The problem with a big price tag is there has to be some pressure on a manager to play the player to justify the outlay, especially if they are the most expensive in a clubs history, and one from another country and not the usual British based purchase

Whenever he found himself in the middle of the pitch he was intercepting and looking to play the ball forward quickly.
Team completely collapsed when he went off, he has to play central!

With Norwood also having a shocker, it was the perfect opportunity to move Berge into the middle.

He wasn't great today, but then again nobody came out with any credit.

Our passing was poor because there was so little movement.

I'm I missing something 20 million........Really football......gone mad for that I need a player who can dominate who puts his stamp on a game who suggested and signed him 20 million.......REALLY are you watching TC.

It’s not 1975 anymore, you have to pay £20m for a player of Berge’s quality.

He traditionally puts ‘his stamp’ on the game when he plays in his preferred position.

Who suggested him? Most probably most scouts of any decent European teams - it wasn’t just little old Sheffield United who were in for Berge.

We have defenders completely missing a cross on a billiard surface of a pitch what can you say.......just not good enough

Maybe keep your money in your pocket is better than buying a average player which is what he is 1970 or 2020 a player is a player this game hasn't changed pass forward and create its a lot easier pass square and back

You said Berges quality I bet you'd never herd of him...maybe it would be better getting in better coaches into the academy system not part time coaches but ex players who know what it takes to become a player and start producing players give ex players a living wage look from the bottom up not top down...for instance why hasn't the likes of Keith Edwards coached the forwards......please don't tell me scoring goals has changed

Yeah sure I’d never heard of him - he’s only been playing in the Champions League and impressing against Liverpool earlier this season.

Bit of a weird accusation to make to be honest.

Yes the coaches have done such a terrible job in taking us from League One to being a few points away from a Champions League spot - sack the lot of them and replace them with Keith Edwards.

They’ve only produced players like Jagielka, Walker, Calvert-Lewin, Maguire and Billy Sharp - useless.

I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make about the academy - we signed Berge from Genk so our academy coaches haven’t had any input in his development.

CB pairing of Robinson and Basham wasn't great tbh when egan went. Plus Berge is a cdm, can't expecting to play a completely different role and expect him to be great after a few games

I didn't say replace anyone Chris and his coaching staff have done an unbelievable job open your eyes look at what's coming through I said academy do you relieise how much this costs....... have proper coaches the ones that have walked the walk and produce players....this is the way forward as for Jagiielka Walker Calvert-Lewis Maguire how many are playing for us and how long ago who's coming through next........ name them

Just because someone has ‘walked the walk’ and been a professional footballer, doesn’t mean they will be a great coach.

Of the ones named, of course they aren’t playing for us any more - but guess what? We sold them for money - money which keeps our academy running, because we realise that this costs money...

I’m not an expert on our current academy players - I could talk about Norrington-Davies, Reagan Slater, Tyler Smith etc but in truth I don’t know much about them, I believe that they probably aren’t close to the first team but don’t forget we’re 7th in the premier league - it’s a lot more difficult for an academy player to get into the side or even reach premier league quality.

You don't need to buy this kind of player if your producing.....other wise what's the point of an academy

It was a toss up between Berge and Norwood for the most inept performance of the season.
In an attacking sense we are so very predictable,we’ve become one trick ponies with Zero creativity the result is ’goal drought’.
If we had Deane and Agana in their pomp up front for us we still woud’nt score because there’s no service to the strikers.

I understand that and I know we all want the same thing but coaching isn't rocket science I made Keith an example basic movement today was poor can you as a young player, what it would be like as a young forward to be coached by Keith Edwards or Brian Deane

If we had Deane and Agana upfront right now we would score far more goals. Power/Pace/Guile/Strength. They would create for each other.

And you think Keith Edwards is the answer?
No not at all.......Chris knows what he's doing....... but look to the future....up front our movement was poor Chris will know this I'm not criticizing this I know and looking to the future would I like if I was a young forward to be coached by Keith or Brain Deane of course I would........ who's coaching them now I know Jack Lester but who else and how many are coming through

To produce the needed quality is neigh on impossible. We're talking an academy as good if not better than the likes of Ajax. Simply not gonna happen.

Whats the difference between a Dutch player at 14 and our player nothing but coaching Ajax put a lot of money into the coaching system coach our players the English way pace and power when ever our teams go over and play these Countries at 14 we beat them when was it that a Dutch team won a Champions league

Not without the ball they woud’nt.

How many times did Deane and Agana have to chase down long balls and make something happen? Zillions. McBurnie jogs, then jogs some more then when he gets a touch either passes it backwards or gives the ball away.

Correct - for the ones that saw it we were the master of channel football.
