoning behind us keeping largely the same group when we came up.

All the information that could have made them look really clever was available to them while they were all tipping us to finish bottom with record low points totals.

So yes, they are giving us plenty of praise now but they really should not have been surprised.

We've had praise throughout the season, however, we are continually written off.

"The Race For CL" is the current hot topic. When it's displayed on websites, TVs or in papers, it goes down to Wolves. Never shows us...

Has anybody seen the fixtures!? Yes, it is highly unlikely that we can finish 4th, but it's still mathematically possible.
