So what about next season?

I just want to see the natural progression of our system and tactics with ever improving components ( players ) think we have a real core of young talent that will blossom over the next few years and I'm really looking forward to seeing them.develop alongside whoever else we bring in

If I was a player who loved playing football i'd want to play for wilder
It’s a good shout - be nice if we could tweak our system and adopt an Atalanta style approach with a No 10 and two forwards. With a few quality additions, we might drop the flatter midfield three in favour of a less cautious approach.
That’s no criticism of this season’s approach though don’t get me wrong - it’s worked a treat.

Chris will have a plan, but that is exactly what we'll do when it comes down to game time.
Don't get me wrong, I'm as confident and as positive as the next man, but considering we don't know when next season will start or how badly the transfer market is affected etc etc, we have to be cautious.

I'm not worried about going down anyway. Not at all.

If we can stay out of the relegation battle all season like we have this it will be a success. Anything else is a bonus.

How much we going to invest is the first clue. Another £60m in the window should see us improve and challenge top 6 again.

Anything above 17th. Anything else people need to reign themselves in.
Why? We're a very good side. Couple in, couple out up front to add an extra goal threat and there's no reason not to be positive.

If we finished 17th this season and had a relegation scrap then yes. But why would we fall so heavily next season with what we have done this? We aren't Huddersfield that nicked it first season, why can't we progress or at least hold our own in the top 10?

Only way I would agree with you is if Wilder left us and I doubt that will happen.

Defence is sound, providing we can get Henderson back. Midfield is sound. For me, we have to blow most of what we get in bonus money (I’m sure the board will have budgeted for a 17th place finis?) on one/two good forwards. £2m per place, plus dare I say it, europa league money as well? The biggest thing we lack is pace, all over the pitch.

When Burnley qualified for the Europa league the Thurs / Sunday schedule & travel on a small squad nearly got them relegated .
A successful club is built over time so I suppose the pragmatic answer would be make sure we stay in the division as priority one.
Let’s enjoy this wonderful season but keep on feet on the floor .. UTB

They only played 6 games in the pre qualifiers and we're out of it by the end of August.

Being shite almost got them relegated, and Joe Hart letting more goals in in 19 games than we have all season so far.

If the CWAK trend continues we should be on for runners up next year 😲
Realistically though, with the right kind of signings in the transfer window, what do we think our chances might be next season.
For the purist posters, I know it's impossible to predict until we know who signs who, who comes up etc, but opinions can still be shared based on this season's achievement so far.
For me, I'd be hoping for top 10 again, with a realistic hope that we could make the top 6. Top 4? Kinell, my arse is tweaking just at the thought of it.
I can't believe I just typed that, but such is the Wilder machine that I can dare to believe.
After Villa, Newcastle and Manure, I allowed myself to consider whether the bubble had burst.
Soz CWAK. I should have known better.
So what's it to be next season? A slip in fortunes, more of the same, or better still?
Under Wilder, we have finished every season in a higher position than we finished the previous one. That‘s got to change some time but if we could just have another one where we finish higher than this season I’ll be a happy man.

How much do you earn per final place in the table, anyone know?

Can I have another wish? To be the team who relegate leeds at Elland Road, a bit like what Wigan did to us except that we‘re not in a relegation scrap.

I’d be really dissapointed if we‘re involved in relegation. It would mean we‘ve gone backwards in a big way.

Everyone would be disappointed but that's a possibility whether people want to accept it or not. The squad needs improving and we need to continually keep looking forward, the moment we don't and think our squad is good enough we'll be sucked right into the relegation mix.

Very hard to say at this stage. Normally teams who do not score goals get relegated, we have bucked that trend, and then some, by being great at not conceding.

Even If we have the same backline next season I cannot see us conceding so few goals, no logic for saying this but just think it will be a tough act to repeat.

Not knocking our strikers but we need to find a way to score more goals. If it is with the current crop then we need to create more, but this may make us more open to conceding more.

If we splash the cash on a new striker (and how can we afford a proven 15 goal a season plus Premier League striker in fee or wages)...then the same applies, without consistent service you will not score.

Whilst I remain positive I do think we will do fantastically well to have another top 10 finish next season.

A really good go in the FA Cup would be nice!
We’ve just scored 3 against Tottenham and 3 against Chelsea....progress?

Definitely. It was not meant in a negative way but taking the goals for for the whole season we will likely need to score more goals next season to finish top 10.

I personally think McBurnie will score goals with the right level of service...or do not see us upgrading on him for the likely fee and wages we can afford to fund.

An awful lot went right this season, and seemingly players becomes exponentially more expensive the closer you get to the top.

I’d be happy to see mid table (season more or less over by April), and the full potential of our new signings last year realised - which does seem to be happening now tbf!

Over achievement along with expectation is what cripples sides like Huddersfield to go down. We have a 20th budget and probably won’t spend a lot in the toughest league in the world.

Say Villa stay up change manager and they spend another 150m (on good players) and we spend £0. You then have fans expectations that we finished ahead of AV last season so we should this season. We are a little fish in a huge pond with sharks.

So what's it to be next season? A slip in fortunes, more of the same, or better still?

I'm hoping we will be even stronger although I'd be happy with another season similar to this one - wouldn't we all?

I think the level of competition amongst the big clubs will be even stronger. For example, I think Man United are finally starting to emerge from a period of a few years when the squad needed rejuvenating. In recent games they've looked very very good to me and I think if they'd started the season playing like that they'd have been at the top of the league with Liverpool. So I'm expecting them to be stronger next season.

I think Mourinho will get Spurs firing next season. He's a good manager who is used to winning things so I fully expect him to make them a better outfit next season.

I can't see anything other than another good season for Liverpool and moneybags Man City either. Chelsea I'm not so sure about? I think the appointment of Lampard is a gamble and based on sentimentality rather than his ability as a manager. And I'm not convinced that Arteta is the right man to sort Arsenal out. I think he's not experienced enough to sort out that juggernaut of a club and get it winning something.

Two of the three clubs that have been relegated, Bournemouth and Norwich, were ill prepared for survival at the top level of football. That may sound a bit harsh on Bournemouth in particular, who have done really well to stay there for so long, but at the end of the day, they are a very small club punching above their weight at that level. Meanwhile, Norwich didn't spend any money on their Championship winning side, so it seems like they were just coming along for the ride? You've got to look at who is likely to replace them and I think Leeds and West Brom will provide much stiffer competition than those two did. So, the division, for me, is going to be stronger.

Then you look at our own team. It's remarkable how well we've done given that many of the players had not played at this level before and had started the journey with us way back in League 1 in some cases. However, you also look at the depth of quality in the squad - and it's lacking - and you look at the age of some players in key positions and it's not ideal. You also look at the goalkeeping situation and there's uncertainty there and it doesn't seem like we have a reliable back-up. And finally, you look at the financial situation, the need to improve off-field facilities, and the current financial climate and you wonder if Wilder will be backed with sufficient funds to reinforce the squad in key areas, which is what is needed.

On balance I think we are probably looking at a mid-table finish next season and it may take another year before we are finally in a position to get all the right pieces of the jig-saw in place to push on from where we are now.

I agree with most of that mate, though if I had to stick money on it, I'd go a smidge higher at 7th to 9th.
Also, it'll be interesting to see how Man City's season goes, bearing in mind they've already lost 9 this season.
Arsenal no, for the reasons you mentioned, Spurs are far too reliant on Son and Kane and doubt JM will sort that defence enough.
Leicester to fall away next term and Chelsea will need to recruit well to be up there again next season. I can see FL gone by Christmas.
If Wolves keep hold of NES they should be up and around top 6 again.
I don't think Liverpool will get the same magnificent start next year. There were a number of games (us included) where they somehow got results they shouldn't have. For that reason, and if they get off to a flier, I'm going for Man U for the title next year.

Assuming we were more successful then we’d be playing a lot more games hence need for a bigger squad with more depth

I agree.
Man U, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal have all been rebuilding this season and should be stronger next, so a top 6 finish seems unlikely.
All I ask and hope for is to see us playing positively and winning more games than we lose, plus at least 4 points from Leeds.
If we can progress further in the FA cup then that will be a bonus.
