Said at the end of last season I wouldn't be renewing after the complete lack of entertainment and I've stuck by it. I'll go to some games, but if there isn't a marked improvement, then it won't be many.

Yep I didnt renew for the same reason plus Blackwell is still here.

May get to a couple of games but I really have lost of interest in football on a whole to the point I didnt even know the season is starting this weekend!

Yet despite your complete loss of interest in football you still manage to post on this forum?

Perhaps to follow this through, there needs to be another poll as to why people didn't renew, football/financial/personal reasons ?

Good point - I didn't renew due to there being too many non-Saturday 15:00 games that I can't get to with work and family committments

Had a season ticket, didn't renew.

A few reasons:
1) Couldn't really afford it and will find it harder to get to midweek matches next season. Plus, away from the country for 3 weeks in January/February so will work out cheaper to go to the matches I can go to.
2) Lost a lot of enthusiasm after last season. The Blades are still as big a part of my life as ever, but there's nowhere near the same amount of excitement of going to a match as there was in the past.

First time I've not had an ST since 1976.

Here's hoping Hoofy's gone by the time the half-season ones go on sale.

If we're challenging come Xmas, plenty will get half-season tickets regardless I suspect. Looking at the fixtures, most of the more attractive home games are in the 2nd half of the season anyway.

You may well be right. However, as there was no such thing as an attractive home fixture last season, I won't be fooled again.

Frechy, can I make a suggestion? When the poll closes, how about e-mailing (or maybe setting up another poll) to see why fans chose not to renew? I know that some of the 30 (so far) have given reasons, but not all.

I'm interested in the breakdown of people pissed off (i.e. over management and baord issues) with the club and people who stopped due to external circumstances (recession, famility, work, etc).

I still don't see why this is not a representative sample of Blades fans. To me I can't see a convicing argument as to why these sampe doesn't represent the entire population. Therefore it will be interested to use for analysis when season ticket sales are announced. It could put an end to the debate going on in some other threads. Regardless it ould be interesting to see why season ticket numbers have dropped (we know they have, but not by how much).

The loss of season ticket sales revenue is obvosuly of a big concern for the club. I am genuinly interested in how much of it is down to circumstances the club can control (i.e. Blackwell and prices) and how much they can't (recession, etc).

Ok Ollessandro. I voted and didn't comment as to why. Myself and my other half didn't renew for the first time in ten years. We're not tied at the hip so it wouldn't have bothered me if she still renewed but she was just as depressed about the style of football we were watching every other week. It wasn't an easy decision to make but I couldn't stand watching that absolute aimless garbage. Every game was a carbon copy of the last and I can't see it changing until Blackwell goes. I'll be straight back once I can see things have changed for the better. No doubt some people will say you should go through thick and thin. Well, like many I've been going since the dark days of relegation to the old 4th division. Maybe it's my age (late 30s) but I've finally run out of patience and I'm really looking forward to a season off! I can't believe I just said that but that's how bad things have got. I certainly don't want the Blades to do badly to justify my not going.

Not voted yet, although I'm serious considering having two for the next season as I've paid on the door for the past 2-3 years thinking I wouldn't get to enough games and only missed a handful.

However now its come down to it I'm wondering again if to get one because (and you'll love this Ollie) the daughter doesn't think she wants to go every week because the football is crap. Apparently if we passed it about more and created more chances she'd definitely want to go more often. Out of the mouths of babes eh? :)

I and my son have not renewed. Am currently out of work and a 400 mile round trip each home game costs - really a question of priorities in life.

Would definitely have renewed if still living in or around Sheffield.

The standard of football has been poor, which doesn't help, but will still make a game a month and the away games in the south west/wales/south coast. A season ticket just will not be fully used.

I still don't see why this is not a representative sample of Blades fans.

As it stands, 25% of the respondees on here haven't renewed, so if we base it on, say, 19,000 last season that would give us around 14,250 so I guess it depends whether you believe Len or Bob !

I would suggest though that the older and younger fans aren't the type to post on message boards and they're more likelier to have renewed than not so I'd be inclined to say that the 25% probably leans to the pessimistic side.

I'll set up another poll this afternoon.

I agree in some respects that this sample should be seen as being representative of the whole. The figures certainly back Len's assumption of a 25% drop in season ticket holders from 18k to 14k. I'm hoping that will have a positive impact on the atmosphere, one thing that really got to me last season was the moaning and groaning and anti-support around me I''m hoping they are in the 25%!

I can fully understand peolple that haven't renewed for work/financial/personal reasons. I'm a born again season ticket holder I started again 5 seasons ago after 12 seasons without one prior to that I went home and away. Marriage, mortgaage and young family meant my priorities changed. Saturday afternoons are about more than football for me though, it's a chance to meet family and friends in The Standard, I go with my Dad and youngest son having all three of us out together is great. The game is the meat in the sandwich as we then have a journey home either in silence if things have gone bad or joyous if it went well.

Managers and styles of play will come and go but us fans will be there come what may.

I've renewed but out of a group of 7 season ticket holders from last season, 2 haven't.

***eyes open goal and shapes to shoot***

Is that because they're sat next to you? ;)

Sadly not. Just fed up with crap football, no connection with the players on the pitch, disillusioned with selling the young players and loss of confidence in our owner.
Not even the prospect of regular beer could keep them on board.

Good post, as much about the craic and the catch up for me as well. That said I work reasonably long hours and have my own business as well - don't make night matches at all and might have to miss some Saturdays this time around. I had to think about renewing.

Might start venturing down on the train next season, the drives a bugger when I've been pie-eyed and chasing tail along Greek Street all Friday evening. :)

>when I've been pie-eyed and chasing tail
chasing your tail?.. surely you'd be going round on the spot :-)
not renewing is my little protest.. sad huh?.. thing is (call me a bit weird) but after all these years i don't expect us to win owt' .. so i'm not bothered about success.. i do like to see a good match though (seeing as i sit on my own.. no friends .. sob) and have a team i can be proud of.. last year was almost embarassing at times.. i've not had a season ticket before but ended up paying more.. cos i ended up going to most of them anyway.. i'm going to see how it goes.. may go for half season thing.. i'm a bit brassed off with football in general if i'm honest.. the thought of such people earning such ridiculous sums is a bit galling

I couldv'e written that almost word for word (I'd have used more capital letters though) :)

And now beer prices are going up because of the Russian wheat harvest. The horror...

But aside from that... You could tell your two defecting buddies that we'll not have any kids to sell and the squad won't be half full of fly-by-nighters anymore. That's largely the truth. :)

Weel my real reason for not going this season is down to not having the money for a student season ticket. I'll be in my teaching placement this year so dont have time for the tuesday night matches or the time to get a part time job to pay for the saturday matches!

I'm quite loking forward to a season off to be honest! Fully intending on seeing a few Steelers games this year!

I reckon there's an outside chance of half season tickets if we're bombing along at Xmas but just can't see that.
I think there's a general disillusionment with football at the moment. Cliche it might be but I think fans are genuinely fed up with it only being about money - and nearly all that going to players who simply aren't worth it.
Then you see what's happening at Portsmouth and even at S6 with their pisstaking over paying tax and you think do I really want to support this shambles.

Never crossed my mind not to and never will as long as I am physically able .I think its because its also a social thing for me and the lads I go with and its not all about the game ,although thats a big part .
Beers before and after will always make the game seem better ,or worse ,and the banter and laughs it generates are worth the 400+ it costs me .
I guess if you are someone who just turns up and watches the game and then shoots off home after some of the gaames would be a bit dire .

Also not going means DIY and Asda with our lass ,feck that role on death if thats all there is to it. :>)
