Thankfully, Wilder doesn't live in the past.

All this criticism of McBurnie, and to a lesser extent Mousset, is doing my head in. (I'm not even a 'proper' Blade).

I for one am glad that Wilder is looking to the future and also has the foresight to use his head over his heart with regards to McGoldrick, and more specifically Sharp.
You can tell from his demeanor and character that he doesn't take any rubbish and is not interested in some kind of blind delusional loyalty. In fact i've heard him in a fair few interviews banging the drum about only being interested in 'winning games of football'.

However you want to dress it up, McBurnie and Mousset (24 and 24), have been just as 'good' or just as 'out of depth' as Mcgoldrick and Sharp (32 and 34) at this level.

Only two of the above are at an age when they could actually improve and develop, they're the ones that need to be kept and worked with.

Wilder signed 3 strikers.
That tells me he doesn't expect Mcgoldrick/Sharp to be up to the level, dare I say, he's once again got something correct.

Our issue is for the money we have spent we haven’t had value for money.
Our free signings and cheap ones have been excellent. But as soon as we spend big money they go to pot.

Robinson / Mousset / McBurnie / Berge is £60 million. At the moment the current resale of those players would be a lot less than £60m that’s the issue.

You mention that CW doesn't see DMG as being upto the level but he has just signed a new contract with us? Surely if he wasnt good enough he would just be sold or released.

Booo! You don't know what you're fucking talking about knobhead! Booooooo!

He needs more than 11 players.

McGoldrick is not on high wages.

Sharp has been here 3 times and has scored more goals than Mcburnie and Moussett ever have and probably ever will, and in securing his services on those 3 occasions has in all still cost less than eather.
Mcgoldrick was free, and has been great for us, maybe not the best striker, but he is our best link up player.

Moussett and Mcburnie have cost big money, for United, an obscene amount of money, and although they might be for the future, they only show there worth occasionally.
If they put the effort into playing, that they do into showing off, they might not get as much negative attention, but it's time for them to both step up if they want to be taken seriously, at 24 they should be full of energy and enthusiasm, but you get more from Sharp and Dizdy, and for the price paid, I know which 2 I'd be starting if only from a common sense point of view.

McGoldrick is clearly 'up to the level', the goals just haven't come. Wilder has pretty much always selected him when possible.

He's certainly looked much more capable than McBurnie.

As for Sharp, his goal ratio suggests he'd be our top scorer if he'd played the amount of games he arguably should have.

Then why are you evidently so incredibly bothered?

If you're saying McGoldrick is out of his depth you've basically never watched us play.

His finishing is shit but his all round play is as good as any forward outside the very best

I feel that's the point of this Post. They will grow into the roles and hopefully will benefit us going forward.
CW needs to buy 2 bags of Miracle Grow from some garden centre and stand them both in one for these 2 to grow into owt.😉

But how much would a top of his career Sharp at 24 cost now? It’s all about perspective.

Exactly, but, when will Moussett and Mcburnie reach the top of their career??? And if this is it, at the price paid, I think that's where people are seeing the problem??
Hopefully they can kick on and improve massively next season.

Can't like this post more than once unfortunately!

I hope that to be the case. But Berge hasn’t shown anything that he can make it to become a £22m player. For the money spent we are looking at him to become our best player he doesn’t look like he has it in him.

Robinson a hard one but looked so off it up front but looked better at LW for WBA.

McB addS 5 goals a season everyone will accept that’s a good one.

There's plenty of angles to work off as regards the players, age, quality, be it of physical and mental.

I have a theory, maybe the coaching system was excellent for League One and Championship levels, but is falling short at the Premiership.
Have we signed players who need that extra level of coaching to become part of the Premiership level of quality?

Without knowing what level of stature (Euro Badges) the coaching staff have at SUFC, are they 'qualified' to a certain level to take the club forward?
Are the positions that require speciality coaches covered, do all the staff follow the guidelines set out by Chris Wilder, the formations, the strategies, the match tactics?

Not having a go at you personally here, but that sentence is the problem.

They 'go to pot' relative to people's expectations. We look at the price tag and expect instant, consistent success. I feel sorry for the players in this respect - why should the pressure on them to perform be any more or less juts because a club has paid more money. I don't expect twice as much from McBurnie than Mousset just because of the fees paid.

Personally I think we should stop attributing so much blame to individual players alongside their transfer fees. As fans in general we'd be better off if all fees were undisclosed and all we see is the overall spend or Profit/Loss in the accounts every year.

Put it this way, I think if we looked at the overall spend in line with, let's say, an 8th place finish, we'd be over the fucking moon. Compare that with half the teams in the bottom half who are spending just as much on fees, and much more on wages, to achieve less at the end of it.

I'm sure I'll get a load of shit for this post, but I'd be interested to see if anyone actually agrees with the thought process.

Your thought process isn't logical. What is a transfer fee if it isn't a guage of ability? Clubs pay more for better players, less for lesser players. It is perfectly reasonable for fans to link transfer fee to expected ability level.
The only thing you can say, is that we should compare transfer fees to other transfer fees paid in the PL, rather than transfer fees between our own players who have been signed in different divisions. But even that isn't simple, because some clubs have too much money and pay over the odds just because they can.

I'm not entirely sure why as fans we need to get involved in heated debates about something we have no control or influence on, such as transfer fees? Anyone ?

Moussett and Mcburnie have cost big money, for United, an obscene amount of money, and although they might be for the future, they only show there worth occasionally.

This sentence is for me the root of the problem some fans have with buying players. £18m & £10m are not obscene amounts of money for us, or anyone else in the Premier League, it is scrapping the bottom of the barrel bargain basement money, even more so for strikers. We simply cannot judge our players performances based on how much they cost & create an imaginary sliding scale of how good or bad they have been. We should be looking at it from the opposite angle, a new player coming into the team is just 1 part of 11 players, therefore the other 10 should be helping that player how to integrate, not just the coaching staff. The lack of good attacking play from us recently has shown that they are not doing much to help them, long punts up field into the channels are not conducive to our normal style of play & are next to useless in terms of helping them settle into the side. It is a huge collective effort that is required to get a new player up to speed, so to just blame the new player if he is slow to do so is missing the point in my opinion.

Your words are fanciful. At best.

They don’t actually amount to much, other than to express an opinion. You are not alone.

If you would care to dig a little deeper, you would actually find, and emphatically so, that you are simply plain vanilla wrong !!

It’s a combination of things clearly. Length of contract, ability, commercial attraction, age even nationality... and as we all know price is largely b

That’s why Messi, whilst being the best player in the world, is no longer the most valuable in the world.

It’s also why you can get a good player like Mark Duffy or David McGoldrick, or James Milner, for free...

I’m a fan big of McGoldrick. But his lack of finishing isn’t something we can live with long term.

It puts too much pressure on the other striker, and the other one is always going to be a budget striker at this level.

If we have a small budget, how do we replace his all round excellence with a similar player who also scores 10 a season?

It’s a problem, agreed. But you can bet the long term plan isn’t to maintain / aim for a striker who can’t hit a bull’s ass with a banjo.

For clarity, I’d be starting McGoldrick right now.

Harsh, he's scored goals before. And I do think he will score again.

Not a great record this year though...... 😂
