Out of interest does the women’s game get much support? I mean I know that the BBC have jumped on board and during the international break 5Live had two women’s teams on instead of league one, two or the national league.

I’m sure it won’t be long before the women’s game is on radio Sheffield at the expense of Donny or Barnsley.

Not convinced that the women’s game will get the same levels of coverage in 5 years time. Purely on the basis of quality and interest. Much in the same way that the American League is nothing more than a retirement home for big names, the football is still shite no matter how you dress it up.

Money does and always will talk.

Womans football have gone all in on this and gone for the full re-package as they know that if you want to get more interest then you have to tap into the sub conscious minds of existing football supporters and a hell of a lot of them support the big boys. The big boys i.e. Man Utd and Man City also have the luxury of having premiership money washing around to fund the ladies - it's almost pocket money to them.

Totally unfair though re the Belles.

Took my 8 year old up last yeare to shirecliff and enjoyed it.

Moving games out to stocksbridge alienates the ones who live in South sheffield.

Won't be trecking up there.

Won’t be for long though.

Ive heard we’ll be moving them to Hillsborough when Chansiri moves out to a new stadium at Tinsley.

I’ve no interest whatsoever in Women’s football.

I have seen some games - not all the way through I must admit - and it’s like a diluted version of the man’s game to me. I think it’s a poor spectacle. At times it’s an absolute joke. Mind you, so is men’s football as well, but less so.

There is better football to be watched in the Sheffield Junior league on a Sunday. (A few of those teams have girls playing for them, but mostly the U11’s age groups because few girls can cope with the strength and physicality of the game v boys, beyond that).

It’s a bit like the difference between women’s and men’s tennis, only much more so, because strength, power, aggression, is even more important in football.

Having said that, I think it’s great that our club has a women’s team and I’ll be pleased for them if they do well. But it doesn’t even have the same level of interest for me as our men’s development squad.

That’s why I, and thousands of others, don’t go to watch it.

Surprise surprise but the Beeb are being uber PC by giving women's football a higher profile than its support merits. Fair enough I suppose to help get it going, but things well settle down.

I can see hundreds of thousands of girls playing the game in a few years time, but I can't see attendances getting near League 1/2 levels apart from the odd big match.

Loads of people participate in fishing but that doesn't make great viewing either.

How can this be? Surely it's not a case of just because the parent club is big in the prem then it automatically entitles their womens team (no matter how bad) an automatic right to the top league at the expense of another team? Surely, and it seems only fair, that the team finishing bottom of the league should have been the one to make way for Man City, and even then it should only be if they have progressed up the leagues (just like the mens football league). What gave them the right to dictate to the Belles that they would replace them in the top league? Seems totally unfair and corrupt!

Forget about tradition, forget about the fact that without what the Belles helped to create there probably would not be the infrastructure in place to now support a women’s league, forget the fact that they are a top league team on merit, once the big clubs with money want in non of this matters. Not got a big club behind you with loads of premier league cash? Then forget it, no matter how good you are you are not deemed worthy of competing with these teams, just get told you are to be relegated after ONE game (kicked out in effect) to make room for them. Totally unjustified and I hope their appeal is successful. How FA is going to justify this is beyond me.
To quote from the article in the Daily Mail:

You cannot just bulldoze the foundations of the club that have helped build the platform for today's female footballers, some of whom are Olympians and earn an annual wage for playing the sport they love. You cannot just rip the heart out of a game to justify the ugliest of phrases in sport: 'a new franchise'. That is not progress - it's going backwards.”

So who funds the womens team ? Presumably prince and mcabe, is there any mention in the clubs annual accounts ? Are they separate or classed as playing staff ? Do they even get paid?

Ah right. Shame though. Would've been nice having two Sheffield teams in that league. Don't mind nipping up to Dronny to watch FC but Stocksbridge is a little to out of the way for me.

On Sunday Sheffield Ladies play Sunderland, who finished 7th in WSL1, but were dumped from the top flight to National League North and didn't even get a Championship place after Doncaster and Sheffield withdrew.

Man Utd not getting put straight in the top flight and Yeovil not being relegated despite not winning all season were about the only surprises of this stupid restructure. West Ham getting a spot in the top division after coming 7th in PL South is sadly more typical of the way women's football is run. The FA continually mess around with it and there's no sporting merit to the divisions teams play in. As soon as the current structure starts to bed in, they'll probably mess around with the rules again instead of just letting the game develop naturally.

Seems like an odd one that to be honest unless she wanted to go. We were doing really well, if it wasn't for the stupid 1 team up rule to protect the "big teams" in the top division, we would have been promoted this season.
